1. Im no help to you because I don't go away unless my birds can come also so most times its just for a week end camping trip. I guess if I had to be away for awhile I would probubly get afamily member to come and watch them if I could. and if that wasn't possible I would hire a birdsitter like the person that raised her I think would be a great option if nessesary.
2. I keep Adaya very close to me. We live in a wild bird reserve and although I love to look at all the different kinds of birds it can be a scary place for my baby's We have hundreds of hawks and Bald Eagles around. Even when she's on my shoulder there are times she snuggles up very close and kinda hides under my hair and when I look sure enough theres a hawk or Eagle circleing.
3. She's very pretty welcome to our family.
4. I love those pics the one your using as your avatar is my favorite. and of course babys always look like angels when there sleeping. the are very well socialized your going to have so much fun with them I can just see you laying on the couch with a babe in each arm and loving every minute of it. you'll even get used to being pooped on in no time:laugh:
5. goooood Question?????????{Characters-00020057}
6. What a sweety you'll be looking for the on/off switch in no time
7. She just wants more scritched and cuddled it just sounds to me like shes letting you know that shes ready for your relationship to go on to the bext step see what she does when you try cupping your hand gently over her back. I know some greys like to lay on their humans chest and be held and scritched and petted all at the same time. she is still very much a baby and this may be her way of saying cuddle me please.
8. I think if he's bringing up food and purring its his way of saying I love you in birdy language and you should feel very flattered.:)He's not old enough yet to want to breed they arn't totaly mature until 5or6 years old. So tell your baby that you love him too.

Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2009/05/13 18:47
9. I to am curious about this herbal remedy and how it works this could help allot of people on this forum if it works as well as your vet says it does
10. Thats great that her tail is coming i and she likes her new toys now that she's getting some natural sun that should help bring her calcium up to par. good news all around that is so nice to hear come back soon and keep us up to date
11. Try not to worry until you find out what the vet says about it and how easily it is spread to other birds mabie its not as bad as you think. I am sorry that she's coming into your home with these issues I was praying that she just had bad feathers. I like the name Cameo if thats what you decide on its a beautiful name for a beatiful girl. I hope the vet has something good to tell you soon.
12. Well it sounds to me like you got yourself a very wonderful new friend. Sam sounds like he couldn't be happier about his new home and new companion if he tried. You have done so well with him in such a short time and I glad to hear his diet has improved also. I won't tell anybody about Sams getting fed off a fork or spoon I have a Grey that is the same way if I want Tyco to try something new that I putting in her dish I have to first feed her a spoonful or a forkful then and only if she likes it will she go and eat it out of her dish. if I don't do it that way that food will sit there untouched. Its really nice that Sam likes to cuddle with you. My baby Adaya likes to cuddle and I just love it I wish I could do the same with Tyco she loves her neck and face scratched and rubbed and closes her eyes and really enjoys it but she's not a cuddler and I doubt I'd ever get the privilege of petting her down her back. but I count myself lucky to have her she's very special and shows me how much she loves me everyday. I have Adaya to cuddle and snuggle up to and pet down her back she is a sweet little baby that trust me and allows me to even lay her on her back in the palm of my hand I pet her and rub her face when she lays there and she closes her eyes and will almost fall asleep. I love being their mom I don't beleive that there is a better pet for lack of a better word than a African Grey Parrot and I feel very blessed to have the privlige of haveing 2 intrusted to my care. Your update is just wonderful and I know you are going to have many wonderful years with the Grey that has been intrusted to you.
13. Good advice Tom I've tamed down many bird in the bathroom and used the Iron fist method many times also it works really well. I've been working with a Severe Macaw for a few months that was cage bound with no human interaction for a least 4or5 years his owner developed an alergy to him after developing cancer and instead of rehomeing him right away she locked him away by himself. its been difficult but things are progressing slowly he has pretty much stopped trying to bite me and will allow me to give him scritches and such he won't step up from inside his cage and he still not big on coming out of his cage but Ive found a way to get him to come out and once he's out he will step up and then its off to the bathroom for training. lots of work and lots of patients but very rewarding when thing progress.

Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2009/05/13 04:11

15. Its going to take some work on your part and by the way it isn't true that females bond to men and male bond to females I have to females and both are bonded to me. and there are many members here that are females that have husbands and the birds are female and are bonded to the female. I was told that my bird was a mans bird when I got her and she is torally my bird now.she s new to your home she only doing what she knows. use a perch to step her up and take her to a nutural place away from her cage and spend time with her teach her new thing an give her treats She will soon understand that you are the peson she wants to be with why don't you try some clicker training that may help her to bond to you.
16. I guess the thing todo then is when Tyco gets tierd of playing with Adaya and goes in her cage then then I should interveen at that point and remove Adaya from the area. Adaya being only 14 weeks old doesn't know when to quit.
17. They are so nice when they are young like that. I have a baby right now also and I'm just loveing all the cuddles they are just so sweet I never want to leave her. In fact i very seldom do except when I have to go to work. if I have to go somewhere other than work I take her with me on her harness she loves going for car rides and walks around the neighbourhood I just love having her around. my other Grey isn't harrness train so I bought an adventure pack eventuly I will take them both with me everywhere but for right now I'm just trying to get my older bird used to the Adventure pack once thats done it will be outings for them both all the time.
18. Does anybody know how Wild Greys repramand their chicks? Tyco gets tierd of Adaya being a constant pest and she goes in her cage to get away from her for awhile. Adaya seems to know that she doesn't dare go into Tycos cage but she will continue to pester Tyco through the bars. eventually Tyco will have had enough and give her a little nip on her foot not enough to break skin or do damage of any kind but just enough to let Adaya know that she wants to be alone and to go away. I don't know if I should Tell Tyco no at this point or just take Adaya away because I'm not sure weather that just the way bird treat their little ones or if Tyco is being nasty.
19. I have uv lights for my birds which I do use in the winter months when the birds can't go out side. in the summertime I try to get them outside everyday that its sunny out sometimes if its really gloomy and grey outside i turn the uv lights one so its not so bla looking.
20. Your doing a wonderful job I found when Adaya was that age if I chopped up broccoli for her she would eat it all she loved it but chopped up quit fine she really liked the stock of the broccolli which has the most vitimins in it she still prefers the stock to the flower she likes to rip apart the flower but will eat the stock I actually noticed that most of my bird prefer the stock my Amazon won't touch broccolli if I leave the flower on but if I cut the stock length wise she chows down on it like theres no tomorrow they prefer the flower if its cooked. I want to see some pictures too I just love babybird picture and seeing how fast they grow.

Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2009/05/12 23:10
21. I bet your hearts were just racing I could just see both your faces scared to death and woried sick that your baby has hurt himself or worse boy do I know that feeling. I'm glad to hear your birds going to recover and you can always buy a bottle of hair dye for the grey hair your baby's going to cause hahahaha
22. What a beautiful baby you have there the pictures are just awesome I know just how much joy these little angels bring because I'm raising my little one as well she is about 14 weeks now and I've had her since she was 5weeks old I really don't know what I would do with out her she makes me so happy everyday its something new.
23. Yea I know just how that is I have a papilion and a shith-zu that do stuff like that all the time. My shith-zu will even eat oranges and she will jump threw hoops almost for a dill pickle I don't know how many dills she has stolen over the years silly dog.
24. It sounds like you and clyde have had a very good first week you did the right thing by ignoreing the bite and continuing had you not done that he would keep doing it because you let him get away with it. how are his feathers looking any better have you been spritzing him at all? does he get enough out of cage time he needs a minumum of four hours a day and at least an hour of that should be undivided one on one time his out of cage time should be where he can see you and be with you but doesn't have to be undevided attention greys need to feel they are part of the family they should never be place away from the people around them during their out of cage time. it sound like you and him are going to be very good friend in no time Clyde sound like a very well socialized Grey its kinda sad that he has lost his companion hopefully you can ease the pain for him a little bit.
25. I sing those songs to my birds as well Tyco can sing it perfectly with her name in it. and fergie learned her animal sounds with that song if I ask her what a duck says she say quack quack a chicken goes cluck cluck and a pig goes oink oink its so funny to listen to her. Tyco likes to sing old mcdonald when she thinks noone can hear her I laugh when she sings it sooooo cute
