1. He doesn't understand what you want him todo unless you use some kind of command like step up or upup or even come on lets go you could try giving him a little push with your hand just above his legs on his belly to knock himoff balance a bit and he may step up or you could also try the same thing behind him and he may backup onto your hand but definatly a verbel command works best.
2. Sometimes you have to try different ways of preparing thos veggies some like them cooked some like then mixed in birdy bread some like the cut up small or big or haning in their cage eventually he will eat a bird will notstarve himself to death if your really worrie give him a 1/4 cup of seeds and mix some pellets in with them he may eat them better this way. Try an omlette with brocoli and red peppers and alitte grated cheese my birds love it.
3. Go to www.photobucket.com open an account and upload your pictures there and then copy and paste the (img) code into your post when you submit your post the picture will be there
4. This is true to each his own but our Greys are very smart and can learn very quick if there is a barrier there or not even if that barrier is glass all it takes is a little reminder once in awhile I also have a sun room with many large windows init the ceiling isn't glass but the walls are pretty much and my birds have been taught from day one about the glass and ia week we do the same lesson just as a refresher. when they fly that room is the biggest to fly in and they know exactly when to turn and exactly where to land they will go as close as 2inches from the glass and then turn and fly the other way its amazing to me sometimes just how much control they have birds can be taught anything if the owners are willing to take the time. I had a cockateil many years ago when I was young and that bird would fly out my balcony window and go out 10 ft and fly back in again he new where he lived and which apartment out of all of them was his. I had him for 18 years he never flew away. birds can do and learn what is taught if your willing to teach them.
5. It depends what you mean by biten I have been bitten By Tyco but she has never drawen blood amazingly not with her beak at least her claws are a totaly differnt thing when she holds on she does it very tightly and my arms have poured blood because of it

8. well mabie I will get lucky with my baby then she and my 6 year old are quite close right now and I' worried that my baby will bond more to her tham me my older bird is definatly playing the part of mother bird to my baby even allowing her to climb up on her back to help her reach places she can't get to. With that said mabie my baby will reject her in a year or so and bond even more with me even though I hand raised her.
9. Yours are also very close to the same age there is 6yrs difference in the ages of my 2 thats a very big difference Tyco is old enough to be Adaya's mom and she's acting like Adaya's mom.
10. How old are your birds did Kea bond more to Rangi than to you or is Kea still cuddly and sweet with you as well as being bonded to Rangi I'm worried I may lose my sweet baby to a another African Grey. Even though I do spend time loving on Adaya and she loves to cuddle she really likes to be with Tyco also .
11. I wouldn't put what kind of bird on the posters I would just say found a lost bird that way when someone call you can ask what kind of bird they lost if they don't say an african grey then you know its not their bird also look for something about the bird that is a little different like a red feather where it not suposed to be of a white toe nail things like that.
12. welcome welcome Your going to be a grey't parront I can tell by the way you are posting that you are already in love with your bird. yes you 2 will be great friends and will spend many happy years together.
13. I'm so glad you decided not to clip your birds wings. I have a bird that someone clipped before she learned to fly she chewed of all her flight feather on one side for her first 4 yrs of life she was so off balance because of it she would fall like a rock on her keel bone constantly. When I got her she was 4yrs old. it has taken 2 years to get her to leave her flight feathers alone and for them all to grow back she now is fully flighted but she doesn't know how to fly I don't know if she will ever learn but I hope so. anyway welcome to the family and Please read through the many wonderful posts and do ask questions if we can help we will their are many very knowlegeable people on this forum with tuns of experiance. I think thats so cute that your little girl loves her new birdie. you will ahve to make sure she learns to shut the doors when she goes out in the yard to play. Your bird is still very young its a perfect time to harness train so she can go outside also.
14. You can make so Toys for him quit easily and inexpensive take some plastic shower curtain rings and make a chain in every third ring roll up a news paper and thread it through he will have a grey't time ripping it apart or fill some toilet paper rolls with a few treats and roll up the end hang a few on the sides of his cage and whatch him have fun getting to treats you can even go outside and get a branch off a bird safe tree put it in the oven for 20 at 250 degrees to kill anything init and hang that he will love chewing the bark off and then chewing the branch itself. I have a rescue and it took me 7 months before she allowed me to touch her try not to look at your bird straight on for awhile and don't aprouch his cage straight on either come in from an angle or zigzag he will soon learn you are not going to hurt him if he was abused he may look at you as a pretetor in which case you have to show him your not that is why you don't want to come straight on. sit with him and read to him try to teach him something like colors get a bunch of colored blocks and tell him witch color each one is and then ask him to touch the yellow one or the red one which ever the case may be. before you do anything for him tell him what it is your going todo like change his water, clean his cage put toys in his cage. he will soon come around to the understanding that your his friend. once that happens thing will progress nicely it just takes time patients and lots of love. welcome to the forum
15. Why don't you start a pole and see where it goes or just a thread to see whos greys do and whos grey don't get along I'd be curious to know the answer to that question also.
16. I Would say go ahead an drop that feeding I don't think he needs it as long as his crop is full and he's refusing it. make sure he's maintaning his weight and as long as he doesn't lose for 3 days then defatly cut out the feeding. My Adaya did it backwards also she cut her morning feeding first. Ihave her on a diferent sceduale then most though I use to feed her at 10am 4pm and 1130 pm because of my wor schedule becaus 4 days a week I work 5pm to 11pm so I fed her before work and then after I got home after she cut her morning feeding she would eat her 4 oclock feeding really well but then when I got home from work to feed her she started getting really picky about it and would only take around 10 mabie 20 cc. so that was the next to go. I still feed her her 4pm feeding she still eats that one pretty good soI guess she needs it. I wouldn't worry how backwards Willis is every babys different. Oh by the way my daughter just loves The name Willis when I told her that you named your bird Willis she squeeled with joy and said thats a totally awesome name I love it!! She's 13 and get very excited about the strangest things and the name Willis was one of those things
17. i have to agree that it is very reward to watch an abused and neglected parrot tranceform into a wonderful loving companion. But it is not a task for the faint of heart. but then again just owning any parrot is not for the faint of heart. it s a huge commitment and must be taken seriously I do think a person that adopts any bird should be very settled without to many unforseeable chnges in their lives and that usually doesn't happen until you are at least 35 4o years old. yes there are some that get there younger but not many.
18. Do you think that Tyco will help teach Adaya how to be a confident well ajusted Grey do you think she will take on the roll of a segagent mother so to speak? She does watch over her and even repramands her sometimes. She will also feed Adaya when Adaya is at her cage for any length of time. Do you think in time this will help Adaya confidence wise. Tyco actually will even allow Adaya to climb on her back so she can reach thing she's trying to get to. They are really fun to watch.

Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2009/05/04 00:53
19. Yes they do love their boings I have about 6 or so all over the house they have a blast flapping their wings and getting them swinging I have one or two away from everything and they really get those ones going because theres nothing to bump into so they get them spining and swinging really fast I'laugh so hard they have so much fun with them
20. It sounds like your doing a great job making sure everyone knows whos in charge keep up the good work and you'll have them following you around like puppys and worrying constantly that you are ok Its your job to keep them guessing.
21. I check and recheck everything I give my birds if i though for even a second that something was unsafe they would not be getting it. I make allot of my own toys and the supplys I buy are made in Canada or the Usa as far as shredding toys go I would rather hang a roll of unbeached paper towels or roll up a newspaper and put through links of a chain made of plastic shower curtain hooks the bird have just as much if not more fun shredding these kinds of toys and I Know My birds aren't going to wind up in the hospital of worse.
22. I have one of those birds that is now reluctant to learn to fly. Tyco is 6yrs old and was not permited to fledge it has take months of encouragement and helping her to get her to even try even though she has all of her flight feathers again. She will now fly short distances when she wants to vist with her Amazon friend but thats about it. I have only seen her fly a greater distance twice so I know she can she just doesn't very often and when she did do it she didn't land well so mabie thats why she's reluctant. how can I teach her I'm not a bird. I keep hoping that she will learn from my other birds but so far that has not happened mabie now that I have another Grey that she has really taken a likeing too she will want to fly more because her friend flys every where with any luck Tyco will someday also.
23. I adopted a very abused neglected bird in its 3rd home in 4 shourt years Its no wonder the poor bird csme with a ton of baggage and hated humans. It took me 7 months to prove to her I was different and that I could be trusted to not abandon of abuse her in any way. I've had her for 2 years now and she's a different bird now. She likes people again and she loves to show off. She likes to do things that she knows she's not allowed to do like eat the wood trim aoound my windows and ceiling and I'm sure she does it just to get my attention just to see if I still care enough about her to make her stop. she's so wonderful and sweet she has a great personality and a good sence of humor and I'm sure if any of the previous owners ever took the time to get to know her the way I do they would have never given her up. She is a ver happy confident Grey she's not afraid of anything except the camera. I guess I'll never know why. She's my baby now and I wouldn't give her up for anything. I'm sure if her previous owner saw her now he wouln't even recognise her she doesn't barber her feathers any more and she doesn't growl and lunge when you come within 5 ft of her cage. although she never everr did that with me she picked me from the start amazing how they know who's best for them.
24. Thats such a nice picture Noah is beautiful I love his name my grandsons name is Noah Glad I could help thanks for sharing.
25. I just want to ask if others that have 2 or more greys if they get along with each other I cannot beleive how fast Tyco accepted Adaya is this what normally happens when 2 Greys are put together or do they usually not get along at all
