1. Oh yes Tyco loves her chicken and the bones as well when she knows I'm cooking chicken for dinner. until I actually give her some she will say YUMMY CHICKEN WANT SOME, CHICKEN YUMMY FOR THE TUMMY!!:silly:   Thats my girl.
2. I'm so glad your baby is all better now they are just like human babys when their needs are all met they are happy but when the want something they cry and its up to us mommy's to figure out what they need because they can't tell us all they can do is cry. Your a good mommy for trying todo all you could to help your baby and if that means asking for advise from more experienced parront then that what you do. and thats exactly what you did good for you keep it up and you'll have the best lttle companion anybody could ever want. I'd love to see some pics of your aby when you get a chance to post some I just love those baby dark eyes that just melt your heart like butter. The are so cute.
3. I've been making Gimo come out of his cage a come with me into the other room to hang out with me and the other birds. I have a hard time getting him off his cage but once he's off he will step up no problem. except he heads straight for my shoulder. he's really good up there and doesn't bite at all but I'm at a bit of a loss of how to get him off. He will step off me on to his cage of course or any other cage for that matter but once he's back on any cage he won't step back up again. I take him into the other room with me and the step him down onto the small travel cage that I take my birds out in and I sit that cage down beside me. but when I want to take him back to his own cage he won't step up. I don'r want to scare him constantaly just because I want to move him from one room to the other. I at a loss for what to do I have a small table top perch that I would love for him to use when he's with me but he won't step down from my shoulder onto anything except a cage. help I don't know what I should do about all this I have never encoutered a bird that loves cages as much as this guy does.
4. I know just how you feel my hair is starting to go grey also. Its not going gray gracefully at all. I also have redish hair. I cover the grey every three months or so and so far there haven't been any ill effects to my birds my daughter colours her hair all the time and also puts foils in it with bleach and still no negetive occorences with mt birds just do it in another room and I'm sure you won't have any problems either.

worried sick

Don't Worry I just took Tyco in because I thought she was sick but she wasn't. I had her nails dremaled at the same time. She was a little pissed at me for a day or 2 but thats all. I thought taking her to the vet in the first place was going to really stress her out but she was as good as gold she stepped right up from my hand to the Drs. hand with out so much as thinking twice. I think she was actually enjoying her time out of the house and being with me we where out for about 4 or hours together because a had a few stops to make I took her in the different shops with me and we had a good time. she was so sweet that day. Then as soon as I get her home and back into her regular cage she didn't talk to me for 2 days. it was really quite funny how mad she was but I didn't dare laugh in front of her. MY daughter would go and talk to her and she would walk right up to her and put her head down for a scritch she only did this if I was there then if I walked up to the cage or play stand she would turn her back and walk away. It really was funny to watch her give me the cold shoulder. I had to ask her to forgive me and tell her how sorry I was for taking her out for a little bit of fun. and as soon as I apoligized she was fine again. They are just to smart for their own good. Its amazing what they understand.
6. Very cute pics looks just like my grandson was eating there he just turned 1 he makes the same mess:laugh:
7. They do make harneses just for birds if you google aviator harness for parrots you'll see what they look like they also come with a instruction cd to teach you how to harness train your bird they come in different sizes so you can buy the one thats right for your bird. There are a couple other brands on the market also one is called the feather teather and the other is a flight suit.
8. My birds love to shread paper also. Gizmos favorite toy is some shower cutain rings hooked together to make a chain and the I roll up 3 or 4 sheets of news paper and put them through the rings about 1 roll every 3rd or 4th ring he loves it and the toy last for 2 or 3 days before I have to roll up some more newspaper for him. another one my birts really like is about 20 coffee filters threades onto one of those bird fruit scewers they have a great time shreading them to peices. My Amazon likes to chew up cereal boxes thats her favorite. Just supply your bird with some of his own paper to shread and he will probubly leave the paper on the bottom of his cage alone.
9. I had my birds on the zupreem fruity maintanance pellets and they really liked it for quite a while but then I tryed to switch them to harrisons and no and a couple of my birds are okay with it. None of them dig in to it and really enjoy it though. I think that most birds like the zupreem fruity pellets and its got all the stuff that birds need to stay healthy in it. So if your birds love the fruity Zupreem I would say its an excellent choice and it will keep them getting all the nutrition they need.
10. I feed my birds harrisons also but they don't eat to much of it I know that. I also buy Katee select ithas all the dried fruits veggies and nuts in it also. I trie a new one out the last time I went to the bird store its called tropical carnival this stuff has everything you can imageine in it pasta pretzels pellets Every kind of nut and seed you could think of it says on the bag a nutrious food thats also a treat. well My birds love it Its alittle pricey but copared to the harrisons its cheap. a 5lb bag is about 27.00 but its got so much stuff in it and the birds look just awesome like I said Ive never seen Fergie look so beautiful she actualy glows.
11. Yeah I understand about wild children Gizmo still trys to grab at my hand every time I go to scritch him even though he wants it so badley I have to remind him that if he does that I'll go away then he's fine and stops trying. Ge;s so much nicer when he's not in that cage of his when he's on top of his cage he doesn't even try to grab my hand its just that darn cage he thinks he has to protect it at all costs. Some times I think I should take his cage away from him and let him just stay on the play stand. I know it wouldn't be a very nice thing to do to him but it would get him used to being out of that cage.
12. Beautiful Grey you have there. Congradulations on adopting your new baby even though he's not really a baby he's your baby. please keep us updated on everything new I'll be waiting patiently for any news you have about him
13. I don't live with my husband but I do live with my 2 daughter's one is 21 and she does play an active roll in Tyco's life Tyco is my bird and she loves me but my daughter took it upon herself to give Tyco treats and to teach Tyco different things. she taught her how to dance a certian way and how to wave so she also has a relationship with her she hasn't tryed to step Tyco up but she does give her the odd little beak rub and scritch and Tyco now realizes she is not a threat in anyway to our relationship. Tuesday my Daughter moved out for a couple months and when she came home Tyyco was very happy to see her. So it is possible for your wife to have a relationship with your bird but she is going to have to take the time an activly get involved with you Grey in time your bird will realize she is no threat and that they also can be good friends.
14. Nice pictures he's growing into a beautiful bird thanks for sharing him as he grows. It won't be to long now and you'll have him home with you for good then you and him can start the major bonding time with all the cuddles and snuggles that go with it. He looks like he's happy with you already.
15. Tyco Talks in Either of my 2 daughters voices depending on which one of them is getting my attention at the time. She usualy talks in my Youngest daughters voice because she is home allot more than my oldest daughter. I have noticed though that when she laughs she laughs exactly like me.
16. My birds are looking exceptionly pretty these days also Fergie my Amazon just went through the heaviest molt I've ever seen and her feathers are floresnt lime green now I have never seen a bird glow before but right now she is doing just that. Gizmo and Tyco also look just gorgous. Raja always has that nice smoth clean look that I just love about the ringnecks. So all are well and happy. I'm glad to hear your birds are all well happy and contented its nice that Sammy is finally settleing in and becoming one of the flock I think for older Greys it take about 7 to 9 months to finally get comfortable in a new home I know Tyco took at least 7 months to actually start trusting me and allowing me to touch her she's great know I couldn't ask for a nicer bird. Raja is still loving his pets and can't get enough if I start petting him he will not let me stop for at least a 1/2 an hour he's such a little cuddle bum. He's also very much a one person bird latley he used to be friendly to everyone but now he won't let anyone touch him except me. I guess he's growing up.
17. I definatly don't mind take over all you want I just love to hear about Tanner he's doing great. you also deserve a pat an the back he's really come along way since you've had him. Gizmo Has learned to whisper its the cutestest thing I've ever heard in my life. He says shh not to loud Ilaughed my head off the firt time he did that. They really are nice birds I just wish Gizmo wasn't so cage protective. He's getting there but very slowly. I also noticed that his legband say 12 01 which makes hiim older than I was told. I was told he was 6 years old but he's 8 yrs old this month happy hatchday Gizmo. So now I'm wondering how long he's really been locked in a cage. From his owner she told me that it was only 1 1/2 years but my friend that told me about him in the first place said it was at least 3 years mabie longer. apparently the owner tryed for a very long time to find a home for him and no one would take him so who knows what other problems I'm in store for. Oh well I'm always up for a challenge. Tyco took 7 months for her to even let me touch her. so I'm sure gizmo will come around eventually also It just might take a couple of years. when he finally does though I think he will be a very nice bird he's not mean at all even when he bites he doesn't put the pressure on its just like his way of saying I'm not comfortable with that yet so please stop. he's going to be a good bird some day.
18. Yes I have also made arrangements for Fergie and Tyco I'm still don't know about Gizmo yet but I'm sure I will by the time anything happens to me. He will go with my Youngest daughter she is only thirteen right now but when the time come she will be of age to take on the responsibility of a larger bird. My other 2 daughters are taking Fergie and Tyco
19. That 2 year old female might be a good bird for you is the pet store selling her for less because she's not a baby. I don't know how much truth there is in this statment but I've heard that female Greys prefer men to woman so she may be a good bird for you if she didn't bite you hard and steped up for you without a problem it sounds like she might like you and has even chosen you if that is the case you really can't go wrong. if she choses you she will love you forever. Tyco went crazy when she saw me she was streching toward me and paceing back and forth trying to get me to come closer I just knew she was for me. Just mabie this female bird feel the same way about you that Tyco felt for me.
20. Poor Judy Its bad enough having a cold but to have one when your going on vacation. Least she will be able to get lots of rest and relaxaion in her hotel room bed.
21. I think there still may be a good chance on him coming home to you if you reported him to all the vet offices around where you live and in any nearby towns if someone has him and they take him to the vet. you may still get him back. I will pray for his safe return. I just can imagine your grief. I would just be a basket case if I lost one of my baby's.
22. I also have to agree that once you give your Grey up that should be it. To go back and birdsit for a couple weeks when they are gone will only cause unnessesary heartache and confustion for the bird I know this has to be very hard for you and I would just hate to be in your place. To give up my birds is just not an option for me. I met a woman a couple weeks ago who is homeless and living in her car with two macaws and an african grey. She cannot find an affordable place that will take her 3 birds and she refuses to part with them. I'm afraid I would be the same way with my birds. Icouldn't part with them when times get hard they are allot of what gives me hope and keeps me trying to make life better for myself and them. I am grateful that I never have to worry about that. So as long as I am physicly able I will be keeping my birds no matter what happens.
23. He's definatly a baby with those dark baby eyes that just melt your heart. I just love baby's they are so curious and want to know what everything is. He such a cutie and it sounds like your doing an awesome job of helping him settle in. Thanks for the pics

Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2008/12/05 11:59
24. Yhats great that you are taking in a new bird I hear that senaguls are wonderful. I know this one bird that knows so many tricks. Apperently they are quite protective of their favorite human so you will have to make sure that you socialize him with the whole family so he doesn't get overly protective with one person. As for cage size I would say 5/8 bar spacing should be the highest you should go for these little guys. and Probubly minumum size should be 32"x24"X36"high With a little bigger being better.
25. I don't know about wood and coal stoves but I would think if you got a really good Aircleaner/humidifier and that your Grey is kept away from the smoke there shouldn't be to much of a problem. People have been keeping parrots for pet for a long time now and I sure even before central heating people had parrots so I'm sure it shouldn't be a huge problem. I would like to turn convert my gas fireplace into a wood burning stove one of these days. and If I thought that doing that would hurt my birds there would no way I would do it.
