1. I know all about humidity we've been haveing a few summer storms here for the last day or two and its hot and humid and hard to even breath I hate is when it so humid at least when it hot and dry it doesn't feel as hot but when its humid its like been in a saunna all day lond That what you get when you live in a natural rain forest I do love it here though and would never live any where else
2. African grey's don't wean until they are at least 3 months old how old is your Grey. Weather or not the bird has a band doesn't have any thing to do with the price of the bird. Be thankful that he doesn't have a band if he did he may getit caught on someting and hurt himself my Grey and my Amazon don't have bands and if they did I would have them removed. I have 2 bird that have rings and I worry all the time about the My Fiery shouldered conure is a very rare bird and she has one she is alreasy missing part of a toe and another toe has on toenail so she's 11 yrs old. little things have happened I just pray nothing else will in the next few years she's getting older now they only have a life span of 20 to 25 years be happy he doesn't have a ring if you need to Id your bird I suggest micro chipping I'm going to get all my birds micro chipped as soon as the have the gps chip available to the public and then I cut those stupid rings off their legs

4. I would make sure hat their cages are not to close together a Grey could really hurt your Quaker when I first got my Grey he bit the top mandable off my Green cheeked conure and I know someone else that had the same thing happen to their quacker when your out make sure that their cages are far enough apart that the Grey cannot reach through the bars and bite the other bird thats what happen to my bird he was in his cage and my Grey reached in and grabd his beak no more beak please introduce them from at least 10 feet away from each other don't put them to close together they will get to know each other and become flock members in their own time it takes a bit everytime I get a new bird I have to be carful for awhile then everything is ok again but at first my birds are jealous of the new bird so then I have to make sure I do everything for my old bird first and then the new bird it called the pecking order if you don't do everything in that order your Grey may never except the new bird I have six birds and they all get along pretty well they can all have out of cage time together and nobody trys to hurt anybody but I do everythin in the order I got the birds so nobody feel left out or neglected everyone knows their place in the flock.
5. I know how that is although I control my erges these days every time I go get bird food I have to look in on all the birds that they have Some times its so hard to resist especally when you have a pocketbook ful of money. When I was there the other day to buy a budgie for the little girl that lives accross the street they had the most beautiful cherry head conure in there thank God I didn't go with very much money that day or I would have been coming home with that bird. they also had a Jenday that was very appealing.
6. where did you get your Grey from Just curious why he would have to fly trans continental 11 hrs is a long ways to bring a baby grey home
7. Tycos not afraid of much anymore but a couple weeks ago I had the propane company here to take away their huge propane tank the guy set up his truck right outside Tyco's window This truck had the big suport legs and a huge crane on it well Tyco saw it as a huge noisey monster with giant legs and a large arm with claws that was going to eat her any second now. she was so scared I had to close the blinds and let her come and sit next to me until it was gone and she was safe again I don't think I've ever seen a bird more terrified. She got over quick enough once it was gone though
8. my teil doesn't scream at all he does talk allot though its a constant pretty bird pretty pretty bird, whatcha doing pretty birdhello pretty pretty bird and so on but least he does it quietly. My very quyetest bird doesn't talk or scream and is the sweetest thing you ever want to know and she is a Fiery Sholdered conure. They are by far known as very quiet birds even the breeders love them because of their quietness
9. I think that you should just put him in the computer room for the time the work men are there to put him into a whole new enviroment 3 days before you go away for a week will be way to much stress for him to deal with he needs to be around his flock even if its in a different room he knows that room and is comfortable there. I think he would feel totally abandoned if you took him to your sisters and then left for a week right after that.
10. actually i think thats very smart of them they have us trained enough that we do that for them so they don't have too
11. Mabie if you took the time to teach him about philosophy and politics. and what its all about he could talk about it more. If you where locked in a house with no outside stimulation or education you would not be able to talk about these things either.
12. Thats great news have fun with your new family member can't wait for pics
13. I think that's a perfect name for a conure I have 2 conure and they are just the clowns of the bird world for sure. The thing I like best about Conures is that they may have a favorite person but when it come to getting attention they are not fussy who they get it from every one who has ever met my little green Sprout he's a (Green cheecked Conure) has fallin head over heals in love with him he will step up for anyone and let anone give him pets and scritches he is so playful they just have the biggest personality for such little birds. I just love my conure's they are great fun to have around.
14. Fergie isn't quite as smart as Tyco but she try's her best to make her needs know she comunicates in one or two word phrases where as Tyco is mor detailed in asking for what she want they both talk and both are very good comunicater's Tyco is only 5yrs old Fergie is 11 yrs old Fergie is more like a 2 or 3 year old child and Tyco is more like 5 or mabie even 6 year old so there is quite a difference Tyco is still learning things on a daily basis and Fergie takes allot longer now to learn something new but they are both my fids and I could love either one anymore than I already do they are both very differen and very special in their own ways Fergie is a real cuddle bunny and loves to be huged and held close Tyco like scritches but only on her terms usually at night before bed she likes about 10 minutes of actually letting me give her kisses and scritches on her neck face and head. Fergie on the other hand will cuddle when ever i want her too she just a very affecionate bird. they are both rescued from bad situations but I;ve had Fergie for 8 years now and I've only had Tyco for almost a year. big difference. I wonder what Tyco will be like in 8 yrs

16. Fergie just loves to sit outside on the sundeck in her outside cage. To her it must be like going to the movies because every time I put her out there she says Popcorn Please:laugh: Then if I say sorry I don't have any popcorn she say ahhh I'm must say birds have to be the most entertaining pets there are I just don't understand how everyone doesn't just love them to peices.
17. I have a 12 yr old daughter but she is afraid of the bigger birds with good reason she was attacked continuously by a cocatoo so she avoid the larger birds. I must say though it has not made her dislike birds at all in fact she goes out of her way to make sure she plays with my smaller birds everyday they just love her because she actually teaches them how to play different game and such. I know that Tyco would just love to have her play with her also because she watches her interact with the little ones and actually will talk away and answer her when my daughter is talking to the other birds but My daughter won't even try with Tyco she is afraid of that big beak and doesn't want any more big bites from big birds. Mabie one day tyco will just join in and then she won't be afraid anymore I hope.
18. This morning around 7:30 am my daughter got up and was rumageing around in the kitchen and I guess Tyco thought it was me so I hear where are you? I didn't answer so a couple seconds later I hear MOM so this time I answered and said I'm here sweety then I hear oh thanks It just amazes me how so smart she is at 5 yrs old I can't wait to see what she's going to be like in a few years. she's going to be haveing full out conversations with me. I guess its because I'm always talking to her or talking to my daughter she's learning how to comunicate really well I just love it and her also

Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2008/08/17 23:42
19. I think what youu'll have to do is show her that there's somthing in there let her watch as you fill it then just before you give it to her shake it so she know that what you put in there is still there and after that it up to her to get it out how ever she can
20. I think he's just abit overwelmed and a little afraid he's lost his flock and the screaming is his way of trying to call to them Once he realizes that they are not comeing back he will settle down and start excepting you as his new flock it may take a wek or two but I'm sure with time and patiants he will be that loveing bird that landed on your doorstep

23. where I live we have natural spring water coming through our taps and once every couple years we get a notice that they will be putting a little clorine through the pipes to clean up the pipes I still filter my water even though we have pure water in fact the water that comes through our pipes people buy eveyday in the store they started marketing it when water started being sold so I really don't think I have much to worry about we get nothing but pure spring water its wonderful
24. Tyco is getting more like a human everyday this morning like every morning my neighbour lets her little yappy pomeranian out. This dog barks no stop and wakes everyone up. This morning Tyco woke up and she says No barking in a stern voice and then a coule seconds later when the dog didn't listen there was a sigh in her voice and she said o'boy it was so cute I just had to laugh
25. In every way a Grey is like haveing a human they live on love so you find a way to get them the things they need you don't put a cost on your child or add up what you spend on them you go get the things they need because you love them and want them to be happy cost breakdown for me isn't possible because if they need it I go get it. and when I out if I happen to have a few extra bucks that day I'll I will buy them something new. My Grey is reletivly fairly cheap to buy toys for because she doesn't realy like her hanging wood toys she would rather chew on somthing she can hold like a tree branch she loves foot toys so I buy her cheap things from the dollar store she does break them but they only cost a buck I make most big things like playstands and swings I buy 2 inck cotten rope and tie knots in it and hang it from the ceiling and stuff like that I buy very few wooden parrot toys which are so expensive I have a few but I can make the same thing for a dollar or two Ijst can't justifiy the cost when she would rather chew a branch from one of my many bird safe trees the store bought one's she pays very little attention too. I did get her a boing because the birds do love them and they cost a bit for a big one but they last a very long time my biggest cost is her annual vet check up and her food
