1. I thought I might try a few of Ken Globus Tecniquics and see how he responds to that'I would like to see if he is just bluffing when he lunges or if he really wants to bite and not be around people at all. I have a feeling hes just a big suck under all that noise and making himself look as big and mean as possible. We shall see. I think he's beautiful I love the colours of their feathers when thet are healthy they are a beautiful Emerald colour and with the reds and blues the are just gorious birds. I may just have to go pick him up The waiting is going to seem like forever. Ill have to figure out what it would cost to pick him up the lady wants $700. for him and that includes delivery. Thats not to bad concidering I've looked at a few breeders lists here in Canada and they want 1600. for them. The cheapest one I saw was 1200 and I would have to pay the shipping cost so it would still be 1400. I wonder if she would take a couple hundred off the price if I was to drive up and get him. Its going to be a very long 2 weeks and 2 day's if I don't go get him. November 8th seems like such a long ways away.
2. Well least we have some good before picture I'm sure in a couple months you won't think its even the same bird. she said he's molting but I'm just wondering if he might be plucking some. My friend took him to her house after I said I would take him she has way to many birds shes a breeder of small birds and she doesn't have any big birds at all. She's a little bit afraid of their beaks. She said he's been sitting on top of his cage ever since she brout him home. apperently he freaks out and shakes the cage and screams when you try putting him in his cage. he does not want to be locked in ever again. I can see I'm going to have to go real slow with this guy. She said if he falls of his cage he will let you pick him up and put him back. She said he takes food from your hand but lunges and grabs with great intencity like he's going to take your hand with it. she said he tapped her hand the first couple time she offered him a treat then kind of settled a little bit. She says shes not even going to try putting him back in his cage. she said he can sit there until its time to bring him to your house. Poor Gizmo it sounds like he's had quite the bad experiance. and he certinly didn't like the fact he was locked up for so long.
3. Well she emailed me a couple of pictures of Gizmo. She said he molting and is not in the best of feather right now. I think by the looks of him he will be going in for a vet check imediatly just to rule any thing major out. Like I said this is a rescue situation so please don't judge him to harshly. We will have him looking gorgous in no time.
4. Thanks for all you well wishes everyone. and yes my chidren all live close by. If they didn't I might have to move in with them and they sure wouldn't like that I'd have to bring my birds along. only kidding They all live within a hour from me my girls are both about 20minutes away and my son about 1 hour away. we are a very close family. I don't think a day goes by that my daughters don't call just to chat.
5. How about Julieanna you could call her jewel for short. I love the name Emily My Daughter just found out she having another baby and if its a girl her name will be Emily its a beautiful name I think.
6. I think tou have made the right choice as Dave said not everyone is capable of bringing a secondhand parrot into their homes. Birds are not like other pets they are not domesticated they are wild animals. You can rehome a cat or a dog and there is a good chance the it will be a wonderful pet. But a second hand bird is a different story. They will grieve deeply for their previous home if they where loved and if the were abused or neglected they will be very difficult because a human betrayed there trust to them all humans are now their enemy. Its not that easy to get a bird to change its mind but thats exactly what is need when you get a second hand parrot.
7. Thankyou LMG I've been waiting for that kind of responce. I think that I'm going to take him. He is still very young and has not been out of the pet scene for long a Year is realy nothing in the life of a Macaw. I think that with love and patients he will respond quite quickly. I have a huge empty cage that has been sitting in my dining room or months I think its time I got a nice bird like Gizmo to make his home in it. with a name like Gizmo how can he be anything but woderful. The cage is 40'w x 36'd x 54'h not including the playtop I'm sure that it will be a good size for him. I will continue my research until the 8th on November when he can be delivered to me. Now that I've finaly made my desision I'm very excited. I want him here Yesterday:woohoo:
8. They really are beautiful birds and so much like the big guys in a small package from what I've read so far I don't think it would be that diffucult. He was and is very loved. His owner is just heart broken that this alergy that she has developed just won't go away. She is also afraid that her cancer is going to come back and then Gizmo will really have no one so she really thinks its best for him to get a new forever home now. A good friend of mine aparently goes to church with this woman and she put us in touch with each other because she know how much I love my birds. That why I said its like a gift from God. I was going to get another Grey next year anyway so instead I could have a Macaw. It really is like it was meant to be. I just wish I could meet Gizmo face to Face before I say yes. I guess I could take a drive up there its only a few hundred Miles.
9. My oldest daughter phoned me this morning to tell me she going to have another baby. She has a son now he turn a year old in August. My middle daughter had a baby boy about 5 months ago. so this will be grandbaby number 3 for me. I hope we have a girl this time but as long as its healthy thats all that really important.
10. Hi Ive been offer a Severe Macaw that has been neglected for about 1 1/2 years he is 5or6 yrs old and his owner developed a extream e allergy to him after she went through cemo for her breast cancer. he has been lock in a cage in a back room for that long. the owner understands that the bird needs a new forever home badly. he is no longer a pet because of being locked up. I don't know much about these birds but I'm concidering taking it because I have always wanted a Macaw and but they have always been way out of my price range and I've always felt that my house is just not large enough for a huge Macaw. This seem to me like a gift from God Its a Macaw but it a smaller one just the right size for me and my 1500 square foot home. If any one has a Severe Macaw any thing that you can tell me about them would be wonderful. Things like what kind of toys do they prefer. Are they good talkers, Are they cuddley birds or are they more on the independent side, anything and every thing you can tell me about them would help me. how are they with other birds. thanks in advance for any help you can give me. The bird is about 500 miles away from me right now the lady that owns him is coming down to the vancouver area to drop him off to me on Nov.8th so I have a couple weeks to gather as much information about these birds as I can. She is going to email me some pictures later today so I will post them so you can see him also. Ive googled severe macaws and read alot about them but it always good to get first hand info from bird owners. Can they be rescued and learn to trust again. I have tons of patients and love to give I just don't know much. from what I've read on the net the are very devoted to their human companions and love to chew so they need lots of differnt thing to sink their beacks into. also I read that they have to learn at an early age to use their beaks in a gentle way. he was a pet a couple years ago and was totaly loved but now she cant even be near gim for more than minute or her throat swells and she can't breath she doesnt want her beloved parrot to live like this she wants to give him to someone who will love him and be able to spend as much time as she used to with him and now can't. I feel so sorry for this bird he has lost his human and he probubly has no Idea why she is doing this to him when they used to be so close. Poor baby really needs someone to love him again his name is Gizmo I could realy use your input on this. 13. Tyco onlt likes foot toys also. Excet for her giant boing her Knotted rope and her swing that hangs from the ceiling Her giant boning hangs from the ceiling and is about 10 ft long or more if you stretched it out straight its a good 6'long with the turns in it. At the top I hung a big stainless steel Bell she love to climb her boing and ring her bell. Her rope is a 2 inch cotton rope thats got 6 knot in it its about 7 ft long she likes to climb around on that also. she also uses it to make her swing go faster. she pulls holds the rope and pulls the swing towards it so when she lets go she swings faster. but as far as toys likes hanging blocks and stuff like that she doesn't care if they are there or not. she loves thing she can climb ir hold onto and throw around and that all. Raja love to play and chew kleanex I have to watch him because he love to pull them out of the box she will empty a full box in no time. he also likes cardboard boxes I hide little treats in them or in toilet paper rolls and fold the ends he loves to chew them up to find the treat inside.
14. I also have a amazon that my grey is friends with she doesn't seem to interested in my smaller birds but her and fergie do keep each other company when I'm out. If I leave my dauter at home I don't put the birds in their cages when I go out. and many times I've come home to find Tyco hanging out with Fergie on Fergies cage.
15. Mabie its all in his name. My Greys name is Tyco and she ges called TY for short and she is always getting into something she's not supposed to she eats all the trim around my doors and windows. she actually chewed a big hole in the wall behind her cage. I moved her cage away from the wall after that. If I don't watch her all the time she goes around to all the bird cages and tosses all the food dishes across the room. I'm tellen you its got to be the name mabie I change it . {Feel-good-0002006E}
16. I would mabie separate their cages a little and let them out together with a largr enough space between them that they can't reach each other. let them get to know each other from a distance first then slowly move their cages a little closer. My amazon and my Grey are now good friends but that wasn't always the case. They have always been in the same room with each other and I open all my birds cages at 8am and they are open all day long. one day Fergie(amazon) made the first move over to Tycos cage. she got chased away but within a few day Tyco went over to her cage and Fergie didn't chase her away she just went into her cage. I guess to let Tyco know that she didn't want a confrontation. since that day they have been pretty good friends not real close but they don't fight with each other either. Tyco loves to come over and vist Fergie and dump all her food dishes out. She is such a brat that way. All her dishes are locked down because of her dumping them. Fergies aren't because she doesn't do that. Tyco can't dump hers so she dumps fergies instead. The things we put up with for the love of birds eh.

Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2008/10/17 00:32
17. I don't worry to much anymore I feed my birds such a wide variaty of food that If I worryed everytime the color was a little off I'd be at the vet constantly. as long as it has all three components and the birds are eating playing and vocalizng normaly i feel safe. Mind you I was a little concerned after Tyco ate beetgreens for the first time her poop was a little slimy but it soon straitened itself out and got back to normal. I worry more about the texture than the colour with my birds.
18. I bought a really good set of ss last year and I love it I've always used My cast iron for frying though I have had my cast Iron skillets since I left home 35 yrs ago I have a small med and large and couldn't live without them they are well seasoned and I keep them that way. AS for my ss skillets they sit and never get used I never got the hang of using ss for frying so I guess they will be brand new for ever. oh well they look nice hanging from the rack in my kitchen.
19. I don't have one for my Grey but I do for My Irn and one of my conures I think it depends on each bird weather they like them or not. when I get a new bird I always put a happy hut and a roost box in thir cages if they use either one I leave them in there if they don't then I take them out after about a month. My Conure has a happy hut that he actually lay's down in and streaches out to go to sleep every night its very cute. my Indian ring neck sleeps inside a old 12 pack pop box lined with paper towels. all my other birds don't use them. If you think your bird would enjoy something to sleep in then try something other than his happy hut and see if he uses it.
20. Just beautiful names I think Moses is the perfect Grey name and Maggie sounds like a good name for a girl also. I can't wait til you bring her/him home either. I just love the little babys with those beautiful dark eyes that just melt your heart. As soon as you get her home don't forget we need some picture, I know how excited you are and probubly a little nervous also we have all been through this Its a little scary to think of all the things a new baby needs and you probuly a little nervous wondering if your going to do something wrong. I know I was terrified and so happy at the same time. Tyco was a Rescue and I was so afaid she was going to be phobic once I brought her home. a million things go through your head and All of them are usually totaly unfounded. Tyco is the must wonderful Grey on the face of this earth and I couldn't love her more if I had got her as a baby. I'm sure you feel the exact same way about your baby also. Your probubly not going to sleep very well tonight I know I sure didn't the night before I brought Tyco home. It really is the same feeling when your bring home a brand new baby excitment, fear, inticapation, and love all rolled up together. its no wonder you have butterfly's flapping up a storm in your belly:laugh:
21. Hi Mary Well its Wedensday Night at 8:02 pm and I have to put the birds to bed in a few minutes but I wanted to be the first one to welcome you back. I want to hear how fun it was just to get away and relax. I'm so jealous I could so use a little get away but I'm afraid that my house might not be here My daughter would probubly have a huge party and everything would be a total disaster area. She is just so lazy I hope its a phaze she is going through she just turned 13. Welcome home I missed you and I missed hearing about your birds.

Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2008/10/16 07:04

23. Hi as you all know when Tyco was a baby she was not permited to fledge before some one gave her a bad wing clip which caused her to barber her left wing for the next 4yrs of her life When I got her I had her wings fixed and evened out by an avian vet and now she is fully flighted and has been for about 6 months but this afternoon she actually tried for the first time to fly and she flew about 10 ft to Fergies cage and then held on for dear life. Now that she has tried out her wing I'm sure she will start taking longer and longer flight. I'm so pleased I thought she was never going to learn to fly yeah Tyco
24. Tyco loves to shread news paper I actualy will give her one to shread in her cage I use news paper to line the cage bottom but she can't reach that paper through the grate the grate is at least 8 inches above the cage bottom. her cage is enormous and she uses every inch of it.
25. Tyco loves her bell she has a couple of big ones I wake up to her singing and chatering and bells ringing every morning they reaally do like to grab hold and give them a good shake don't that steel pipe bell makes a good foot toy Tyco loves foot toys. she hardly ever plays with her other toys but she does ring her hanging bell every morning.
