  1. All that important is to get the biggest cage possible I bought Tycos cage for 100. from a local rescue they said allot of their bird are in foster homes and the cage was just to big to move around from place to place The best part is the money goes back into the rescue to help other birds. The cage is like brand new. The only thing I don't like is the fact that its white so I'm continously cleaning it if it gets any poop or food on it it looks so bad.
  2. that is a good artical i'm sure it would help lots of new bird owners with their birds
  3. They really do have some great toys I could spend thousands of dollars in no time. B) :pinch:
  4. Last night I was watching some utube videos of baby bird and the little bird wher chirping and and making all kinds of noises. Shady heard the babys and had almost climbed completely out of the box S/he's in Its a good thing I noticed because s/he might have hurt himself if s/he made it out and fell onto the floor. Now I'm a bit worried do you think I should put him in a cage now S/he has enough feathers to stay warm and I keep my house at about 72to75 degrees all the time. Shady hasn't tried todo that again I think s/he just heard the babies chirping on utube and want real badly to see them s/he is a very curiious baby.
  5. cute story Tyco has a stuffed dino that has a string that you pull and the dino vibrates and laughs She isn't bug enoughto pill the sting all the way out so she can never get it to work. One day I was watching hrt play with it and she really was trying hard to pull the string. what she did was put the toy on top of her cage with the string going through the bars and then she went into her cage and pulled the string using the bars of the cage as leverage. I was so amazed that she figured that out all by herself. They trully are little smarty pants:laugh:
  6. I agree that it would be a 1 in a million chance to get your bird back that way but you never know and its worth it. your bird may be that 1 in a million. Why dont you try singing the numbers to her thats how I taught my kids their addresses and phone number when they where young,. if it has a rythum she may learn it easier
  7. welcome to the family I have a 6year old CAG and a 6 week old Cag I am hand feeding my baby also. I also have a severe Macaw, Yellow crowned Amazon and a few other birds as well. I would love to see some pics when you get a chance. I'd also like to here how you actually got shaggy as soon as he hatched that is very rare. Did something happen to make the baby get pulled from the nest at such a young age
  8. Please keep us up to date on your new baby I would love to see some more pics of her. As for loading pics onto the thread all you have to do is open an account at www.photobucket.com download tou pictures there and then copy and paste the img code into your post and your picture will show up.
  9. What a good job you did feeding your baby I was useing the shringe with my baby but I switch over to the paper cup method I like it better and baby seems to take the formula better that way also. I don't know if you have ever heard of it before but its a really easy way to feed I just use 3 paper cups inside each other and then squeeze the cups into a v shape and the pour the food into baby's mouth its allot like spoon feeding but faster and less messy and the shape of the cup is more like a mama birds beak.
  10. Thats great she sure gobbles it down yum yum Such a cute video I'll have to try oatmeal and bananas for my fids they don't like Bananas in their natural form either but they love banana chips so they would like it mixed with oatmeal good idea.thanx
  11. Thats so cute good job to both of you. My Severe say please. Thankyou and you welcome at the appropriate time its so cute I didn't teach him it but I love that he knows how. I Think I'll try to teach Tyco and Shady how to say please and thankyou also. I must say you are doing an awesome job at raising your Grey and she is just beautiful
  12. I've watch other peoples babys grow on the site. But I didn't really realise until I got Shady how fast they really grow. I got my Cockateil at 3 weeks old and he was weaned at 51/2 6 weeks old and he grew really quickly but it was a few years ago. and bigger birds take longer to wean so I guess I thought they wouldn't grow so quickly. I bet Shady has doubled in size since I got him/her. I had him in a small box and he/she looked so little init when I first brought Shady home and today I had to put him/her into a lot bigger box just because s/he didn't have any room hardly to move anymore It will be a week tomorow since I got him/her and I'm awe struck its like I can almost watch him grow while I sitting with him like when a camera is speeding up the growth of a flower only I can watch it in real life.
  13. I did the same thing when I bought my GCC I live in British columbia and she lived in Alberta. What made it worse is that there was a cold snap when the baby was weaned and I had to wait for 14 more days for the weather to warm up enough for her to ship the Bird. I though I was going to go crazy waiting for that bird I thought I was going to have to wait until spring thaw in order for it to be warm enough in Alberta for her to send me my bird. Everything worked out fine and my baby was so wonderful he could say step up already when I got him:laugh: I'm sure thats why allot of breeders don't ship their birds because the owners can't visit and the drive the breeders around the bend with call and emails and pictures. you will have your baby soon don't worry so much.
  14. It sounds to me like your going to have a great time now the you can put a harness on your bird this summer is going to be a great adventure for the both of you I can just see you and Spencer rolling down the board walk together. What fun you are going to have
  15. I'm waiting on pins and needles to see that sweet lil bappy of yours don't forget picture as soon as you get home.
  16. With every business there are going to be people with complants and customers that aren't happy. I wouldn't worry to much as long as every looks nice and clean and the birds are well cared for. You have to go by your own experiance. THere are always people who aren't going to be happy.
  17. I thought this picture went well with the picture Judy posted of Josey Shady says look I can do that too am I big yet huh! Or Where is that other toy of mine it hasta be around here somewhere
  18. I was wondering if you think it would be okay to give Shady a bath. Shady is a very messy eater and I've been giveing him/her sponge baths after eating but I think s/he cold really use a good bath. I'm afraid s/he might get sick if I give her/him a bath like mabie get a chill. what do you all think I keep it fairly warm in the house but I don't want Shady to catch a cold.
  19. Well everyone I have decided that the baby really needs a name so since I really liked the name Shady and I haven't come up with anything I like better and when I asked baby if s/he liked it s/he responded by getting excited and kissing my nose so I took that as a yes I like it. So the baby's name is officaly Shady Grey Thank-you Chimaymomma for suggesting it.:woohoo: <br><br>Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2009/03/21 15:44
  20. Hi there welcome to our little family we all love our Greys here and other flock members as well so when you can we would love to see some pics of your bird. Do you have the other Grey's still? Its great that you gave an older bird a chance to have a good home I did the same thing with a few members of my flock.

    Feathers

When I got Gizmo my Macaw his feathers where ragged and in very poor condition and I sprayed him every day for a couple weeks and his feather where just beautiful again. Try getting him soaked right to the skin that my help allot. My Grey is molting right now and sometimes they can look a little scruffy I'm sure in no time he will be looking great again
  23. Thats great that your adopting a new Baby. Your going to just love it. Do be carful about taking your bird to some places like bird marts because alot of bird illnesses are quite contagous and you wouldn't want your bird exposed to other birds just in case. Its a very good Idea to introduce your new baby to lots of different things and changes that way he won't be as fearful of new things. I have a Rescue Grey and when I got her She was afraid and untrusting of everything and everybody Now she is a very confident Grey and takes to things very quickly. I can give her a new toy in the morning and within an hour or two she will be rippig it to peices having the time of her life:laugh: I just adopted a new little baby Grey as well and I'm so looking forward to raising this baby to be a confident social loving bird that all birds should be. Please read the information on this site there are allot of very experianced Grey owners here that can help you in just about any problem that should arise. welcome to our family Pull up a perch and make yourself at home. How long will it be til you get your new bird.
  24. Sounds like you had a great first day and your baby loves you already. I know just how you feel about leaving her to go to work. I hate leaving my baby even for a second. I guess we all have to make a living don't we. Your baby is so cute don't you just love those baby dark eyes they just make me want to pick them up and squeeze them and kiss them all over.
  25. Thats what I want to do also. So you can look back and say oh yea he spoke his first words on such and such a day or our first Dr. visit the day you brought him home all that stuff needs to be documented so you don't forget and when He grows up you can show him all the silly things he did as a baby
