I just love the little greencheeked devils. I got my Little green sprout as a baby and I must say he is the sweetest most social funniest little clown. I haven't seen one person that has met Sprout that hasn't wanted to take him home with them. He has a way about him that just captures peoples hearts. My older daughter is moving out at the end of this month and has been begging me to let he take Sprout with her. Her and Sprout are very close. She also loves Tyco and Tyco loves her when I pass she is going to take her I'm sure she would love to have her now but there is no way I would part with her. I really love my little Sprout as well but I did tell her I would think about letting her take him she does love him so much.

I also am looking forward to hearing what the humane sociaty has to say. I know a breeder that. Lives close to me. To me its more Like a bird mill its very dirty and the poop is cakes on all the cages none of the cages have perches so the birds have to hang onto the side of the cages and in some of cages there is so many bird in tiny cages I don't know how they all fit. I call the Spca on her and nothing much happened except that she had to make sure that all the cages had at Least 1 perch so that the birds could rest. I was so upset its like birds are on the bottom of the list when it comes to haveing decent living conditions. If it was cats or dogs instead of birds she would have been closed down in a second.

I agree even though Tyco was rescued I knew right away she was the bird for me. she would pace back and forth and strech her neck towards me she let me kiss her on the beak and rub her beak and that was more than she let anyone do. Maybe she scenced that I was going to take her out of the hell hole she was living in I don't know I like to think that it was love at first sight:laugh:

I just love Einstein she is juat to cute. Tyco also love to watch Einstein videos on you tube she watches so intently. She still hasn't learned anything though

There is nothing I hate worse than those bad words. Fergie my YCA lived in a house for her first 4 years where the people fought allot and the language that bird knows would make a sailor cringe. I've had her for 8 yrs and you would think in that time she would have stopped. But oh no if I raise my voice to yell at my daughter for something thats all it takes and Fergie start screaming obsenitys. Mabie when my daughter grows up and leaves home we may never have to hear her say those words anymore. When I first got her it was kind of funny but after 8 years of it its definatly not funny anymore.

When I uncover Tyco in the morning instead of her saying goodmorning to me she says WOO very loud. She loves to tell the dogs NO BARKING go lay down. she also presses her beak right against my lips for a kiss and makes a kissy noise. I think my favorite thing tan she does is when she is playing with her stuffed dino it has a string that you pull and it shakes and laughs. well she does the very same thing the toy does when she pulls the string its so funny to watch her vibrate her entire body and laugh at the same time.

You and I seem to have allot in common when it coms to our birds Tyco is just starting to feel comfortable enough to step up onto my hands for a long time she would only step up onto my arm or a perch and then from the perch to my arm but its getting better all the time. I'm looking forward to your progress. and what methods work for you. It sounds like you have the patients and love that it takes to turn your sweet Grey around.

Welcome to the forum There are many of us who have also taken in Greys that where far from little angels. I rescued my Cag when she was 4 yrs old I'm her fourth and final owner. She was very abused and neglected in her last home so when she came to be she was very untrusting of humans I have had her for 1 1/2 years and have taken her from being a scared mean unhappy bird to where she is now. She is very happy confident and a real sweety. We still have a ways to go but she definatly isn't anything like the bird I brought home almost 2 years ago.

Yes I agree with Sheila if you buy a bird from her you are only anableing her to keep doing what she is doing. I bought Tyco privatley and she was the only bird he had I have no Idea how she survived for 2 years like that Its a miracal that she was healthy. The guy who had her locked her in a back room in a cockateil size cage with a heavy blanket over her cage most of the time. I don't think her cage was ever cleaned he said he hated her and she was a bird from hell that did nothing but make allot of noise and bite every chance she got. so he never gave her a chance to bite him he just locked her up and ignored her. poor baby lived like that for a very long time as far as I was concerned someone should have done the same thing to him just to show him what its like. I still to this day get so angry when I think about it so I know exactly how you feel. In Tyco's case the guy who owned her was a crack head so he wasn't in his right mind anyway.

You may be suprised but birds are very hardy and can live in those conditions for a long time and still remain very healthy. I know this to be true because I bought Tyco and she had been living in conditions exactly to what you dicribed for 2 yrs. and of course I took her to the vet before I even brought her home. She was a little low on calcium and vitiman a but other than that she was in perfect health. With any luck those birds are going to good homes quickly and do not have to live in those conditions for very long.

Judy If I ever held getting bit against my bird I would have given them all up long ago. I've been bit by the best of them and still love them to death. You can't be a bird lover without being able to take a good bite every now and then. I couldn't imagine my life without that little bundle of Grey feathers she makes me smile everyday. I think she bit me because I wasn't getting her food in her dish fast enough for her. mabie she was hungry

Tyco hasn't tried to bite me for a very long time. This morning I was giveing her her breakfast like I useually do and for absolutly no reason that I could see she crabbed hold of my baby finger and ripped my cuticul around the nail boy did that hurt and it bled for at least an hour. to say the least I told her she was a very bad bird and no bite. Ilocked her back in her cage and said see if you like being in there for awhile. I don't think it even phased her she just went on playing with her toys like so what mom you think I can't have fun even though I'm in my cage I'll show you. She is such a little brat sometimes even when she's being disaplined she shows no remorse at all. Whew birds ya just got ta luv em

I sure people have said the same thing about their Grey parrot, as well as their Amazon, macaw, or any other very intelegent bird that bitrs for no apparent reason HAHAHA

Vet visit,,,,,,,Shadow is in perfect health

Thats great news Doesn't make you feel good when your baby is healthy and happy? I know when I take my baby's in for there yearly I always worry until the vet says they are in good health. I feed my birds pellets also but I give them a variaty of fresh and cooked fruits and vegetables, nuts, egg, little lean meat(chicken, beef) and a quality seed mix I think that its a much better diet than just pellets. I always leave a bowl of pellets in they're cages at all times. I find that my birds eat thet're pellets when they are in their cages for the night. Pellets and water are the only food that is left in they're cage at that time. So if they wake up hungry and want a snack they have to eat theyre pellets. Tyco loves her pellet and eats them all the time. My other birds will only eat them if there is nothing else but they all do eat them. -
Have you ask your vet if mabie you could board him there or mabie the local bird store or breeder. Or mabie even a neighbour could come in and feed him and chat with him for 1/2 hour or so each day.<br><br>Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2009/02/19 17:07

As you know Tyco will be 6 yrs old in a few days. when She was a baby she wasn't permitted to fledge and she recieved a bad clip that caused her to barber her flight feathers until I got her and had m Vet correct the bad clip. Anyway latley she has been practicing her flying a little and flys from her cage to Fergies cage which is about 10 ft. She has never tried to fly anywhere else. Then just a few minutes ago I was putting Gizmo to bed and all of a sudden I hear the flapping of wings. I didn't really think much of it because Fergie often follows me but when I looked to see where she landed it wasn't Fergie it was Tyco I couldn't beleive my Eyes she had flown at least 80 feet mind you she was probubly only around a foot off the ground and thats why I couldn't see who it was until she landed because the china cabnet was between her and me as she flew down the hallway. I was so excited I can't beleive it still Tyco can fly Yeah Tyco. She got such praise because I was so excited for her. I hope this won't be the only time she going to try this. I'm probubly more excited about thiis than she is. I am happy for her 6 years for a bird not to know how to fly is a very long time. now that she knows she can she can start building those mustle that will help her to get the height:woohoo: :woohoo:<br><br>Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2009/02/18 07:22

You definatly have some time but you do need to line up a Avian vet. because when your baby comes home you'll want to take her/him in for a checkup to make sure everything is perfect with it. You'l also want to put the cage somewhere that your bird will be comfortable while it checks out its new surrondings you'll want a spot where it can watch what everybody is doing but not in a heavy traffic area where it going to get over whelmed because of all the activity. A nice corner where it has the security of 2 sides of the cage blocked is perfect to make him feel secure. you also may want to prepare some comfort foods for him Greys love warm mashes such as brown rice and 12bean mash or sweet potatos with some carrots and peas mashed in My Grey just love that. squash is another favorite. you can prepare these in advance and put it in Ice cube trays and thaw out one cube at a time. just a few suggestions.<br><br>Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2009/02/17 09:17

Linda I was wondering how Tanner was doing it sounds like he's turned into quite the sweetheart. Gizmo was getting really good at wanting to be on my shoulder also and then this molt started and he just doesn't want to be touched in any way.

Yep that was very cute alright I got a good chuckle out of that

Tyco has a pokadot dinosaur that is a human baby toy when you pull the cord with the large plastic leaf the toy vibrates and giggles. Tyco loves the thing so much she puts it on top of her cage with the leaf hanging through the bars and then pulls the cord over and over again. its so cute to watch because she has learned to vibrate her body like the toy and giggle. its so funny. she also has a baby sock that has a mouse on the toe with a rattle in it. she really likes that also. The stuffed dino is a toy I only allow her to play with under supervision because it is stuffed with that polyester fluff but she does love it. She learned how to pull the cord the very first time I showed her she can only pull how ever when she uses the cage as leverage and she figuered out how todo that all by herself. Its amazeing how they can figure things out.

That is so cute Tyco loves her bath also when I give her a shower I put the plug in the bathtub and Tyco will splash and dunk her head and just have a great time until she is just dripping water from every part of her body its so much fun to watch.

You could mabie wrap it with sisle rope you can use a glue gun and just tack the rope onto it.
