1. Happy hatch day Malibu have a very fun day hope mom buys you some fun new toys and bakes you a nice carrot cake with walnuts and raisens yum yum My birds love Hatchdays or gottcha days Its always a very speciel day for them with cake and everything I even wrap the gifts because they love to rip them open to see whats inside.
2. Thankyou for the meaning of his name ranaz if he sings half as well as my YCA I'll be happy My amazon can sing opera beautifully and she sing lots of other thing also. She actually can sing better than she can talk:laugh:
3. I really don't think that the sex of the bird has anything todo with talking. Tycos a female and has a huge vocabulary of well over 200 words and phrases not to mention her cognative ability when she buts into every one conversation. i think its got more todo with the parrot personality than the gender.
4. My birds get really loud first thing in the morning when they wake up so I allow it for about 5 minutes then I say ok guys thats enough knock it off and the minute I say that everybirdie is quiet they are so sweet I don't know how anyone can be more blessed than to have birds as companions they are really very special and they make me smile everyday.
5. I trully love to watch my birds fly and enjoy all that flying does for their confidence and happiness. But I did just get Fwrgies wings clipped I tried for 5 months to keep her off my kitchen cupboards and about two weeks ago I got up their to see what kind of damage she was doing because she kept chewwing up their any wa what I found wa a 2 ft long hole and going down the center of it was a large electrical wire that led straight to the fuse box. I was horrified I thought omg if she starts to chew through that wire she's a dead bird. So I took her to the Vet and had her wings clipped She didn't talk to me for 3 days when ever I approched her she turned her back. I thought for sure she didn't love me anymore. but she got over it and she can still fly from her cage to my bed so when I'm laying around she can come over for a cuddle. I will let her have her wings again I've now sealed the hole she made with metal so she can't chew through it but at that moment the fear I felt for her life was so intence.
6. I'm so happy that you diet change is going well. You can buy large bags of harrisons on line or usually most avian vets carry them in their offices good luck and I'm so happy you and Sherlock have a good easter.
7. I have a little stand like that the exact one you discribed I use it all the time its really handy I love it and so do my birds. and all my birds seem to sleep on their cement perches they really seem to like them. even Shady is starting to take to his as well.
8. Isn't it funny when they do animal impretions Fergie Quacks Like a duck tweets like a bird and clucks like a chicken I laugh so hard especialy her duck impretion its sooooo cute.
9. Gosh my biggest vacation was the day I picked up Shady 3 1/2 hours there and 4 hours back:laugh: I haven't even been on a camping trip for a good 5 years. If I can't take my birds I don't go.
10. Thats so great I really have to get me one of those for Tyco I don't think I'll ever be able to Harness train her and an adventure pack is the next best thing.
11. Linda I was thinking what is it that I do that makes all my birds excpt the others so well. and I think its because even when I'm giving one my undivided attention I don't forget about the others that are watching. if they are looking interested in what I'm doing then I'll say something to them like does that look like fun to you well mabie when it your turn to play with mom we'll see if you want to try this. and then I'll go back to the bird I'm playing with I try really hard not to leave any of them out ever and I think then they are more excepting of each other. Even when I am hand feeding shady If their watching I say want some and when I'm done feeding Shady I'll offer them whats left. I really think it helps them to be more excepting.
12. I did but the dna results aren't in the vet said it could take up to 3 weeks for the results.
13. The bird in the background is Gizmo my severe macaw
14. Shady is growing like crazy he weigh 490grs and is as sweet as can be. He is down to Two feedings a day and is eating his pellets seed and nut mix and tons of different kinds of fruits and veggies. He seems to et more veggies than fruit. He really like dark green leafy veggies broccoli carrots and snap peas oh yea I almost forgot he loves corn on the cob and beansprouts those two thins are usually the first things to dissappear out of the veggie dish. He loves to torment my two little dogs when they are trying to sleep he will sneak up and give them a little nip the dogs run so fast. he seems to have a fixation on Tyco and talks constantly to her. He also loves to snuggle up and sleep under my chin he's a real little love bug. I'm trying to introduce him to new playareas around the house now and all the bird seem to be very interested in the newcomer they seem to know its a baby and don't want to hurt it none of my birds have showen any aggretion towards him at all which is really nice I was a little worried at first. I almost forgot he loves my laptop and has manage to lose my backspace button the little bogger:laugh: I must say he is the joy of my life right now I've been really sick for the last two weeks with phnomoneia and he birngs a smile to my face everyday. hopefully this round of antibiotics will work the last round didn't its been 2 days on the new one and I am feeling way better I think I'll even go to work today Yeah. The pictures I took are of shady this morning playing on the boing in the dining room the one with food all over his face is corn on the cob this next picture is Shady in his baby cage perching The day I put him into his big cage.

Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2009/04/09 23:01
15. Good for you I did the same thing at about your age I believe. i started a new begining and graduated top in my class. I loved it so will you.
16. Shady has finaly started sleeping on a perch rather than lying down but I noticed that he still sleeps with both feet on the perch rather than lifting one leg. does anyone know how old they have to be before they lift their leg to sleep. Iknow that sick birds will perch with both feet down I'm just trying to figure out if I should be worried or if he's just to young to be able to balance on one leg yet. He's only been slepping on his perch for 2 days now.
17. Your grey sounds perfectly normal and happy and it sounds like she loves you as for pics Open a free account at www.photobucket.com download your pics there and copyand paste the (img)code into your post here and thats all there is to posting pics on this Forum.
18. Thats for sure Tyco loves to get in on every conversation she has to get her 2cents worth in and most of the time she says the right thing at the right time. Sometimes I wish she would just mind her bussiness. That wouldn't be Tyco then.
19. I would say that around 5 weeks you should be able to take him out for short visit times with you as long as you keep him warm in a towel or blanket. I got Shady at aroun 5 weeks and he was fine as long as I kept him warm a hot water bottle or heating pad might help to keep him warm while your holding him and giving him some love.I've never heard of that disinfectant so I can't comment on that.Wow thats a really young baby how long have you had him for?
20. Well I have a story my shady decided that he just loves my laptop and I just can't keep him away the little bogger ripped off my backspace button and I can't find it anywhere. mabie this will help you when you chanting I can't get a baby grey:laugh:
21. So how is Sherlock doing I trully hope she is back to her playful messy talkitive loving self again. I know how hard it is going to be to get her to eat whats good for her. they are so much like children and if they had their way they would eat nothing but junk food. I've found with my birds that if you make things that taste good they will eat it my birds love omlettes I pack them full of red peppers, choped broccoli, alittle grated carrot and cheese the birds don;t know its good for them they just enjoy it I also make french toast for them on 12 grain breadI mix a little sweet potato into the egg mixture this is also a favorite. You can make corn bread and grind up some zupreem fruity pellets in there Some time it takes a little ingenuity to get the good stuff into them but it is possible you just have to make them think the good stuff is what they really want. you can do it out smart tha baby of yours and get some good food into her everyday even if its just a little it will be enough to keep her healthy and happy good luck nd don't be a stranger
22. nice birds thanks for sharing them
23. You must have had an awesome breeder to have had her socialized so well She must really love on and handle the babies allot. I've been very lucky with good breeders over the years as well. Its nice to get a baby that wants to be loved and cuddle other than one that is afraid.
24. Isn't it just wonderful how sweet and cuddly they can be. Shady loves to cuddle up and laydowm on my chest and go to sleep or if Im on my side s/he will snuggle up next to me a sleep they are such little angels when they are young and so trusting of the person who takes care of them. I don't want to waste one moment of this baby stage with shady I just want to spend every minute of it with him/her. I know he will grow up and become more independent and won't need me very much any more so I intend to enjoy it while it lasts. we are starting harness training tomorrow. It won't be hard I put a towel over his head every time I feed him so he doesn't get so much food on his feathers so half the battle is done I can touch him all over so to put the harrness on should be easy its just a matter of how he's going to react to it once its on. The weather here has been so nice it would be nice to get him out side enjoying it. He doesn't really need a harrness yet he hasn't learned to fly but I think this is the perfect time to get him used to wearing one.

Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2009/04/09 07:18

Baby cage

hi It really depends on many thing the biggest being how much out of cage time will your bird have. I got sick a few years ago and couldn't work. and because I was home all day my birds cages where opened at 8am and stayed open until 8pm so at that time they didn't need a huge cage because all they did was sleep in it. Then I went back to work last year I decided that working night would be best because then my bird would only have to be locked in their cages for about 3 hours before bedtime I work 5pm til 11 pm 4 days a week but because they did have to be locked in their cages even though it was only for 3 hours they needed bigger cages so I went out and bought 3 of the biggest cages I could find they are Macaw cages I gave one to my Grey one to my Amazon and one to my Severe Macaw. their other cage where not that small but to me because my birds where used to having their freedom need something with allot more room Shady my new Grey is just a baby and hasn't learned how todo allot of anything yet as he is only 9weeks old so for now he is in a cage that is 34x28 x38 its not that small and would probubly due him for the rest of his life but I would feel bad because his cage isn't as big as my other birds cages so I will probubly get him a new one someday. It all depends on the ammount of time your Grey is going to be locked up. only you can decide how big it should be.
