3. It sounds like you have a very thoughtful husband. Thats so good the break is going to make everything look a little brighter. You have a wonderful time and don't think about anything just enjoy. you'll be back at it soon enough and everyone will be fine. go have a good time relax and have lots of fun in veges hope you win a truck load of money
4. I'm sorry if I made you feel bad in anyway I know what its like when your mom or dad is sick and needs your help. Both my parents are gone now and I remember when it was my dads time. It was just awful I spend every minute I could at the hospital I would get up in the morning and feed the birds get my daughter off to school and leave for the hospital. I'd come home to cook dinner and feed the birds and let them out for an hour or so until dinner and dishes where done then it was back to the hospital again. this went on for a whole week and my dad was not being fed at all because everytime they gave him something to eat he would hemoredge from the bowel. So he was slowly starving to death it took a whole week for him to pass and it was the worst week of my life watching my dad dieing a little more each day. I do know what changes in life can be like we all have them some are good changes and some aren't. I'm trully sorry that your mom has fallen and cracked her hip and I hope she heals quickly so thing can get back to normal for you. I was not directing my post at you I know we have changes also but I was talking about the people that buy birds and stick them in a cage and don't even care if they are there or not I know that you love your birds and if you could you would be there for them and will be again I'm so sorry my statements where not for you or anyone else on this forum forgive me its not like me not to be sensetive to what was going on in your life at the moment I didn't even think about it when I said those things. I'm very sorry if I hurt your feelings.
5. Its always been one of Tyco's favorite game to see how many times mom will pick up the same toy when pretending to drop it accidentaly They are so funny Tyco will start playing with a toy then drop it and look down at the toy as if to say mom oh no I dropped it but I want it. and everytime I'll go over and pick it up for her only to have her do it again as soon as I sit back down. I know this game very well. I might play for a coupe rounds then the toy stays on the floor until she goes and gets it herself. I think thats why she prefers foot toys her favorite game is whoops a daisy.
6. that so great that you found a such a nice well loved bird to adopt. he will come to trust you quickly. he will miss his previous owner but he will soon adapt andrespond to your love and pateints. Greys are absolutly wonderful birds in no time your going to wonder what you ever did without him.
7. Your toys are wonderful I'll take one of each my birds would just kove them. I make all my own toys also except for their boings and a couple other litte things I have made everything they have in the way of wooden toys. They just want to much money for somthing I can make myself for a fraction of the cost. Yours are alot nicer looking than mine but the birds seem to love to chew them up even if they don't look store bought. When I make toys Tyco sits and waches so intently and when I'm done shes the first one checking it out she just loves getting new toys to play with. she prefers foot toys best where as my Amazon likes the hanging ones just like kids they know what they like
8. No I don't know what got into her. Mabie she's a little upset because I took her cage outside and scrubed it down really good. mabie it was her way of telling me that I've done enough to her cage and to leave her stuff alone. I never thought about it much until now. I know when I brought her cage back in the house she inspected every inch of it. I was still drying it off with a towel and I put the towel down for a minute to go get somethin and when I came back she had the towel in her beak and was wipeing her cage.LOL I asked her if I missed a spot it was so cute. But mabie she wasn't happy about it at all.
9. Tyco dishes can be fil from the outside also but she has never bit me before so I didn't ecpect it It was just easier to reach in an put a few more pelet in her dish. It was bedtime usually at bed time she is quite affectionate and wants scritches I certinly didn't expect her to bite me or I wouldn't have done that. She has never bit me before.
10. That is so great I have a couple birds that won't poop in their cage. but I never tryed getting them to poop on the toilet I also have one bird that I keep a empty food bowl in her cage and thats where she always poops I have to clean it everday but its a lot easier that having to clean perches and everything else they hit with their poop I wish all my birds would poop in a empty food bowl. Haveing Elmo toilet trained literly is quite the accomplishment whhat a smart little girl you have there.
11. What a cute vidio I have a dog that thiks it mommy to all my bird she is a Shith-zu and if they're on the floor she won't leave their side and if someone gets o close she get very upset I guess she doesn't want anyone to step on her babys LOL She is very matenrnal I breed her for a few years but she is retired now. I think she misses being a mom so she has taken on a few foster birds its really cute the way she babys them
12. Tyco got me really good tonight. I don't even know why she bit me. It was bed time and she went into her cage no problem. I noticed that her pellets where getting low in her dish so I told her I would be back with some more in a minutes I filled up the scoop and reached into her cage to put them in her dish and she grabbed my arm at the bend and bit right on the big vein on the inside of my elbow. I didn't react and thank goodness it didn't start bleeding . I shut her door and threw the cover over her and at the same time said your a bad bird no bite mom in a stern voice. and I walked away she didn't quite bite through it but there is a huge blood blister on the inside of my arm. This bite oh it hurts she really got me good she couldn't have picked a better spot if she aimed right on the vein
13. They are related they are both parakeets and they both have the same rose coloured rings if they were not closely related they would not breed together. and if they did there off spring would be sterile. Indian ringnecks and Alexaderines are very closely related just like CAGS and Tags and who ever told you differntly is wrong.
14. Thats a great story it is a story that many of aour parrots can relate to I'm sure. My Tyco went through three homes before I found her starving and chewing her feathers now she's also in her forever home happily playing and being loved she is my amigo very good story. You should get it published.
15. Your poor Daughter is going to be afraid to eat anything soon she will be asking you constantly is this for the birds or for us. poor kid{Emotions-0002005A}
16. We all love birds thats why we are here so what if some one post a gross thing from Youtube we all know what kind of things are on there. so forget it and get back to talking and helping each other with our birds that what we are here for Richards mom welcome to the forum pull up a perch and make yourself at home. I for one could care less about what youtube has on ther site that their problem Mine is making sure my birds have the best of everything and I'm pretty sure everybody here feels the same way including Richards mommy so forget this stupid thread and lets get back down to why we are all here
17. I agree with you Judy I really like this thread also its fun to talk about birds that have such a bad reputaion that I think is mostly from people who don't spend allot of time with their birds. Alexis and Indian ringnecks are wonderful companion if you spend a little time with them on a daily basis. I think any bird need daily companionship and if the owners aren't able to do that then they should not have a companion parrot to begin with. Yes there are some birds that need less attention but that doesn't mean that they want less. I spend quality time with all my birds on a daily basis and if I couldn't then I shouldn't have them in the first place. My smaller birds all hang out together they are all freinds with each other so its easy for me to take three at a time and play games with all of them. Tyco and Fergie and Raja I spend time with them all day long they are with me so we talk and play constantly Raja is always right next to me or on me same with Tyco and Fergie Sprout and Luna fly in when ever they want the Cockateil I have is only semi tame so I take him out for a couple 10 minute training sesions everyday. I haven't got my new bird yet but I'm sure she will fit in fine. My Daughter also loves to play with the birds so I have no problums making sure they get their share of one on one everyday I think thats the way it sould be mabie if some people read this thread they will understand about alexis and ringnecks better and their reputaion as bad companions will change. My ringneck is the sweetest little guy and he has the cutest little face I've ever seen I don't know how everyone doesnt'just love them they are wonderful little bird and I wouldn't trade mine for anything.
18. I agree sorry I haven't been to busy with my new bird I've been very busy with the ones I already have. The weather here has been pretty nice so I wanted to power wash all my birds cages before the cold weather hits. so I've been Busy takin all the cages out side and scrubing them down Tyco was so funny after I cleaned her cage she inspected every bit of it. I left the towel that I dried her cage with on the floor beside her cage and she picked it up and started wiping her cage with it I laughed I said did I miss a spot or something it was so funny she was trying todo what I was doing cute eh. anyway I got one more cage to do and I'm done what a lot of work it is. but I must say the cages look like brand new again. they are so big I don't know if they all need a cage as big as they have they only sleep in them. I'm home most of the time except for three hours before bedtime 3 days a week so my birds are out from 8am to 8 pm all the rest of the time and they all have huge cages for what I don't know I guess they sort of use them when they don't want to socialize they will go into their cages on their own during the day. but the doors are open a smaller cage would probubly be fine. I always figure for birds bigger is better but if they hardly use them what good are they except that they are allot more work for me.

Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2008/10/10 00:29
19. I think that you have to have a cage that the bird can open his wings wide and have room to turn around with his wings open. I would say you need a cage that is at least 36"x40"x 64"high not including a play top I have a huge Macaw cage for my Grey this is what mine looks like but there are lots of different style. The one your showing looks like the bars woud not be strong enough a Macaw could snip through them like wire cutters.
20. first of all if your bird has been passed around from home to home its going to take a while before he trusts anyone. right now he's prubuly waiting to go to another home because thats whats been happening. Its going to take allot of patient on your part you have todo things at his speed not yours. Open his cage and let him come out on his own. are his wins clipped. if not because you are only 13 it might be a good idea to find some one who knows how to clip birds properly to clip his wings for you. at firt you could just sit and talk with him or read to him out loud. when he come out and you want to try and take him upstairs try to get him to step up onto a perch place the perch sideways under his belly just above his feet give it a little push and say step up at the same time. don't force him todo this if he wants to he will. Practice with him on a daily basis two or three times a day for ten minutes at a time don't practice to long or the bird may lose intrest or get stressed out. once you get him to step up onto the perch take him somewhere small like the bath room or a small room where he can't get to far away from you but out of the site of his cage. this is called neutual ground. if you use the bath room make sure you close the toilet and the shower curtain. put the bird down and start practicing stepups. onto your hand make a fist so he can't get a good bite and don't ever pull away from a bite if you half to close your eyes and just take the bite with out saying anyhing excet no bite in a firm voice. when he does something right lavish praise on him give him treats get excited. if he bite to often turn you back and don't pay any attention to him for a minute or two and then resume your lesson. Its going to take allot of work love and patients from you. he's still very young though so you have that in your favor. as for diet your bird needs to have diet very simalar to your diet without the dairy products and meat. there diet should include cooked and raw vegetables cooked egg a little fish or chicken one in awhile alittle cheese oncein a while no avacado it toxic to birds no cafeine or carbonated drinks. they can have fruit juice. anything that is healthy that you eat is healthy for your bird dark leafy vegatables such as beet greans cabbage romaine lettce carrot tops broccoli and the leaves are all great foods yams or sweetpotatos cooked and mashed are great carrots turnips raw or cooked all these thing will help insure that your parrot will stay healthy. I don't know if you can get bird pelleted food in Egypt but if you can that is a great source of nutrition for your bird. Like I said before don't push her todo anything she really doesn't want todo don't pull away from a bite and love him and talk to him as much as you can. and one more thing don't approch his cage straight on come in from an angle or zigzag. also try to look at your parrot with just one eye or put your head down. Preditors have eyes on the front of their face like we do and to him you could look like a scary preditor so looking at him with one eye or with your head down show him you don't want to hurt him he should turn his head and look at you with one eye to show you that he undderstands. I hope this helps the biggest thing todo right now is to spend time with him and letting him know that this is his last home and he is not going anywhere. oh yeah make sure you tell your parrot everything you are going to do before you do it like if your going to pt your hands in his cage to feed him tell im that say I'm going to take your dish and put some yummy stuff in there for you or I'm going to give you fresh water. or I'm going to touch you or what ever it is tell your parrot first it helps them to learn to assosiate your word with what your doing so they learn not to be so afraid.

25. You should take up photograghy for a living mabie open a pet bird studio. Or a mobile pet studio so you could go to them. I'm sure lots of people would love to have a beautiful picture of there birds to hang on the wall with the rest of the family photos. I know I would. Harrison is absolutly stunning and you did a great job of capturing that. She's a lucky bird to be in bird talk magazine.

Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2008/10/08 18:21
