  1. I have a white cage for Tyco and sometimes I wish I didn't she tends not to poop in her cage so when she poops she stands on the door or the top of her cage and poops off the side and every bit of poop shows on a white cage. I'm constatantly haveing to wash the cage bars down because the color white shows everything in some ways its good because her cage is constantly being cleaned but I have a grey cage for my amazon she does the same thing but the poop don't show as much so I just thoroly clean her cage once a week and change the papers daily. the white cage is definatly more work to keep clean.
  2. I think foraging for food is a wonderful Idea as long as your bird is able to get to the food eventually you will have to teach your baby how to work the foraging toys and after that I would go for it. I really think they enjoy there food more when they have to look for it. Tyco would never eat a raw carrot but when she threw it into the news paper and had to find it first she ate the whole thing. to me she can make as much mess as she likes if it makes her eat her veggies I'm all for it.
  3. I have a Yellow crowned Amazon and when I got her she was called Apple jack I hate the name Jack and thats what she was called most of the time. every Jack I've ever met has been a Jack-Ass to say the very least. I change her name to Fergie it just seemed to fit her and she never seemed to care she loves her new name I made up a little love song to go with it and she dances and gets all excited when I sing it to her. So I would say if you want to change the name go ahead I don't think the bird will mind one way or the other. I was going to change Tyco's name when I found out she was a girl and not a boy but Tyco seemed to suit her so I let her keep it besides I kinda like her name.
  4. He does need you he's just letting you know that he still wants to be first in your life. I would definatly star some traing sessions in a room away form distractions. not only will he learn how to step up but it will also give you some time together to reestablish the bond you have with each other. It will help him to relize that there is no need to be jealous of the dog.
  5. Tyco created her own foraging spot. I gave her a nice thick news paper to shread up and I put it on the grate of her cage she proceeded to sheard the news paper so the whole grate in her cage was a huge pile of news paper. then she went up to her dish and started Tossing every peice of fruit and veggie into this pile of news paper. I thought she just didn't want them but she did she just wanted to forage for them she went down to the bottom and started seaching through the paper and when she found somthing she sat there and enjoyed it and then went to look for something else. It was quite something to watch. I guess birds really like to forage for their food I'm going to have to get her some more foraging toys or make some different ones. She obviously loved it
  6. I have 3 birds that dance including Tyco boy can she shake her booty. My daughter taught her a dance called Shake and bake play for keeps. I don't have a vidio camara or I would show you. The dance goes like this . Tyco opens her wings slightly and struts back and forth while bobbing her head and singing Shake and bake play for keeps. It so cute.

  10. Welcome I hope you enjoy the form I'm sure you have learned quite a bit over the years and mabie you can help some of the members that are brand new parrot owners. I bet you have lots of enjoyable stories about George I love to hear about all the the silly thing these birds do and say.
  11. That a beautiful cage its the same size as the cage I have for Tyco but hers isn't stainless steel its gat simalar features as that and the bars are nice and thick like that but hers is just a high quality pownder coat. I got a great deal on her cage I thought I got it for 100. it also doesn't come apart its all one piece but You can't beat Stainless steel Tycos cage costs about 1200 to buy it new but a 3000. cage for a 180. and a swap wow what a deal Good for you I'd love to have a cage like that for Fergie or any of my birds for that matter. Good for you Your lucky you grab it when you did.
  12. The only one I have trouble putting to bed is my Green Cheeked conure he always wants to play and will play catch me if ou can Until he flies into my arms. Everyone else I just say ok bedtime into your hous and all of them go into their cages and wait for their kiss and scritch good night and then I shut their doors and cover them up I put them to bed around 9pm and get them up around 830 am
  13. Well you are very right the Lord works in mysterious ways. Thank goodness all things have worked out for the best. You can spend lots of time with your mom and that will help in her recovery as well for her to have her family around her will be great medicine for her. Its good that you have people to take good care of your new baby while your gone. 2 weeks is a long time when they are young like that I hope that everything goes ok Hand feeding can be difficult and many things can go wrong if they don't know what there doing. Have a safe trip and I will keep you in my prayers for a good outcome for all in this situation,
  14. Tyco won't take a hand feeding anymore but Fergie My Amazon loves the occational shringe full of formula and she is 11 yrs old. I had yo habd feed my GCC and My baby Teil for awhile because Tyco bit my GCConures top mandable off so I hand fed him for about 8 months until his beak grew back enough that he could eat on his own again. I started giving the rest of my birds what ever was left that my Conure didn't eat and Fergie loved it.
  15. Thats great that you have her/him almost weaned I love Amazons they are such great birds. when they are babys they really like to play and do fun things. the are the best birds. I would not ever want to know what not haveing Fergie in my life would be like She is the sweetest cuddle muffin and she has the best sense of humor. She also knows just what to say to make me feel guilty. Some times if she know I'm getting ready to go some where she will say no don't go its not fair its just not fair. It makes me feel so bad when she does that.
  16. Me too I want more pics. That Chimp is to cute. He must be a huge amount of work I would imagine. They really are very human like aren't they. You should have taught him how to retie you shoes. Or mabie not he probubly would have tied them together.
  17. I wish You live in eastern canada there Is a 30yr old Greenwing Macaw in Toronto that needs a new home apparently she is extreanly sweet and loving. Her Owner is selling her for 500. dollars and that incudes her cage play stand toys and travel cage. the poor thing is slightly disabled but gets around fine. I really hope she finds a good home.
  18. My Tyco also loves foot toys goes through them like crazy This is what I buy for her allot because they last quite a long time and she loves them most pet shops carry them there is a walnut inside of them that rattles I bought her a big one the last time and she has had it for 3 weeks now. they are only about $6.00 and she loves them those and baby rattles with rings on the handles are and anything with a bell inside I do have to watch he with the bell thing because she is a very large Grey and breacks them open in seconds. I'm always afraid she's going to cut heself on the hard plastic.
  19. These are wonderful I have birds that play with my computer but not Tyco she still isn't quit that brave to come over and see me and Fergie just likes to poop on my Keyboard so it doesn't work anymore. If I could post pics of my Irn of GGC or even my teil they all are little nerds when it come to the computer lol but this contest is only about Greys. Oh well I'll post one anyway even if its not in the contest

  21. I had the same Problem with Tyco when I first got him after his first clip long before I got him she never let her left wing grow back I took her to the vet and had her reclipped to even out her wings so they matched each other and she finally after 5 years of mutilation has let her wings grow out she is fully flighted for the first time in her life just a suggestion mabie get her wings proffetionally clipped again it my make a difference. as for the plucking it may take a vet check up or you visiting your perents on a daily basis to spend a little time with her.
  22. I can well imgine what its like packing up every thing the birds would need for a couple days I think I would just get my daughter to come over for a couple hours each day. rather then take them to her. espeically if its only for 2 days thats just to much work. then you gotta do it all again when you get home. Hope you have a wonderful time everything will be back to normal soon and the little get away should releive some of the stress even if its only temporary I wish I could get away sometimes but there just never seems to be a right time. Either theres not enough money or not enough time it never seems I have both at the same time. Have one
  23. He's going to be a very big bird he's the size of 2 african greys already almost. He's beautiful. he going to need an aviary for a cage and a big one at that. I'd love to have a Scarlet or a greenwing but I don't think My house is big enough. Its only 1500 square ft not enough room for a huge Macaw to get a good flight going. Oh well The 2 big birds I have now are plenty to look after anyway. But I must say he going to be a beautiful bird when he grows up. I hope he gets a wonderful forever home with someone.
