1. Echo does look wonderful you've done a great job with him. I try to take Adaya out alot also she needs to be socialized and I don't get much company because I live in the middle of nowhere land. I love it because it so beautiful out here and lots of wildlife to see. but its just out of the way to much for people to come out. So I go to them and take Adaya with me she really seems to love the car she looks all around she doesn't miss a thing.I know what you mean about spoiling them its hard not to There are 11 toys in Adayas cage because its so big there is so much room for them. I have another box full waiting for her when she she gets tierd of the ones she has. her cage is so big she even has a boing in there. I like your new cage its great she must love the extra room and the price was right.

Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2009/04/23 17:51
2. Wow that does look like fun I think I'll buy a few and attach them together with some rope and make it big it looks like something you could make into a great place to play easily with a little imagination you could add toys foraging spots a bucket for foot toys. I look at somthing like that and see something really great thankyou for the tip

Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2009/04/23 17:28
3. Iam so so sorry for your loss this is going to be hard for you I know you have just lost your own precious baby. She will always be with you in your heart because she took up such a large space. Now there is a huge hole that is going to take time to heal. Don't worry about her things for now you will know when its time to take them down. you need to greive now. when you feel the time is right I hope you will get another Grey you have so much love for them and another Grey will never take her place but it may help fill the hole that was left behind. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this devistating time and I hopr you leaving us won't be permanent:(
4. Thankyou Jen and Judy Its just been 3 days so I will continue watching her weight. When I went to see if she wanted a night time feeding tonight I checked her crop and she defnatly had food in it and lots of it bit it wasn't Formula it was food her crop didn't feel mushy. So I put her on the scale just to see how much food was in there and it was about 15gr so I offered her a some formula and she eat about 20cc so I will keep doing this at night just in case she wants a little. Even my other birds like a little formula every now and then.
5. My Indian ring neck has decided that Adaya is fun to play with. He is just a baby also he was hatched last may 22 he's 11 months old. Him and Adaya have become great friends they hang out together in and on Adayas cage all day. I'll post some pics later I have to start getting ready for work now.
6. There are lots of veggetables that will give your bird calcium Broccoli is high in calcium and mot birds love it the stock is higher in calcium than the flower. you can also scrape cuddle bone onto their food to help. Grapes have magnisium that helps to motabolize the calsium or you can just take your bird outside twice a week for 15 minutes or for a few minutes everyday. I'm not sure putting stuff in their water is a good idea I know birds are lactose intolerant but a little grated cheese once a week will help give all the calcium they need.
7. Yes Adaya was raised on Zupreem also I started putting cockateil size Zupreem fruity pellets in her cage at that age she loved them.
8. Adaya is 12 almost 13 weeks old she eats her veggies and seeds and pellets she has been refuseing her hand feedings all of them it almost like she went from 3 feeding to no feeding in about 1 1/2 weeks during that week and a half she lost about 50 grams she also started flying allot and now she won't take any hand feedings at all and her weight has remained stable for about 3 days should I classify her weaned or should I continue to offer her formula?
9. My baby turned out great no problems no infection just perfect so far she's 12 weeks old now. so far so good touch wood LOL
10. My Amazon is 12 years old now and she also loves to sing she sings opera beautifully she likes old mcdonald had a farm and she does the duck quack quach here and there and the chicken. she likes to ask everyone are you a bird? then she says I'm abird lol Fergie is a real snugler when she wants to be and she definatly doesn't want to be left out of anything she follows me around like a flying puppy. She is sexually mature now and can be a handful when she's hormonal. she mad a huge hole in the wall behind my kitchen cabnets and chew the edges off most of the cupboards. she wants to nest and there is no stopping her she's very determined. whenshe's not hormonal she the best bird a person could ever want. Clipping their wings a little at hormonal time helps allot so I've found even though she won't talk to me for 3 days after it does keep her out of mischief.

New Ekkie!

I glad you got a call about the Elkie thats great news. I hope that everything goes ok with this bird and your husband The bird was raised by a female and may just prefer woman over men. My Amazon hates men and will bite them if she gets a chance yet with woman she is as gentle as a new born kitten she loves to snuggle and cuddle. But not with a man LOL
12. I put Adaya in a cage around that age because she started climbing. I had a cage that was 30X24x30inches high so if she did climb it wasn't to high. I took the Grate out and put a whole news paper down so all I had todo to clean it was take off a couple layers and it made it softer for her them I put a heating pad under one end with a babys recieving blanket so she had a nice warm place to sleep I partialy covered the cage to help keep the warmth in. If you want to I would put her in a cage if you have something not to big that would be great. I just read that you didn't have a smaller cage (duh) I think you could still do the same thing with a bigger cage do you have a heavy blanket to cover the top half of the cage so not to much heat escapes and so she won't climb to high because its dark up there.

Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2009/04/22 19:48
13. Ah you will have my prayers for a good outcome to all of this and I wish you all the luck in the world.
14. oh good I'd feel better if someone did. If she hit something really hard she could go into shock in which case she would need to be kept really quiet and really warm if she did go into shock it might be a good thing that no ones around at least it nice and quiet for her as for warmth as long as the air conditioner isn't running I'm sure she will be fine.
15. is there anyone you can call to check on him or can you mabie go home on your lunch hour. I Think I would be a little concerned if I were you.
16. Three of my birds where rescues and yes they all get along. I always clip a new bird when I bring them home and thn by the time their wings grow out they know the rotine and the other birds have gotten to know them and allowed them into the flock I always keep the pecking order first bird get searved first always. as long as you don't make a fuss they usually won't either just remember birds are empathic and pick up on your feelings so if your scared one birds going to hurt the other the bird will sence your fear and probubly will hurt the new bird. I often have half my flock on me at any given time I don't make a fuss so they don't either.
17. Thanks everyone I think she is pretty awesome myself. She was so good today I took her with me for a ride in the car. It as so hot I had to splash a little cool water on her just to cool her down she was getting to hot. but she was good anyway. She either sat on the seat beside me or on the headrest behind my seat she was so interested in everything outside nothing seemed to scare her. I had to go to the pharmacy and pick up a perscription for my daughter so I figured what the heck I mights well get her out and about so she can get a bit socialized. So I put the harness on and away we went I live about 30 miles from the pharmacy so we where out for about an hour. When we got home my neighbour was out enjoying the day so thats when I put Adaya down and took some photos while I talk to the neighbour for a few minutes The pictures turned out pretty good considering I took them with my Iphone.

Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2009/04/22 08:24

23. LMAO thats so funny I'm sure Tyco knows well over 200 words and phrases even Fergie my Amazon talks a blue streak they really are very clear and percise and saying things perfectly. Tyco is always butting in on my conversations. She speaks here mind quite approperitly on many different subjects she is 6 years old now I can't even imagine what she is going to be like in another 15 to 20 years.
24. Yes I know what you mean Adaya listens and bables and listens and babbles more it won't be long and they will be making all kinds of sounds
25. My birds espcialy Tyco loves the colour baby pink if I buy her toys and they're pink she can't wait to get her beak and talons on them she gets very excited. Most of my birds do not like the color red and if I'm wearing a red sweater they won't go near it. hope that helps I also found the like the colours yellow and orange.
