I also have a plant and tree list and red maple is definatly toxic to birds regular maple is fine but I don't even use that for my birds even though I have a huge maple tree in my yard. its so big my husband built a tree house in it for my daughter and a tire swing its massive but all the branches are high and I'm to chicken to go up there to get them I don't like heights.

My Cocateil kept breaking all his tail feathers he's down to one long feather on his tail. the rest are starting to come in now but I didn't want him to keep breaking them so I gave him a new cage yesterday and it huge compared to the one he was in the other one was a love bird cage but he was only 4 weeks old when I got him so I didn't want to put him in to big of a cage back then. Now I put him. in a cage that is 22x22 and he seems to be scared to move but it was the only cage I had left with 1/2 inch bar spacing it is a castiron parrot cage with a dome top and it does have vertical bars on each side so he should be able to climb he just looks so small and helpless in there. I hope he will adjust to it right now he's just sitting there not moving and has been since I put him in there yesterday.

That looks great and a very good Idea with summer here and the spegetti strap shirts it will help the birds to hang on. I don't let Tyco on my shoulder because I can't trust her that way yet but my Amazon and all the little birds love to hang out on my shoulder and that would be perfect I need one for my arm as well

Oh you poor thing I feel for you I would have the vet take a bloodtest while your there mabie she is getting rundown and need somthing to help her get her strength back if she is losing blood all the time. she may be getting a little enimic a vitiaman supplement may be in order I would at least talk to the vet about her drop in appetite while you are there. Do you think she may be bleeing from the spot where the he pulld the feather yesterday mabie it just needs re packing

Greys need 10 to 12 hours of totaly undisterbed sleep to be happy mabie you should think about covering his cage at night so he can sleep without getting woken up all the time just a sugestion. All my birds get covered at 8pm except on the nights that I have to work and then they have to wait til I get home at 1130pm but there is nobody home to disturb them and before I go to work I turn off all the lights so as soon as the sun goes down they have complete darkness and quiet. I only work 3 nights a week so most nights I'm home to tuck them in at 8pm. onthe nights that I work I keep their cages covered for an extra hour in the morning just to make up for the disturbance of covering them at midnight.

Hi I to want to say what a wonderful thing you have done by taking on someone elses mistakes. I also rescue abused and neglected birds and find it very rewarding. Tyco my rescue doesn't play with her hanging toys either she does like the free stoff that I find laying around the house. the only hanging toy's that she really likes is her boing ,her bell and her swing all the others sit\ there and collect dust. she loves thing that make noise like baby rattles and things that spin so thats what I buy her or I just give stuff she can pick up and chew that I find laying around the house she loves things like that forbiden fruit sort of like old seed cups she love to chew and toss around as she also likes to dump all food cup out since the ones I give her with food in them are locked down she love the others I give her as toys. It sounds like your Grey is responding to you well in other ways I sure she will soon adapt to her toys also. she

I think that weaning is up to the bird mostly they wean themselves some sooner than others it just depend on the bird really if he still wants to be hand fed then he's not ready to wean yet.

I just bought a big brass bell for each of my bird they could try to get the ringer out but I doubt very must if they could I tested it first and if I can't do it with a pair of plyers and all my strength they sure aren't going to be able to but boy has it ever been loud around here for the last couple of days:laugh: :woohoo:

What a horrible thing to do to a sweet M2 cocatoos are the sweetest cuddleiest birds I know why would anyone want to hurt them I just don't get it but then I don't understand why anybody would hurt any animal I love all animals and would never do anything to urt one thats for sure. Your baby is just the cutest little thing make you want to just scoop them up and kiss them all over. I just love those baby dark eyes make they make me just fall in love sooooo sweeet

Its good excersize for them if they can't fly at least they can pretend. I wish Tyco would do more wing flapping but I don't think Tyco was ever permited to fledge when she was a baby because she doesn't know how to fly. I keep hoping that she will learn to fly from my other birds and from watching the wild birds outside.
-
I think its just about time to clip a few flight feathers. Fergie is thing she can do what ever she wants she flies up onto my Kitchen cabnets and chews the natural wood trim that is everywhere in my house. The when I get up there to get her she fly's to yhe other side of the kitchen finally I tell her no in a very firm voice and say go back to your house and she goes until I sit down to relax again and then off she fly's again to get into something else she's not suppose too. birds they are like having baby's around always getting into trouble so tomorrow she going to the vet I would clip her myself but I have noone to help me so I ts the Vets office she could probubly use a check up anyway. I don't really think there is anything wrong with her though she very active and gets a ton of excersize flying all over my house, but like the say an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. And right now getting her wings clipped is going to prevent me getting anymore headaches from chasing her around the house. lol

Even though Tyco was a rescue and 4 years old when I got her she definatly picked me from the first time she saw me she streached her neck toward me and paced back and forth trying very hard to get to me and wanting out of her cage so she could be with me and this happened all three visits before I took her home with me so even a rescue can choose their owners

she is so cute what a little muffin

Good morning Andaya and mom

I don't know about antidepressents and birds but if its basicly for plucking birds and yours isn't pluking just breaking feathers I would say see if she grows out of it wait until she has completly molted and all feathers are replaced mabie the next ones that come in will be stronger and she won't damage them as often
-
I would say she looks like she's having a great time I bet she thinks noone can see her at all cute picture they are so funny sometimes
-
if she has a calsium deficancy there are lots of things you can do to help her get enough scrape cuddlebone on her food when you give her scrambled eggs crush the shells in with them also make sure she gets a little natural sunlight 20 minates a week at least and do take her back if she not well let her eat what she wants for now most birds love scrambled egg why don't you try some with the crushed eggshells in there it might help her mabie even a little peice of cheese also
-
I just use regular large size finger nail clippers on my birds and if you cover the birds head so he can't see who's cutting his nails and then scold the towel afterward for hurting him he will place the blame on the towel and not you I know this sounds funny but it works for my birds.
-
Your bird won't go bald don't worry they don't lose all their feathers at once they will lose one and the matching one on the otherside and so it goes until all the feather evetually are replaced it takes anywhere from 3 to 5 months to lose all their feathers my birds are molting also right now but its not like last year this year they are only losing a few last year Fergie lost most of her feather on her head neck back and wings this year its just a few around the neck and chest and she got new flights as she was cliped last year but she's fully flighted now.
-
Pictures please I love new babies and yours sounds like he been very well socialized by his breeder what did you name him or her is s/he dna tested.
-
I usually take the birds outside early in the day before it gets to hot and I sit right with them so I can watch if the get to hot but I think we will wait until 2 pm by that time of day the sundeck is pretty much completely shaded and I'll give them their bath before I take them out and then the can dry off and be cool at the same time. Tyco is only starting to enjoy her time out side so she only get 15 minutes a day out there she's still a bit to nervous for anything longer.
-
I have a cocateil and a Amazon in the same room with my Grey it doesn't stop her from talking up a storm.
-
I like to put the birds outside for a hour or so in the nice weather to enjoy and to reap the benifits if I cover half the cage with a towel so they have some shade and make sure they have water to drink do you think that an hour is to long out there in 90 degree weather I worry that they might over heat
