You could try a pad lock for the time being I used to have to lock Tycos Old cage with a pad lock because if I didn't she would escape and then open every other birds cage and throw all their full food dishe across the room I would come home and think that there was a earthquake or some other type of disaster just at my house. Her new cage is escape proof thank goodness The lock is a pin that slide into a hole in the top of the cage and down into the door frame when she's in her cage there is no way that she can reach that pin to pull it out. Who ever built this cage built it with a hodini bird in mind

I know aren't the so silly some times you just gotta laugh.

my gal just loves chicken as soon as she smells it cooking she starts saying yum yum chicken there ya go want some chicken yummy for the tummy over and over until she gets some:laugh:

YUk there's no way you could even get me to brig a bug into my house let alone feed one to one of my beloved birds. My daughter had a tree frog once and she fed it crickets one day she put a few too many in the cage and the crickets ate the tree frog gross stuff no way I'm taing any chances with my precious babíes I have a rodent repeller and it also keeps bugs away no bugs in my house I don't like bugs with the exception of some spiders I don't like wolf spiders but I do like garden spiders I had one that live in the corner of my kitchen window for one summer and I never saw a fly all that year he was a great little fly catcher and it was great fun to watch him catch a fly and eat it LOL very interesting stuff

I would not put them together until you know how they will react to each other a sunconure could easily kill you cocateil they have larger beaks and one well placed bite on the back of the neck and you cocateil will be no more. I have two conure and they do get along with My cocateil but they didn't at first it took about a month before they excepted him as a flock member. I'm very lucky because all my birds seem to get along okay none of them fight with each other I just got a IRN and he is still adjusting but the birds don't seem to mind him and that a good sign.

Thanks I didn't think they needed grit so I told her not to give him any I told her as long as she feeds him good stuff like the Zupreem fruity pellets and the seed mix I gave her and mabie a peice of apple and some romaine lettace and mabie grate some carrots up for him he sould be fine. I also told her if her mom buy's the organic baby greens mix for salads she could give him some or that she could come over to my house and I will give her a little bag of it to take home for him. I always have it in the house for my birds the baby green and the Italian baby greens seems to be my birds favorite salad I also told her if her mom makes scrambled eggs she could mash up a 1/2 a teasoon or so for him but no more than that and only once a week or so. My kids had budgies when they where young and Tommy my oldest daughters budgie lived 12 years she took that bird everywhere with her he was the best little budgie he would go to anyone and just loved to be with people they really are great little companions and they seem to really identify with children.

Its kinda like leaving you child with a babysitter for the first time isn't it mabie you could phone home a couple times and someone can put the phone on speaker so you can talk to her that way she won't miss you so much

What a cute little guy you have there makes me want a baby so bad but I have to keep telling myself no more birds. I have six birds and I'm at my limit its all I can do to give each one of them a hour of one on one attention everyday most of my birds just help them selves and fly over when they want to spend time with me Thank goodness they are all friends with each other or I would be in big trouble because sometimes I have one on each shoulder and one on each arm all at the same time Its good though cause it get quality time done with fairly quickly then I have more time to spend with Tyco she needs lots of quality time and she is very demanding about it. I think she'll be fine as long as you have someone to come in and feed her everyday mabie you could get a timer to turn on and off a radio for her so she has company of sorts or the tv mabie. Or you could always get a travel cage and take her with you:laugh:

If I put my birds in front of an open screened shaded window will they get enough uv rays to be healthy if I do this everyday?

What a pretty Grey How old is he must be still very young he's still has a lot of grey on the underside of his tail but I love his colouring he's almost silver rather than Grey very nice photo

It seems to me that it doesn't matter if the greys are little men or little women they all want to wear the pants in their familys Tyco's the same way she has me waiting on her hand and foot all day long and if I don't do it fast enough for her likeing or I say just a minute she will say NOW get it now!! she talks to her toys also the other day she was trying to balance on her nut ball and it kept moveing and she would yell at it and say no don't don't don't finally she got on top of it and she was so proud she says look look I get such a kick out of her and she's just to smart its almost scary how smart they are. :laugh:

mine like all kinds I buy the variaty pack they love apple and cinnimon thats their fav I try to give them differnt thind for breakfast sometimes eggs or french toast on multi grain bread oran omlette with a variaty of differnt veggies init like redpeppers and chopped broccoli with a little cheese sometimes if i have left over cooked yams i will mash them up and mix it in with the eggs as well and some morming they just get a bowl of fruit with a peice of multi grain toast with peanut butter it doesn't matter as long as they get something healthy to start their day

Thats great news its just amazing what a little time and patients will do. I'm so glad he's taming down so well for you It really hasn't been very long and He's already hanging out on your shoulder and letting you give him scritches. He must be a real sweet heart under that I'm a big tough bird persona :laugh: Tyco My Grey liked to play to big mean tough bird when I got her she really tryed to intimadate me but I saw another side of her and just knew it was a big act. Now she doesn't even try that tough stuff with me anymore I think she secretly likes all the attention and scritches she gets when she's nice, because she being nice a whole lot more lately and constantly wants me to come over and play with her when she's playing with her foot toys. I taught her a few colours so now when she wants me to play she will pick up a block and say yellow or red so thats my cue to come over and say thats right what a smart girl you are yeah for Tyco and then of course we spend the next 15 minutes or so going through all the stuff she knows over and over. LOL Thats my girl Have fun with you new little guy I'm sure he's just loving the attention he getting also

The thread thats there about my Amazon Fergie is a good one you half to get the oil off your bird one you get the fly paper glue off Dawn dishwashing liquid is the best for this because its gentle and non toxic they use it on wild bird when they get covered in oil from oil spills. If you don't wash the oil out it will cause big health problem and plus all they cannot digest all that oil in their systms so please don't forget to wash the oil off after you get the flypaper off

Have you ever heard of so ugly thier cute well thats the way those little guys look to me the are soooo cute

when you buy the toys if they come wraped read the lable most will say if they are nickle coated or not other wise I don't know if you should be concearned or not I guess it depends on weather or not your bird actually are mouthing on the chains or not

Good Idea It will probubly be a greay place for the birds to hang out. I just love the imagination that it takes to come up with the Ideas to please our birds we will do just about anything for them don't you think

I can't put a harness on my Grey yet she is a rescue but she's coming around to my way of thinking pretty fast now so mabie we will give it a go in the near future anyway welcome to the flock pull up a perch and make yourself at home:laugh:

I haven't had budgies for allot of years since my girls where little and they are now grown with kids of their own. I know years ago everyone fed their bird grit or gravel my question is Do budgies need grit or if you feed them like you would other birds can they do without it ? I bought a Budgie for a little girls birthday and want to make sure I tell her how to look after it properly Thanks in advance
