I love your vid of your birds eating habits how cute he likes to make his own foraging toys Tyco does the same sort of thing only she rips and shreads up a whole buch of news paper and the throws he food into the pile of paper. the she spends the next hour or so looking for it an eating it. Its very funny to watch.

Close your Eyes so you can't see the bite coming or close your fist and offer the back of your hand to him bend your wrist so the skin is really tight he won't be able to get a good grip. just make sure when he moves to grab a soft spot like the side of your hand that you also move so that all he can get to is the back of your fist that has the tight skin he will soon relieze he can't get a good bite and stop trying. It works great Its called the Iron Fist.

Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2008/11/10 05:28

That so great it Sounds to me like George is just loveing his new home and flock. He will come around don't you worry My daughter and I both work with Tyco she teaches her games and gives her treats. And I do everything else. I can handle Tyco now and she allows me to give her Scritches. My daughter can rub her beak and such and I'm sure Tyco would allow her to give her a scritch but my daughters to leary to try she's not afraid just a bit leary of the beak. I'm sure George will be the same way he may pick your husband as his favorite person but he will allow you to be apart of his flock and have some kind of meaningful relationship with him as well. Your doing a wonderful job so far just keep it up and George will respond positively to all you love. I think it wonderful that you are so willing the give this guy the kind of home he deserves.

My birds love to watch me Make new toys for them alot of the stull I use is stuff from old toy parts that didn't get destroyed the first time around they get so excited and can hardly wait to get their beaks on it Some thing like drilling holes and sawing wood I have to do Out side so that most of the stuff that is done inside is bird safe so I just let the investegate if they want to

I feel the same I love to spend every bit of spare time I have with my birds they are so much fun to be around yes they are messy and cane get into things they aren't suposed to like chewwing the natural wood trim around every window and ceiling in my house. But they are birds and birds like to chew At least they leave my antiques alone so far anyway. the Trim can bbe replaces fairly inexpencively so its not a big deal. If I ever decide to sell my home or it gets really bad I'll fix it so far they've kept it to one room so I'm not to worried about it. Mabie they will learn that its a no no before it goes to much further. I could not imagine not spending time with my birds on a daily basis. I feel guilty when I'm really busy with lifes chores and don't have allot of time to spend with them They really miss me during those times and all want to be with me at the same time. Then I really feel guilty that I haven't been there for them. thank goodness Its only a couple days out of the month that I get busy like that.

If the birds are in separate cages then she probubly will never look after the eggs properly Usually the male and Female work together while the hen incubates the egg her mate will feed her or will sit on the eggs while she gets something to eat. She can't do this if her mate is not with her 24/7 If you want her to take care of her eggs put them in the same cage and give them a nest box other wise she will probubly never bring the eggs to term.

Well it looks like we have an Amazon named Cooper on ther Forum thats a great name I'm sure I will learn it in no time and forget all about that his name was mojo before. I know Fergie doesn't even respond to apple-jack but say Fergie and she right there. I;m going to post another Picture of Fergie being a bad bird and chewing the trim on the ceiling. Please excuse the cobwebs I didn't see them until I saw them in this photo. Leave it to Fergie to show me the things I missed dureing cleaning I wonder when she going to get a white glove.

Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2008/11/10 01:55

Isn't it amazing that a bird can figure out a puzzle faster than us humans It just shows you how very intelegent they are They can use deductive reseasoning to figure out and solve things just like we do. Definatly not just a dumb animal.

Yes I do love the fact that there are not to many of them that are pets. It is sad if people would just spend a little more time with they're IRN & ALEX I'm sure they wouldn't have the rep that they have Its because people spend mabie onc a week with they're birds and expect them to stay tame and friendly well you and I know that these birds take a lot more time than one day a week. I think thats why the have the reputation that they have.

:)Ok I'm dieing to hear how your visit went today I've bee waiting long enough now. Was he excited to see you. Do you think he's starting to recognise you as a more frequent visitor now. You should try taking some kind of special treat with you like somethig the store doesn't give him. I know Gizmo just adores walnuts he will come out and stand on the door of his cage for a walnut. I try not to use bribary with my birds because i don't want them to turn into black mailors I find lots of praise works just as good. Since Tanners not home yet I figure a little bribary won't hurt and he would probubly love to have a little treat. Anyway I'm waiting to hear how your visit went today so when you have time please fill us in. Thanks Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2008/11/10 03:14

Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2008/11/10 09:17

Shes going to be a beauty when she grows up baby birds always remind me of the story of the ugly duckling. they most certainly do develope inthe most beautiful creatures on earth. Ijust love to watch the trasformation keep posting those pics for us so we can see her as she growing. -
I love the name Beau and I think it would suit him I also like Nickolas, Jonasand Casey

Yes I agree he really needs to get home a Pet store is no place for any animal for any length of time. He does seen to be trying to develop a bond with you I think once you get him home the 2 brains thing will stop and he will be alot more comfortable. I'm sure haveing a million different faces stareing at you all day long does not help he confidence level he needs a rotine and a flock he can call his own then he will be a happy bird.

I know Irns have the samw rep I hear it all the time Irns are noisy irns are nippy they don't make good pet. What a load of crap Raja make a bit of noise in the morning for about 10 minutes. other than that he's as quiet as can be.

what a great bird mom i'll bet every canary in the world would just love to come and live at your house.
-
Oh yes he comes out and sits on the door of his cage or somtimes he will sit on top of the cage. he still has tried out the swing, boing, or rope that I have hanging from the ceiling beside his cage but I'm sure he will soon he's relly starting to want me around and when I'm gone he misses me. When I came home from work the other night he got so excited to see me. I am trying to get him used to being touched. I make a game out of it like you would a child I'll say I'm going to touch your tai; and then very quickly go for a touch then I'll say the same thng with his wing or his back. He seems to enjot it and I'm hoping he will get to like being touched pretty soon.
-
Gizmo is really starting to come around now he still won't let me touch his feathers. but he like it when I rub his feet and his beak. He loves to share anyrhing I'm eating I sit beside his cage door and he will come so close to eat off the edge of my plate. he doesn't mind me eating at the same time I find I'm eating veggies with salad dressing dip so he can eat the veggies plain and I can dip mine. He loves his bath everyday and gets very clownish hangin by one toe from the top of his cage with his wings open he also will sit up on the door while I bath him so I can get really close to him. I can cover him at night now but he's like a little kid at bed time and like to stall for time. He will say hello how are you? and I'll say fine how are you and he'll how are you and this goes on for a few minutes back and forth then I'll say you want a kiss night night and he will put his beak between the bars so I can give it a kiss. then he'll say kiss and I'll kiss him again. he's so funny because I know he's just stalling for a little more time. He has a fantastic vocabulary and talks in context also he ask for different things he will say I'm hungry or its cold if he's cold he's really quite amazing. I'm sure that in time he will show me everything he knows its going to be quite the adventure to learn all the thing he knows and the new thing he will learn as we go on.

Isn't strange that Amazons seen to really love the sound of the Vacum cleaner When I turn mine on Fergie will acually sit on it while I push it around chattering away the whole time just having the time of her life. She can be such a brat at times but then she will do something so indearing that you can't help but love her to death. Fergie likes to get on top of my Kitchen cabnets and chew the wood she knows she not allowed but she pushes her luck to the max. She gets a time out and I no sooner get her out and she p there again. looking down at me and laughing to beat the band. Then after a few moments she perch on my shoulder and rub up against my face and say I love you. and of course all is forgiven. Zons are not easy but they are very special in their own way.

Your Not going to have any trouble taming him down at all. Just a little advice take him in and get his wings clipped just this once if you want to keep him flighted. and then get him away from the cage to another room where he can't see his cage and work with him if he's going to be your husbands bird he should be the one to work with him. Oh and by the way the way to an Amazons heart is through his stomach they love food be careful though the tend to get obese and get liver problems don't feed to many peanuts or sunflower seeds. Gizmo does the same thing when I spray him with the water bottle he actually hangs from the top of his cage with one toe and flaps his wings it funny to watch they really are good entertainment they keep you laughing all day long. When I got Fergie I changed her name also her name uned to be Apple Jack and they called her Jack well Everyy Jack I've ever met has been a Jack ass and besides that she a girl. when I first got her when she talked I thought she sounded just like a little Frog so I called her Fergie because it went good with the frog in her throat you know Fergie frog.

Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2008/11/08 21:02

This is a picture of Fergie My Zon the color is a little off in this picture. I haven't gotten around ro putting any more on mt computer yet so this one will have todo. I'll post another one I have of her later
-
Well its about time you told the rest of the world I've been on pins and needles for 2 days now waiting for this thread. He's beautiful. I love Amazons your going to have so much fun with him once he settles in. I was thinking about you today while I was playing roly poly with a tennis ball and my Zon she just loves rolling the ball back and forth between us. They are very playful birds and curious about everything. I'm sure your new baby will come around in no time once he settles in. just watch his body language an Amaxon will always warn before it bites. I think its wonderful that you gave this bird a chance for a happy life if he's only a year old it won't take to long for him to come around You know how to do it patients and love are the key. and never show an Amazon that your afraid of his bite he will play on it to the max. Good luck with your new rescue project I'm sure you will have him eating out of your hand in no time.

They don't look that hard to make I think I'll try I'll let you know hoow it goes.

We have one in cloverdale close to me every but its very small I went last year but I did't bother I at my limit when it comes to birds. I got enough to keep me going for the next 30 years of so. My birds have toys till the year 2020 I'm sure so I really have nothing to buy at a bird show If I did go I might be tempted so I stayed home this year.

Personaly I think its the ugliest thing I've ever seen. and I trully hope that the person who did that to that poor bird gave it a good home because I don't thing anyone else would want it. except mabie a zoo poor bird. Why don't people just leave the birds the way they are God made them perfect in every way. people seem to always have to mess with perfection.
