Gizmo really needs a bath I tried putting a bakeing dish in the bottom of his cage but he won't go near it. I think he must of been in a small cage because he doesn't use much of the huge cage I gave him and his feathers are very ratty his tail has a bend in it like its hasn't had enough room for a long time Like the kind of curve birds get when they have been in a nest box for awhile. I don't want to take a spray bottle to him as I'm afraid it will scare him but I do want to bath him any suggestions

I do have an enormous love for them. My kids think I'm loseing it. they call me th crazy bird lady :laugh: I just tell them that they make me happy I live in the middle of no where I would go crazy If I didn't have something to keep me busy. At least with birds its enjoyable way to keep myself busy.

my birds are flighted also and when they want to spend a little time with me they will fly to where I am I find it a lot easier to keep them flighted that way I don't have to go to them to play with them they will come to me. they seem to keep the samentimes everyday to come and play I don't know how but its always within a coule minutes everyday. Mabie they can tell time;) :blink: :laugh:

She definatly has her moments when she wants to be affectionate its not very often though I must say. When she does its so awesome I do hope that what happened last night will continue but today she was back to being her independent self again. I know that she loves me and trusts me and I guess thats the most important thing if she not always cuddely thats ok becuase when she is its very speciel because it doesn't happen very often Its such a awesome feeling when she lets you know she loves you as much as you love her.

Gizmo is finally home. I just got home about an hour ago and I didn't take any pictures tonight. Gizmo has been in the car in a cat carrier from from 7am until I picked him up in Hope at 6:pm then He was in a nice big travel cage. But for the first 10 hours of driving all over BC he was stuck n a tiny carrier without even a perch. He's very skinny and his feathers are quite ratty but we'll get him in shape He was talking to me some when I finally got him into his own cage and seemed quit active he made the strangest noises when I tried to cover half his cage for bed so I just left him without a cover and pluged in a small night light for him. I'm going to let him settle in for a few days. and see how he does with a good diet of fresh fruits and veggies and zupreen fruity pellets I gave him some in his cage tonight along with a high quality nuts frut and seed mix. I'll take some pictures tomorrow.

Baxters mom it probubly won't be for about another 6 hours or more. I was going to pick hip up in cashe creek but now I have to wait until he gets to Hope because he is going there. which is closer for me but a 6 hour drive from Prince George which is where he's coming from. he left there 1 hour ago so its going to be at least that long they have a couple stops along the way apparently. I so wish I was still picking him up in Cashe Creek becaus then I wouldn't have this agonizing wait for him to call with the ETA. Its makeing me crazy and time is draging on.

To cute she really likes that corn. The side ways veiw was interesting.

I would say it would be safe enough. I think cooking it would kill any bacteria that might have gotten in there.

Tyco was the same way when I got her she would not allow any interaction except to rub her beak. Its been just over a year and in that time she has gone from that to letting me scritch her head and neck before bed and when she wakes up and last night I had a major break through she actually snuggle her head and body up against my body. it was a wonderful feeling of love. you are doing exactly the right thing by letting her/him come to you. s/he will let you know when s/he's ready for something more. it will happen your job right now is just to love and talk and sing and now give her treats. until she desides it time for something else. The first time Tyco let me touch her she told me it was ok by putting her head down it was only a 1or2 second scritch but it got a little longer every night and then she started asking for scritches in the morning also now she can't get enough before bed I stop before she even comes close to wanting me to if she had her way I'd be there forever giving her neck and face scritches. you are doing everything right just keep up the good work.

that's great news that woody is not acting negetivly towards Indi and things are going well mabie your BF will learn not to be so nervous around the birds since Indi seems to like him so much. I love the name you chose and he really is a pretty bird.

:woohoo: Tyco actually let me cuddle her close tonight. I was in shock I invited a friend over tonight and I brought Tyco out to Introduce her to my friend. I took her back to her cage but she didn't want to be there and actally flew off my arm so she didn't have to. So I stepped her up and brought her back out to the living room she was on my arm faceing my friend and my friend was talking away to her Tyco was having a wonderful time. I was sitting on the couch with her and she backed up and laid her head and body up against mine. I could hardly beleive it. I said to my friend that she should come over more if this is how Tyco is going to behave.my friend said why is she not normally this affectionete I said she has never let me do anything more than give her a scritch before bed and a good morning scritch she has definatly never snuggled up to me like she did tonight I felt so close to her it was such an awesome feeling of love.{Love-000200DA}<br><br>Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2008/10/27 11:19

I am so happy they got him back I have a lump in my throat after reading Dans post got tears of joy running down my face.It so nice to know there are still some people out there that care. I have been praying forAjax ever since he went missing I'm so glad he was found last night it was so cold last night it went down below freezing at least Ajax found himself a nice warm house to stay in. After being pet they sure don't like being out there trying to fend for themselves I've heard allot of story's about parrots landing on shoulders or porches so they can find a human to take care of them and help them get back home.

who's sleeping not me can't wait until tomorrow. I've been trying to keep busy for two days. I sanitized his cage and the travel cage. Went shopping for new toys, cut new branches for perches cleaned those, made anew swing for him and hung that and a nice thick 6ft length knotted cotton rope from the ceiling besdehis cage. Filled a big wicker basket with foot toys and put that on his play top.and still time is not going fast enough for me. Now aparently I won't be able to pick him up in Cashe creek her brother has changed his plans and now he's goingto meet me in hope tomorrow sometime which is way closer for me but I still have no idea when he's going to be there he going to phone me tomorrow sometime before 2pm and give me his ETA so tomorrow I'm going to be on pins and needles all day waiting for the phone to ring. Time is going to go so slow tomorrow. :angry:

Gosh do I know how you feel I'm picking up Gizmo on Monday and the time is going so slow. I can feel your excitment and I'm right there with you must keep busy can't dwell on the time. sounds just about right to me. I also want to see some pics of your new Grey 6 hours oh man thats forever isn't it.

I have 2 cockateils and they are in the same room as my Grey and they do have out time together under supervision. Tyco my Grey is fully flighted but I do keep my teils clipped as said they are not the brightest bulb in the box. and would fly over and put themselves in danger if they weren't clipped. besides that I just lost a cocateil because he got spooked and flew into a window and broke his neck so now the cockateils are clipped for their own safety. I have no problems with tyco trying to attack the teils unless they try to venture into her territory. She likes them I think she listens to them intently all day long. my male Cocatiel talks and says a llot of the same things Tyco says so I think Tyco likes that. my female is very quiet and doesn't say vocalize much at all. I don't have problems with them being out together but thats always been the way it is in my house all the bird cages get opened from early morning until 8 pm unless I have to go out. I do put the smaller birds in there cages when I'm not home even when My daughter is here and I'm not. the big birds can stay out as long as someone is home but unless I'm supervising the little birds must go in their cages.

oh no I'm so sad to here this is he fully flighted or clipped if he's flighted he could be miles away. I hope they find him I live in the lower mainland so this is close to home for me. Its so cold at night now I hope he's ok I have had frost on my windshield a couple of mornings so far I know one morning it was only 2 degree above freezing thats to cold for a parrot thats used to a nice warm house. I hope hes found some kind of shelter at night. please keep us posted make sure she puts adds up on all the free post advertizings on the web as well as in the sun, province, buy & sell Press, and any local papers as well as any vets that are in that area and if he flighted I would probubly call all the vets in the lower main land also has he got a band on and does she know the number. I know what its like to lose a pet some one stole my 9yr old prize shith-zu that I had since he was 5 weeks old. so I know she must be just beside herself. she has to do as much as she can if she wants to have any hope in getting her Beautiful baby back.

Me too vinager and water is the best poop disolver I've found I use it for cage cleaning for dishes and things like that I use 1 pt bleach to 10pt water this is enough to kill any bacteria anywhere I also use bleach and dawn dishsoap to wash my kitchen floor i have three small birds in my kitchen and I find that the bleach and dawn dish soap work great for cleaning the floor with and it doesn't effect the birds. Both these products are bird safe and don't have a chemical reation when mixed together.

I have wicker baskets for all my birds toy boxes they sit on their play tops and they have a ball emptying them then the chew on the basket. When the basket gets to the point where it won't hold toys anymore I go get them a new one they're onlya a dollar at the dollar store. but I agree they love there toy boxes. My Amazon loves cereal boxes. when I buy a new box of cereal I always dump it into a tupperware jug because if she spots any cereal box ful or empty she assumes its hers and will chew right through it. I've had tons of cereal wasted from her spilling it everywhere now I don't take any chances as soon as it comes out of the grocery bag it gets put into a jug so she can have to box to chew. So on another note I picking up my new rescue on Monday the person I'm getting him from Brother is going to penticton on Monday so he's going to meet me 1/2 way so its only going to be 300 miles round trip for me thats way better than the whole way which would be 1000 miles round trip. I've got so much todo before then I have to disenfect his cage, find a spot to Quarentine him go shopping for more toys cut some new perches of the tree cleant the branches and thats all before Sunday night.and I have to work tonight and tomorrow night. I also have to make a vet appointment for him but I think I'm going to put that off for a week or so until he gets a chance to settle in a bit. the 500 mile car ride down is going to be enough stress for now. he's going to be quarentined anyway so I'm not to worried. My friend took him to the vet a week ago before she brought him to her house because she breeds birds she didn't want to take any chances. her vet said that he was in resonable health he just needed some TLc and some good nutrition and a few good baths. so I'm not to concerned about rushing off to the vet as soon as I get him home. anyway I may not be on here for a day or so because of all the work I have todo I'll be back though this forum is very addictive:laugh:

I now when Tyco is very aggresive playing with her toys I stand back. she likes foot toys and some times she will want me to pick her toys up for her because she has accidently dropped them I know its dangerous to just give her the toys at this time so I literly throw them on to her play top or she will get me as well as the toy. she is 5 years old and sometimes she want attention and sometimes she doesn't she will usually let me know when its ok. your Grey may be feeling her hormones a little more than usual these days and it take sometimes a month or so to get over these feeling of wanting to reproduce it can be a frustrating for them at this time give your Grey a little space and all will work itself out.

You should have seen Raja tonight was he ever in a playful mood he was on the small boing that hangs from the ceiling above his cage its a good size for the smaller birds because its only 5/8 thick anyway he was hanging upside down from the first turn and flapping his wings like crazy and the more he flapped the faster the boing would swing and spin. well by the time he stopped spinning and steped down onto his cage he was so dizzy he looked drunk what a silly bird he is. He was definatly getting some good excersize though making that boing go faster and faster I wonder if he felt a little queezy in his tummy after all that spinning and swinging:laugh: :sick: :silly:<br><br>Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2008/10/24 04:58

That is so cute I have a few birds that will lay on their backs on my hand but Tyco isn't one of them mabie in a year or two. Fergie my Amazon will and my GCC, and My Irn all will. They realy are very special birds. I don't no how I ever got along without mine and would never want to be without her ever. They have a way about them that is different from any other bird. mabie its there intelegence I don't know. Even though they are not the most cuddley of birds they have a way about them that is just irristable. I'm so glad you made some progress with yours keep up what your doing its working well In know time you'll be giving her scritches and she will be just as responsive as can be.
