1. I'm thinking about building a cage for my Congo. Does anyone have any ideas about what works and what doesn't? Materials, size, cleaning, and other ideas would be greatly appriciated. Thanks D.
2. I use Mega-ray lights for my reptiles, but I think they will do custom bulbs for birds that aren't as strong. However, you might want higher UV so you can place the bulb far enough away that your bird can't get to it.
3. Wow! How neat. I'm so glad so many folks already weigh their birds! I'm happy to help. I think it's cool to see everyone's birds weight.
4. I've always heard that a bird will try to hid illness as much as possible as a defence mechanism. Which is why I suppose so many experts say that a birds weight is a good way to help track health. I just thought I would share what I use to track my pets weight. Digital Food Scale-$30 I record all the data on Excel and get a nice little graph. I'm sure it's not the most accurate, but I will know if there is any drastic weight changes.
5. Doorknob, the Congo, was originally going to be named Dorian the Grey. But I was hung over one day and started calling him Doorknob and it stuck. Tatters, the Timneh, was a plucker when we bought him. My wife was on her way to get him and she was listening to that song....'I'm in shatters...', and so she named him Tatters.
6. Paper shredding is way I still use grates. However, after reading this post, I am considering not using grates or paper. The cage I have has a plastic tray that could easily be dumped and wash out in the tub. As long as I can be good about cleaning daily this might just work well for me. Thanks for posting this I think you might have been an inspriration for me! DBZ
7. This is me and Doorknob. I don't look real enthused because I just got home from work and I'm tired! But Doorknob is my buddy and is always happy to spend time with me.

Post edited by: DustyBZoo, at: 2009/03/08 09:36
8. Does anyone use UVB lighitng for your birds? I'm currently upgrading my light for my reptiles and I am looking into getting lighting for my birds. I'm interested in hearing any warnings, suggestions, or just tell me what you have had success with using. As Always Thanks In Advance for your help, Dusty B
9. I just wanted to say that I am very impressed with the kindness and knowledge displayed on these forums:) Even if I don't know the answer I'm smart enough to spot BS. I've been on other forums and not felt very encouraged. The people that make up this forum are very generous with their knowledge and benevolence. Thanks for being there! D.
10. I rubbed a little bit of cooking oil on him and that seemed to give him alot of relief. The oil gave him the ability to groom out some of the sticky stuff. After a day he looks fairly normal again. I was afraid this was going to be a big affair, however things seem to be going well. Thank you all very much! D.
11. thank you! So far I have heard mayo, peanut butter and the oils you describe. I will try the oils. D.
12. My little Timneh was flying around and ended up with flypaper stuck to his wing. The adhesive is non-toxic, however it is very sicky. Does anyone have any tips or advice? I would really appriciate it. D.
13. Rosenzahra wrote: Yes that is the one I have. I took the chains off and added my own toys. I like being able to roll it around the house. Also the there are two seperate parts(stand and playtop) that you can order seperately to replace as needed. I liked it because it is completly unfinished wood.
14. Beer! Particularly Newcastle. What is the worst thing your Grey has ever called you?
15. I really like the Acrobird playstand I got from Drs. Foster and Smith. If you check there website it is a wooden stand and runs about $100.
