I have a couple of shoulder birds and they are fine. I also have a couple birds that there is no way I allow on my shoulder. Tyco is one of them and she doesn't even try anymore she allowed on m arm and on my knee but I cannot trust her not to bite so she isn't allowed to go anywhere near my face. My Amazon is a shoulder bird. I can trust her tough she steps down when I ask her to. and she has never ever tried to bite me in any way. Thats not saying that one day she won't but I've had her for 9 years and I think anyone who can say that they haven't been bitten in the nine years they have had a bird can be pretty sure that the birds not going to bite unless there is a very good reason for it. I also let my smaller birds on my shoulder. they are fairly easy to handle. and they like to be up high rideing around on me while I doing my chores.

So your birthday is on wedensday are you going out to have some fun or are you just going to have a little party at home. How's Tanner has he decided that it safe to come out of his cage yet or is he still being a chicken instead of a Macaw. I must say even though Gizmo won't come out of his cage he really likes to interact with me while he's in there. He loves to give kisses through the bars and he tals up a storm at me he say's some really cute things like Are you happy. and he does rasberrys and says I love you he also say what are you doing and c'mere, Where ya going. He got a very large vocabulary and the cuteest voice you ever heard. when he laughs it makes everyone laugh it sounds so sweet. I really think I'm going to have to make him come out of his cage though there is no way he wants to come out on his own. Well I guess I gotta go now Fergie just flew over and landed on my shoulder she preening my face and my arm and I guess she is trying very hard to get my attention.

He loves you very much and and feeding you is his way of telling you. We would all prefer a simple word I LOVE YOU from them but to a bird throwing up for you is the ultimate complement you should thank him and tell him that you love him too. YukYuk Yuk:laugh:

I use a Bonaire F250 4 way aircleaner It works fairly well. I think any of them would do the job though. Just make sure you don't turn on the Ionizer option its very bad for your birds.

Thats crazy I've never seen a Tag with red on it before never mind that much red thats incredible It definetly would take a bit of getting used to I think I like the more traditional looking Greys myself.

Mine all love tea and coffee also. I have to guard my cup with my life almost or I'd have all seven of my birds fighting over who ges the next drink. Mabie I'll try the warm water anything so I can enjoy a cuppa tea all to myself. I often thought of getting them their own decaffinated but I don't know how good that would be for them either.

I think if you can touch his head now just to start there thats where his comfort zone is. and then once he's totally comfortable with that start going a little further with it as his comfort zone get larger do the samething with him that you did with Baxter only start where he's comfortable that seems to be the top of his head. When I first got Tyco She would only allow me to rub her beak. Then one day she put her head down and let me touch her head but only for a second . everyday that second turned to 2 seconds and then a minute and now I can sritch her head neck face everywhere but I had to do it on her terms Just start where he is and take it from there. I hope things work out I'm glad he's doing so well in every other way.

Now if I coulld just get her to talk to me again everything would be great. She's so mad at me for taking her to the vet she hasn't talk to me since I brought her home. My daughter came in to say hello to her yesterday and Tyco walked right up to her and gave her kisses and everything then I walked over and she turned her back and walked to the back of her play top. Its kind of funny how mad they get over thing. Anyway I bought her a couple of new toys yesterday as a sort of peace offering she loves the new toys so mabie she will forgive me now.

You never know she may just like the idea of haveing another bird around. I think my birds enjoy haveing each other when there's no ones home. at least they aren't at home all alone and even though none of my birds are the same species except for the 2 cockateils they are all birds and that gives them all somthing in common with each other. My birds have become a flock and if thet where out in the wild it would be the strangest looking flock out there but they all have their little friendships going and they argue and play but they don't try to hurt each other and that all I really care about. Maxi will adjust it usually takes about a month for them to get to know and accept each other try not to interfere or make a big fuss and they will soon be fine. Just remember to keep the pecking order so that Maxi realizes she is still top bird in your eyes and always will be.

Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2008/11/22 12:03

I'm so glad that Tanners Vet appointment went well. I'm going to try the same thing that your vet suggested with Tanner with Gizmo I'll give him one more week to start comming out on his own and then if I have to I'll take him out and he will have to get used to being out everyday it just silly he want to be with me but doesn't want to come out and be with me and I don't always have to time to go over to his cage to sit with him it would make it allot easier if he would come out and hang out with me where I am instead of me having to go to him all the time. I'm sure your feeling the same way.

I have a Green Cheeked Conure and he also talks very well. He definatly rules the roost in this house he keeps us all very entertained. Its nice to see that someone else enjoys and adores their little brat as much as I do.

I took Tyco to the Vet today and while i was there I met this woman. She is homeless at the moment and from what I gather has been for quite awhile. the sad part about it is she's liveing in her car with 2 Macaws and an African Grey. She was at the vet getting one of her Macaws Wings Clipped because she didn't want to lose him. she also had her African Grey in to get his nails clipped. She can't find a place that she can afford that will allow her 3 birds and she said she would rather die than give them up. I almost invited her to come and stay with me until she could find a place. I don't have the room for 3 more birds though anyway I'm sure God knows who she is and I just wanted to ask if everybody here could please include her and her birds in your prayers. Her birds are absolutly gorgous I'm sure she is doing her very best to keep them that way under the circumstances. Thanks in advance for your prayers for this woman and her birds.

He's beautiful He's going tp bring you tons of joy. Sounds like he picked you to be his new mom right from the moment he met you this is a great sign. Tyco did the same thing with me. that was just over a year ago. i couldn't pet her or step her up for awhile after I brought her home but now she is the best bird. she cuddle and loves scritches she steps up when ever i ask her too. i'm so glad I got her. I'm sure your going to feel the same way also.

I'm a vinagar and hot water girl myself I find it works very good. You don't even have to let the dried on stuff soak it just wet it down and wipe it off works great. Tycos cage is white a the poop shows really well I'd be going through a bottle of poop off a day I constantly wiping the poop off her cage. I just keep a bucket of water and vinagar beside her cage and it stays nice and white and poop free.

The Doctor said that he hasn't seen a African grey that was as big as Tyco ever she weighed in at 579 gr she usually weighs anywhere fron 575gr to 583 gr he said she is vey healthy and a good weight for her size she has lots of musule on both sides of her keel She was so good I'm so proud of her she stepped up no problem for the vet. he said that because she is learning to fly that he thinks she may have hurt herself and probubly is bruised and thats why her wings are drooping. That never even crossed my mind but since she wasn't permited to fledge as a baby and she's just starting to fly so thats very likely. I'm glad I took her anyway I was so worried and would have kept worrying he said that once they drop their wings like that it usually take about a week for them to lift them up again he said just to watch he and if they don't come back up to bring her back in But he said for now he didn't see anyhing that indicated any kind if sickness at all. He said that she is a very beautiful grey and He wish all his paitient looked so healthy which made me feel so good. I'm so proud of her what a wonderful girl she has become.:woohoo:  Here's my beautiful Girl isn't she just gorgous:laugh:

Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2008/11/21 04:40

I think if I were to build it I also would add a sheet metal try for underneath but it looks like fun and there are lots of places to hang toys plus it wouldn't take up more than about 3 square feet

I pick cage #1 Tyco has one simalar to that one and she absolutly loves it and I find it eaasy to clean I have a white one but if you can get that cage i a different colour i would. White really shows the poop I constantly wiping down Tycos cage every time she poops off her play top she always hits every bar on the way down and it looks so gross I have to clean it off right away I have a spry bottle of vinagar and water that sit beside her cage just because of that. In some ways its good her cage is always spotless but its allot of work also.

I have an appointment at the vet for 4:00 pm for Tyco. My regular vet is all booked up and I've never seen this Doctor before so I have no Idea what he's like. He is a certified Avian vet though so I'm sure he will be ok. If I was taking fergie instead of Tyco there is no way I'd be able to take her this is a man Vet and Fergie hates all men. she was abused by one very badley so I have to have a Woman vet for her. With Tyco it doesn't matter I was told when I got Tyco that she was a mans bird. Well I'm not a man and she chose me so who's to say. Tyco I'm sure won't care one way or the other if she see a man or a woman so I hope he good Tyco still isn't the friendliest bird in the world so he better know his stuff or she may bite him.

Hi Zooman I don't know if you have seen this playstand or not but One of themembers here built it I copied the picture because I loved it and thought I'd like to build something simalar for my birds I hope who ever biult it doesn't get angrey about me taking a copy Its not copywrited so I didn't think they would mind. I thought you might like it also.

I'm thinking that may be the case with Tyco also. Even though she gets tons of Calcium she may not be getting enough d3 to help her absorb the calcium I only have 1 full spectrum light in the room my birds are in and I thinking it may not be giving off enough for the size of the room they are in Tyco does cage is right in front of a window but its shaded by a big bush even thoughh all the leaves have fallen off the bush for the winter she still may not be getting enough. I have to go to work today. but I'm off tomorrow so i'm going to take her into the vet. I don't understand how 1 bird could be calcium deficient and all my other birds be fine. Do Greys require more or motabulize differently than Amazons. Fergie is the picture of health her feather's shine like the sun on the lake. Tyco to looks Health except for her flight drop somtimes not all the time Tyco is also starting to Molt do you think that might have something to do with it? Do they require extra Calcium to make new feathers? I have noticed she has been eating allot more of the calciun rich vegetables latley.
