They are sooooo beautiful I love that red tail how odd for a Timnah. I could just hug and kiss and cuddle them all day long what a couple of sweety pies. Don't you just love those dark baby eyes. they pull on my heartstrings bigtime. Thank for sharing them with us.

I'm so excited my friend just called me apparently her brother is coming half way to Vancouver on Monday so if I wan I can meet with up with him and bring Gizmo home then. where I meet him is only 250km away so that only about a 2 1/2 hour drive thats only about a 175 miles not bad we will be home in time for dinner almost :woohoo: I better get busy i have so much todo before then Scrub and disinfect his cage find a place to Quarintine him go shopping for more toys. oh my gosh I'm so not ready for this. I'm just so excited I can hardly contain myself. oh yea I have to make a Vet appointment also. Do you think I should let him settle in a bit before I take him to the vet. I'm sure the 6 hour drive is going to be quite stressful for him and if he just gets here and then has to go to the vet the very next day it might be to much for him what do you think he's been moved around quite a bit latley mabie I should give him a week or so and then take him to the vet. He will be Quarintined anyway so its not like my other birds are going to catch anything if he has anything. My Friend said she did take him to the vet before she brought him to her house because she is a breeder and didn't want to take any chances with her flock. She said the vet said he was in reasonable health he just mostley stressed and need some good nutrition and TlC That was a week ago. So what do you think should I hold off on the Vet for a week or so or take him in right away?

Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2008/10/26 17:24

If you can find a breeder in your area that would be best. just google breeders of indian ringnecks in what ever area you live in. Its inportant as ringneck go wild very quickly without daily interaction and petting. so I would say yes get a newly weaned baby from a breader you won't pay anything more than 250 for the green ones and the price will go up depending on the colour. I have a IRN and he is the sweetest most loving little guy. another thing the males are can be allot less likely yo become cage territorial when they reach maturity so you may want to have it dna tested. anything else you want to know just ask. heres a couple pics of mine he's just a baby so he doesn't have his rings yet he is a DNA tested Male. you also might want to read the thread Alexanderines on this forun they are very much like ringnecks and I have put allot of information about my bird in there as well It 9 pages long so its a good one for this bird.

Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2008/10/23 15:03

I heard a Grey is less likley to pluck if their in a family with more than 1 bird. I have 6 birds and I rescuing a new Macaw in the next little while. I find that my birds have become one big flock and although the all don't interact the also don't fight with each other. I think they are happier with more birds around after all they are flock animals so when they are a lone bird it not a natural existance for them. I think in the long run woody will be much happier with you getting a new bird then if you don't. Just my opinion

Mary I was a total work aholic for so many years I worked 12 to 14 hours a day 6 sometimes 7 days a week up until about 7 years ago when I got septisemia blood posioning that went to my heart. My legs burnt right down to the bone from the inside out. my hemaglobin was 2 and my blood presure was non existant the Dr. told me I was going to die. my answer to him was I don't have time to die. I still had three teenage girls at home and a 6 yr old there was no way I was about to leave them motherless. Everything tasted like salt for about a year so it was hard to eat but I had to eat in order to get better I was taking 300 mg of Iron a day to help build my hemagobin back up. I went from 140lbs to 85 lb in 10 day whem I got out of the hospital My right leg was 1 foot shorter than my left leg and all my tendents where burnt and shrivled up in a ball behind my Knee It took almost 21/2 years to recover so that slowed me down some. I must say though all that hard work paid off. I'm 50yrs old I own my own home and its paid for I drive a brandnew pt cruser convertable that also paid for. I still have to work but not to much anymore. I still have a couple open wounds on my legs that don;t heal very well due to all the damage to the little blood vessels in my legs. I have to have my feet up allot of the time now of they get infected so its two hours up and then two hours down. on the nights I work I pretty much have to have my feet up all day so I can be on my feet for 6 hours straight. I must admit I have lots of time for myself because I have no choice so when I'm sitting with my feet up I spend that time with my birds. let me tell you they get tons of one on one quality time because I have all the time in the world these days I can have the amount of birds that I have because allot of the time I'm just sitting with my feet up anyway. I don't have to work to hard anymore so I don't

I find with bathing Tyco usually will tell me when she wants one two or three times a week she will try and bath in her water dish thats when I will go and ask if she wants to shower she wil then say shower and I take her to the bathroom and she has her shower. then I put her back on her play top and she will take another bath in her water bowl go figure silly bird. with new foods make a huge deal about how good they are but don't offer her any until she absolutly is begging to try what you have. Her curiosity will get the better of her and she will just have to have some of what your eating. Pellets are a hard one. you may have to try a few differnt kinds before you find one your bird will eat. Mine all like Zupreen fruity maintenance and I think most birds do so You might want to try those first. I have 10 bags of different types of pellets in my freezer because I went for all the other before the fruity ones So every once in a while I grind some of the others up and put them in muffins and stuff like that so I can get them used up that way, Its also a way to get pellets into your bird if you bird really won't eat them. You can grind them and put them in anythin like scrambled eggs. pasta rice and bean mash squash what ever.

A clip is fine as long as they can saftly glide to the floor without dropping like a rock. If you cli the first 3to6 primary flights that should be plenty to allow your bird to fly enough to land saftly as long as he can fly downward gracefully if he can still gain height you can always clip another feather but if you cut to many you can'tput them back so go slow when you re clip clip a couple at a time and see how he does. I have an Amazon that is such a strong flyer that even with her wings clipped she can fly really well. It doesn't matter to me though I don't clipp my birds at all. I have double doors so if they get out the first door they will find themselves in another room. So I see no reason to clip them.

I would be a little worrien that my bird would chew its way out mabie you could find a small bird cage that would fit inside of it then it would be perfect I like that backpack on wheels Idea it would be great for going to the park or the beach And it looks like it would be big enough to put a small travel cage inside of it

Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2008/10/22 06:03

That is so cute I wonder if my bigger birds would like a sleeping hut. My GCC loves his he actually lays down and streaches out in it at night its the cutest thing I've ever seen but I can't get a picture because as soon as I lift his blanket for more than a second he gets up.

Please don't clip his wings again Greys are very heavy birds and if they can't fly at all they fall hard. When I first got Tyco She had been babering her left wing flight feathers for years due to a bad clip. becase she had barbered only one side she was extreamly off balance and would fall continuously very hard on her Keel it was awful and it scared the heck out of me she would land with a huge bang. I took her into the vet and had her wings evened out so at least she wasn't off balance any more she has stopped barbering now and is fully flighted but a Grey that can't fly at all is dangerous for the bird unless your planning on covering your floors with a 2 inch layer of foam rubber so when he falls he won't break his keel bone.

She should be weaned at 6 months old but some birds do take longer. you may have to start the weaning process all over again give you vet a call and se what he has to say about all this he may have a few Ideas on what today.

I emailed my friend and asked her if it would be possible to come and pick him up on Sunday I'm waiting to here back from her. I punch her address into my Gps and its only 627 km which is about 400 miles or so. I figure about a five or 6 hour drive not to bad and If I do it on sunday My daughter Tuesday will be home for my birds. I'll be tired driving 12 hours straight but I can sleep when I get home. if I leave at 9am I be back by 10pm thats not bad I'll just eat at drive throughs. Do you think it will stress Gizmo out allot a 6 hr drive is allot for any bird.

Teils are very social birds and really love people. they usually are not 1 person birds and will go to anyone for a scritch and a little attention. I got a parent fed teil that sat in a cage for 8 months and I tamed him in 2 days. I got a couple of good bites but once he relized biteing wasn't going to work and that I wasn't going to hurt him he was as sweet as could be. I worked with him about 3 imes a day for 10 minutes at a time thats all it takes.
-
Time for myself whats that? Just kidding I have lots of time after the birds go to bed. I cover their cages at 8pm so I have a couple hours to get thing ready for the next day and an Hour just to relax and spend time doing whatever I want to do.

I'm going to try some of your foraging Ideas out as soon as I go shooping I'll buy some margarine that comes in the small containers. I usualy use butter and Margerine for baking but I just buy Did you see the new rescue bird I'm getting its a Severe Macaw. take a look. This thread of ares is showing signs of slowing down so let try to keep things fresh. Hows that little girl of yours doing since you've been back I bet she doesn't want to leave you for a minute. I know when I'm gone for any length of time my birds are stuck like glue for awhile they don't want to let me out of their sight in case I'm gone to leave them again.
