1. I just love the name of your baby Grey so cute he is and what a whisler. has he started to talk yet. I have to share this with you I have 2 Greys one is 6 yrs old the other is 7 weeks old any way when I was watching your video my baby Grey Shady was listening so intently and all his tiny fethers on his head where standing straight up he looked so cute. You need to post some more of CJS my little one loves him:laugh:
2. just thought i'd mention that potatos should always be cooked first that also includes sweet potato I beleive.
3. Have you tried calling back to him mabie its a contact scream and he just want you to let him know your there mabie try a little whistle and see if he trys to answer back the same way. or try whispering to him when he's screaming he will have to be quiet to hear you. In the mean time you might try earplugs they work great. That story is cute they seem to be able to mimic the sillyest things don't they I hope you get well soon.

Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2009/03/24 20:16
4. When I was reading your thread it took me back to when I had my first child and he was about 7months old and starting to pull himself up to his feet anyway one day I walked into the bedroon and their was blood everywhere he had bang his nose on the crib trying to pull himself to his feet. I remember the panic I felt and I phoned my mom crying my head off and she said those exact same words to me. You can only do so much to protect them they are going to fall and get hurt sometimes and all you can do is pick them up and kiss it better. Parrots are very much like our children in allot of ways. I'm so sorry Emma got a bump on her head but your a good mom and like my mom said to me you can't protect them every minute of the day just be there to pick her up when she falls and kissit better. By the sound of thing Emma thought you need a kiss all better more than she did. what a sweet heart she is. Don't file her nails to much if their to smooth its harder to hold on. my vet doesn't like to dremal nails for that very reason.
5. I like it when Tyco does her sci-fi noise and I also love the way she goe woooohoooo when I take her blanket off in the morning. The noise I hate the most is the noise she make of the garbage Truck backing up its the most annoying loudest beep beep I've ever heard I totaly ignore her when she does it but she hears it every week so she is remined often about it.
6. I would say you have a good chance at getting a baby this year if she has that many pairs its up to her though It depends on weather she puts up the breading boxes for the pairs or not.
7. I wouldn't expect to much after all the bird doesn't know you and his mom is going to be right there if she Hand fed him they probubly have a very close bond and he may not want to come to you with her being right their and with you being a stranger. That said if he is only a year old then he is still very much a baby and will bond with you quite quickly once he is away from his mom. So if he try to bite you don't take it seriously its just because him human mom is right there. Good luck and I hope everything works out better for if he was handfed by this person they have a very close bond and there is a good chance that hewon't be that excepting of you if his mama is there He is only a year old so he will bond to you quite quickly once you are the only person around taking care of him. Please don't be discouraged if he doesn't take to you imediatly.
8. I guess he wants to do what come naturaly to birds. Birds where meant to fly and they will always try even when they are clipped. If he's clipped he probubly will give up in a few days. Then try again in another few weeks.
9. I'm glad to hear your baby is doing so well when you where at the vet did you ask to get your baby dna tested. Shady's going to the Vet on wedensday and I'm getting the Dna done then also, I can't beleive how fast shady is growing so I know how you feel about how fast your baby is getting big. Shady weighed 420 gr when I got him/her and S/he's already 475 gr. its only been a week and a half and shady looks twice the size now than when I got him/her. They certinly don't stay little very long if Shady keeps growing like this he/she is going to be one very large Grey. Good luck with the potty training and have lots of fun with that little sweetheart of yours.
10. Mabie he's just feeling a little insecure and need a bit of reasurance or mabie he's testing you to see if your going to let him get away with it or not they are very much like human children that way. When its time for bed you have to be firm because you know whats best for him. So tuk him in give him a good night kiss and a scritch tell him you love him and cover him up. he will soon know when his bed time is and go willingly if you keep the same time and and rotine every night. When its bed Time at my hous I say okay sweeties its bedtim get into your house and all the bird stop what there doing and toddle of into their cages its very cut to watch all the bird scurry into bed and wait by their cage doors for their kisses and scritches.Tyco likes to stall a little she go into her hous alright but when its her turn to get tucked in she will do anything to keep me longer at her cage then any one else does she play tug o war with th blanket or she will reach through the bars with her foot and grab my finger and won't let go. She is such a little brat sometimes I can't help but love her.
11. Thanks girls I called th vet today yo make an appointment for Shady for his/her checkup and dna test Shady has an appointment at 12:30pm pacific time on Wedensday. I asked the vet if it was ok about eating the pellets while I was on the phone and he said exactly the same thing. that it was good practice and will help with the weaning transistion later on. thanks anyway. Shady just loves crunching up those pellets I guess they taste good and because there Zupreem fruity pellts the different colours attract him/her.

Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2009/03/24 01:42
12. That is such a cute video I love it when they play like that. Tycos boing has a bell on the end of it and she likes to hang upside down and attack that bell vicously. Some time she scares the heck out of me because she's haveing such a good time and will all of a sudd forget to hang on and falls thank goodness the floor is carpeted under the news papers around her boing or I'm sure she would have hurt hersel many times. I thought about taking her boing down for awhile but she just loves it so I guess as long as she doesn't mind falling I let her have it least she has a soft landing.
13. Oh poor ZZero I would not wish that on any bird. I would have been worried sick. I'm so glad that everything is okay now. I will be making sure I don't wear anything with zipper when I'm handleing my birds from now on. I would be sleeping right beside him all night as well your a good mama.
14. I was feeding the cockateils yesterday and shady was out watching me. He like all the coloured zupreem fruity cockateil size pellets and he started eating them I don't know if he was actually swallowing them or just chewwing them up and spitting them out but since he liked them so much I was thinking I might put some in his cage I know he should start with soft foods but he really loves chewing in the little pellets do you think it would be okay to put some in his cage for him to munch and crunch he's only 61/2 weeks old

Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2009/03/23 19:23
15. I think thats would be a great Idea definatly I don't see why even a regular baby stroller wouldn't work as long as the travel cage would fit in it go for it I bet you baby would love an outing.
16. I've seen that ad many times on the web over the years and it is definatly a scam. I think the Hy's are the most magnificant bird in the world next to the Bald Eagle but both birds are way way to much bird for me. Lovley to look at but would never want to own one unless I was a multi million aire and could buy a dozen or so pairs for breeding so they could be returned back to the wild for the next generation to enjoy other than that I'll stick to my Grey's and other mid to small size birds. They keep me plenty happy.
17. A 1 year old grey is still a very young bird a they are baby's for at least 2 years and don't mature until around 5 or 6 so I would say this one year old Grey would be a great bird very adaptable to a new owner still. Do go and see the bird first though because there are allot of scammers out there. don't part with any money until you have seen the bird for yourself. I just got a new baby grey and I also rescued an older bird a while back I have quite a bit of bird experiance as I have rescued a number of birds over the years. It really depends on the older bird that you are adopting if the bird has had a loving home and has never been abuse there is a good chance that he will adapt to a new owner quite easily but if the older bird has been passed around from home to home and been neglected and abused then that bird is going to have allot of trust issues and it take a special kind of person to be able to deal with them and help them to overcome their past. that why its always good to meat the bird and see what kind of home it comes from ask lots of questions like have they been the bird only home and things like is the bird a one person bird. is it friendly how many hour of out of cage time does he get what does he eat how much sleep does he get these are all things that you need to know so you can detemine weather or not the bird comes from a loveing home if it does then chances are it will adapt more easily. that said I hope you find the right bird for you and ask as many questions as needed we will help all we can
18. I just saw your other post and ask all the question that you answered here in the welcome room I guess I should have come hee first. welcome again and I'm so glad that you are enjoying Rita it sound like she has taken a real shine to you already she must have had a wonderful home to be so trusting of new people.
19. Hi there and welcome to our little comunity of Grey lovers. Thats great that you took in an older Grey I did the same thing about a year and a half ago My birds name is Tyco she is 6 years old now. I have rescued a few birds over the years and also bought a few baby's too. I just got a new baby last sunday I called her/him Shady Grey and I'm still handfeeding shady s/he is 6 weeks old now. I'm looking forward to hearing all about you and your new Grey is she friendly or does she have a few trust issues. please post some pics when you get a chance.
20. I Have never seen a bird that actually sit down on his bum like a human s/he uses his/her wings to balance and sits down and watches everything thats goin on. Shady looks so funny sitting like that and s/he does it all the time
21. Oh that is the cruelest thing I've ever heard what kind of pet store is this That the would pluck out all those feathers. Even when a vet has to pull out feathers because theres some kind of problem and more than 3 feather and they put the bird under anistetic so it doesn't go through to much pain. I would not take my birds anywhere near that pet store.
22. Ah that is so good he's a very handsome grey I might add. sounds like your going to have a wonderful time with your baby. Thats so great.
23. If he is getting 2 of these biscuits every day why don't you try breaking them in 1/2 to start and giving him them the same but in a smaller size so he actually only getting 1 a day instead of 2 there are some thing Igive Tyco that aren't the best also but I do try to keep it to a minumum Tyco loves Ganola bars and would eat a whole one in a day if I let her but she only gets a 1/2 inch peice every other day. I think everything in moderation is ok as long as its not Toxic to the bird. We all lke to treat our birds to something special now and then and as long as its not exccesive it won't hurt them. I would love to see a picture of Ozzy when you get a chance. I bet he's one special bird he sounds like a real sweetheart. I'm glad you got him a bigger cage your a good Parront
24. Well Now that Shady knows s/he can get out of the box there is no way to stop her/him if in the mood to play and explore I have never seen so much determination in a little baby I had her/him out on my bed and he/she spotted the light flashing on my computer well shady had to check out that light no matter what climbing over everything in his/her path to get to it. what fun to watch but I can tell I'm going to have to keep a very close eye on this little one. S/he going to a ball of feathered trouble I can tell already. I put her/him in my travel cage for now. I'll have to go out to the shed and get something a bit bigger later on today but for now Shadys in a 18"x17"x24"tall It will do till I go dig the other little bigger cage up for him/her. The one in the shed is 27"wide 22"deep and 27" tall its a Conure size cage but it will do until Shady Grey is old enough for his/her full size cage. The Conure size cage will still fit beside my bed so I can hear him/her if s/he has a problem

Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2009/03/23 00:13
