  1. This bird was probubly captive bred but doesn't trust due to the fact that everytime he starts to settle into a home. he get given away again. My Tyco had 4 homes within 4 years and she took a very long time to settle down and trust me. Now with lots of love and tons of patient we have a wonderful relationship. I have had her for a year and a half now and it took 7 months before she would allow any real touching. It was well worth the wait. She is the most awesome bird I wouldn't trade her for anything. It has been very rewarding to help her become a ver happy healthy confident bird that she has always mean't to be.
  2. Thats soooo funny he'll be waiting for the bird to puke on him every nite now. and when she/he doesn't he'll be whinning that she doesn't love him anymore.
  3. I have an old sweater that I wouldn't be caught dead in outside its beige and it has fake fur around the neck and sleeve. All my birds just love it so I wear it when its time to spend time with them and they can do what ever they want and I don't have to worry about them wrecking something that I like to wear. Gizmo is the only real chewer I have and your right it hurts when they get skin along with the sweater. Thank goodness it doen't happen all the time.
  4. My Fergie is like that she is just the most sweetest cuddliest bird I have ever met. It one of my most favorite things about her. Fergie is a Yellow crowned Amazon. Tyco has her moments when she like to be close and she loves scritches and pets around her ears and neck area but to actually snuggle up is not something that she is ready for at this time. Mabie when I've had her for as long as I've had Fergie she will be cuddly also. I have 2 other birds that like to snuggle also. I feel very lucky to be so loved by these wonderful little beings. {Love-00020111}
  5. I been working at trying to coax this bird for about a week and a half. Mabie he's been out there to long now and doesn't want to be a pet anymore. I just worry because he is living with lots and lots of Eagle and hawks. sometimes when you drive by there are flocks of eagles in every tree. We have so many of them there are always people out there taking pictures of all the eagles. I watched a Eagle take down a Seagull the other day. I hope that Grey finds a home before he gets killed. I will phone the bird sancuary tomorrow mabie they can do something about this.
  6. Thanks for the suggestions I have a small travel cage that I'll take with me tomorrow. I wish Tyco was harness trained I would take her with me. I could take Fergie with me she is harrness trained. do you think that would help or make things worse. I wish I knew where she/he came from. It only 5 miles to the US border as the crow flies he could very well of come up to canada from there and if thats the case his owners will never see the ads I put up. He' a very strong flyer thats for sure. I watched him fly yesterday and he was out of my sight in a couple seconds. He flew accross a open field and dissapeared
  7. There is an African Grey Congo loose near my house. I don't know who it belongs too but everyday when I am driving into town I see it either in a tree or on a telephone wire. He has lost his tail feathers somehow but I can tell they are starting to grow back I can see little red paint bush looking feathers on his rear end. He's quite a large bird and is fully flighted. I've tryed a few times to coax him down from the tree or wire but he either sits there and looks at me or fly's away. I'm worried because we have so many Eagles and Hawks around here. If you have any Ideas on how to get him to come to me I would welcome any and all advise. Ive tryed food but that isn't working. I even tryed some cheese thinking that no bird can refuse a peice of cheese. But its not working. I've put up ads at the store and gas station where I live and also put an add in the local news paper. I've had no responce so far.
  8. Gizmo is not a Hahns He is a Severe Macaw and quite a big one. He is my newest Rescue and was in very bad shape when I got him he's coming along quite nicely he's still a bit nippy but is getting better everyday. He's been negected for many years. and was cage bound.
  9. I think all birds like to hear themselves and if something is louder then them they have to compete to see if they can out do whatever it is that is makeing a louder noise then they are. I know when my dogs start barking the birds start screaming and it sounds like a zoo or I'm in a jungle. Sometimes it gets so bad I make the dogs go outside ust so the birds will quiet down. Its enough to give anyone a migrain.
  10. oh yea Judy she definatly rules the roost around here. There definatly isn't a timid bone in Tyco's body. She is so bossy when it comes to the dogs. She loves to tease them. She calls them over by name in the sweetest way she can and if they do come she will try her very hardest to give them a little nip. I guess she thinks its funny. i'm alway's warning my dog that they better move quick so they don't get bit. her favorite spot to bite them is they're ears:laugh:
  11. KOKO is beautiful. She looks very happy and very loved. The baby is cute also. Koko must be very content and happy to have actually laid eggs. How old is Koko?
  12. Thank you all for your comments. Tycos hatch day is comeing up on the 28th of February its hard to beleve that I've had her for a year and a half already. She will be 6 years old on her hatch day. Any Ideas for a special present for her would be greatly appreciated. WHAT DO YOU BUY A BIRD THAT HAS EVERYTHING???:woohoo:
  13. I haven't had to many problems with diet with Tyco. But she is a rescue. I rescued her a 1 1/2 years ago and she will be 6 years old on Feb28. She was so hungry when I got her she would eat anything I gave her. Tyco took about 7 months before she trsted me enough to allow me to touch her. she wold let me touch her beak and even allow me to kiss the top of her beak but she would not let me touch her feathers at all. Then one night she put her head down and allowed me to give her a little head scritch and its been great ever since. She also would not step up onto my hand from her cage until just resently she would step up onto a perch and from the perch I could transfer her to my hand. She only started steping directly onto my hand in the last month or so. What I'm trying to say is that African Greys are very different from other birds. it may take a long time for her to feel comfortable in her or his new home. You cannot push a Grey to hard you must do things at his pace if you want to have a good relationship with him. patients is the key with African Greys. I also have many rescue birds and by far the African Grey took the longest to come around to trusting me. We have a absolutly great relationship now but it has taken a year and a half to get there.
  14. Its been awhile since I pt any pics of Tyco on the forum so I thought I would put some on.
  15. I just love the pics of your dogs. Ialso use vinagar and water to clean my birds cages ialso have a steam cleaner that I also find helps allot with cleaning the real tough stuff. It's also good for sterilizing after you scrub the steam kills any germs or bacteria that may be left behind
  16. I have a whole flock of birds and they all have out of cage time from early morning tip bedtime as long as I'm home. Not all of them get along but I have found that each bird has picked a friend that they like to be with when they are not with me. All of them prefer one on one time with me but they also have friends within the flock. My way of thinking is that it makes for happier birds when they have other birds around. All my birds seem to tolerate each other fairly well.
  17. Ihave quite a few birds and have had lots of baby's over the years. I have found that most baby birds really need that initial love of being held and cuddled as soon as they come home. Older birds sometimes prefer to sit back and watch for a day or two but not baby's I think a baby needs the extra security after being separated from it's sibblings and the only home it's ever known. Please don't just leave him locked up and feeling deserted it could be devastating for h.
  18. Congrates on your new family member I'm glad that you have decided to give this bird a forever home. Just curious have you met Lily before and is she well taken care of and loved or is she somewhat of a rescue bird. Either way I do comend you on helping this bird to have a wonderful new home.
  19. Birds can be taught to go where you choose them to. I have toilet trained all of my birds without to much difficulty. They poop on they're playstand or cage or if they are with me I keep a peice of newspaper or paper towel close by and when they have to go they will go on the paper. It is reletivley easy to train a bird. They may have an accident once in awhile but very rarely. Birds want to please their companions and will learn to poop where they are told too.

  21. I say that your bird is definatly a male. he doesn't have the long neck of a female. So from my experiance. I say you have a male
  22. I don't know what you can do about the dogs as long as your bird keeps flying. when I first get my birds. I always give them a minor wing clip until they get used to the way my home works with the other birds and the dogs. then by the time their wings grow out. They are used to everything and so are my dogs and other birds it works really well. All my birds are fully flighted and the dogs no longer chase them when the fly. I know you don't want to clip your birds wings but a minor clip just for a little bit may help the bird and the dogs to adjust to the situation.

  24. My bird Fergie speaks in context allot. When I am getting ready to out she knows it and for the whole time she will say No don't go its not fair its just not fair. I have now Idea where she learned this but some how she ha put it together and says it every time. Talk about making me feel guilty everytime I need to go out somewhere.
  25. Its good that you have found a reliable breeder to get another bird from. I am also happy to hear that the store that you got the bird from is going to return your money. Ithink what you did for the bird as far as treating it for its infections is very comendable and says allot for your love of birds. I can't help but wonder where this poor bird is going to end up is it going to end up being passed from owner to owner and end up either locked in a cage for the rest of its life or in a rescue. I hope for its sake it finds a loving home with someone that is willing to work with it and give it unconditional love.
