I know right now your more concernd abou the bleeding as your afraid she is going to start bleeding and no one will be there to stop it if you are really concerned and do feel there is a chance that this could happen I would phone your vet and just ask what he sujests If he thinks those feathers should be pulled then it would be better for you to take her in and get them pulled by the vet it could cause her allot more trama and stress to have it done by your breeder or yourself you could lose what ever trust she has in you its better to let the proffetionals handle this type of situation thin to lose you best friend forever.

This afternoon all the birds where sitting either on their playtops or in their cages just chillin and I was watchin Shady and Tyco interacting wih each other it was so cute Shady was on a perch that he could get the best veiw of Tyco who was standing on her cage door. Shady was talking away to Tyco a mile a minute and Tyco couldn't take her eyes off Shady all of a sudden Tyco said no then shady kept babbling and then Tyco said don't then no don't It was so funny I really would like to know what Shady was saying to Tyco.

Carol you and your breeder must have a great relationship going on I went to her web site and I noticed on the home page that she has your name and that you are the proud new owner of baby Grey Ajari I didn't see any other bird owners name on her home page she must be really taken with all that love and careing you have for that little baby of yours.

It is not a requirement to own an african Grey to be part of this forum many of us here have other parrots that we love just as much as we love our greys. There are alot of Elkie owners also we have a room just for all those birds that are not African Greys its called other birds. So don't hesitate to stop in and ask any question you might have and I'm sure there is someone on this forum that will be able to help.

OMG I JUST GOT MY BABY CONGO!!
Tycos_mom replied to MrLourdes's topic in Welcome & Introduction Room
I don't know how I missed this thread Congrates on a safe trip for your new baby I hope your just as thrilled as can be. Aren't baby birds just the sweetest little things in the world. If your having 1/2 as much fun with yours as I'm haveing with mine your haveing the time of your life. They are so curious and I love the way they chatter away at you like your suppose to know exactly what they are trying to tell you. Its like haveing a baby human around again. Give that baby a hug and a kiss for me and have lots of fun enjoy her all you can they grow up way to fast. -
I bet he just wants to play with the kids and the kids run away so he turns that into a game of chase I think the kids should not run and mabie stand their ground and when he gets to them they should offer a treat to him as long as their gentle with him I don't see any reason they should not be able to interact with him if they show fear the parrot will sence it and bite because it sences fear but if the are gentle and not afraid there shouldn't be a problem tell you kids he's just a baby and they have nothing to fear but they have to be gentle and not scare him. tell them to use their indoor voices when they talk to the bird no screaming or yelling nothing that will cause the bird to be afraid. Teach them how to offer treats but not to many.

i totally agree with Dave i don't use aloe on my berds at all just pure spring water it works great

I'm so glad you got your baby home with you Was he not handled alot by the hand feeder he should love to come out and be with you he may just not know how to step up and doesn't understand what your trying to get him todo have you tried just picking him up and the practice out of his cage. I don't understand why a 6 month old baby would be afraid unless he hasn't been handled since he was weaned.

Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2009/04/08 18:46

please get yourself a cheap digiatal kitchen scale that weighs in gr or oz. yhis is your early warning that somethings wrong. I got one at Canadian tire for 30. you can pick them up at walmart or any other deptstore they aren't expensive but they are a very inportant part of owning a parrot. I am soooo happy Sherlock is home have you tryed Zupreem fruity pellets they ae the only pellets my birds will eat and my vet said Zupreem pellet are the best next to harrison. Your a very good mommy and please don't be mad at yourself for not knowing what sherlock should eat your correcting that now and thats the main thing. Its going to be a long hard road to change Sherloks diet but with patient and alot of eating with him he should do ok. Sounds like you have quite the sweetheart there she sounds like she was having a good time after she started feeling better.when you get a chance could you post a couple pictures of that little darling that scared the daylights out of all of us. talk to you later got to go feed my little baby I have 2 African Grey congos Tyco and Shady Grey Tyco is 6 yrs old and Shady is still being handfed s/he is 9 weeks old.

Sadie sure turned out beautiful So are you planning on breeding again next year.

That wonderful you must be on top of the world with joy. we need pics please.

I say that they both lose the cat loses the fight with the parrot then the bird loses it life because of the fight with the cat or at least gets very sick.

Its hard to say as their is a large differece in African Greys there are small framed birds and large famed birds the range at full size is 350 gr to 600gr so unless you know the size the baby bird is going to be its impossable to know what its sopposed to weigh at 4 weeks old. Did you just adopt a unweaned 4 week old baby? If you did I hope you have handfeeding expeiriance and if you don't please read through the handfeeding threads in the Nursery Your bird should be gaining weight everyday even if its just a little as long as it continues to gain I think its ok

Thank God she out of the woods and doing better I feed my birds fiesta also but they also get Zupreen fruity pellets eggs 2times a week, squash.sweetpotato, broccoli, romain lettce beet green, brownrice and 12beanmash which also has a ton of other veggies in it I have 2 birds that also won't eat pellets but the rest of their diet is enough to keep them healthy without the pellets but I wouldn't do any big changes right away either she needs to get her health back then you can slowly introduce new foods Its not an easy task to change their diet and you will be throwing allot of food away but just keep giving her new thins everyday eventually she will try them and like them eventually."I" don't think I prayed so hard for anything than I did for that little bird to be well again. Thank goodness she's responding well to treatment and please keep us updated on her progress.

I bought a very expensive Stainless steel set of pots and pan acouple years ago. you know those very nice logostina ones. I still use my cast Iron skillits that I've had since I left home many year ago. If I needed pots and pans though I would definatly grab those mabie I should grab a set and put it away mabie one of my kids will need a set for xmas you never know.

Try leaving the tv on childrens programing when your not home Tyco loves it she can sing the bestfriends song from barney the dinosaur all the way through. The kids show are colorful and repeatative so they are a good learning tool for kids and Parrots. If not the tv even a radio will help

I have a few of those see through Quick crocks I will try that S/he still spends most of the time on the bottom of her/his cage. The saucers were great when the grate wasn't there but she tends to try and perch on the side of the saucer now and when she does that of course it tips and there goes all the food down under the grate ukk ukk. I put the seeds in the holder so s/he might not find them but s/he had those scoped out right away the good stuff is the stuff she is haveing trouble with. thank goodness she is still haveing a few problems eating seeds and only eat a little bit then get frustrated and gives up

Oh my gosh he is so Cute he looks so much like my own little Shady grey. I really think I'm going to do this culture and sensetivity test. My vet did take a look at shady's Poop under the microscope and said everything looked good but thats all we did except for blood work now I'm worried thats 2 babies that this test caught before anything happened I think I'll make a vet appointment tomorrow an have that test done you just never know. I'd much rather be safe than sorry. how much was the test cost to get done just curious

Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2009/04/07 04:30

NO NEED YO YELL AT PEOPLE THAT IS NO WAY TO GET A POSITIVE RESPONCE. African Greys talk when their ready to talk and nothing that you do will change that fact. My grey has a hhuge vocabulary some never talk some only say a couple of words and phrases. Its just like some people they neve shut up others are quiet and reserved and talk very little. It doesn't make them any less speical as I'm sure you know Good luck I hope your bird learns to talk for you.

some are on th bottem his seeds and water are in the holder his pellet fruits and veggies are on the bottom.

Now that Shady is in a big bird cage I've put his food in big bird dishes rather than on saucers I did this because he keeps knocking over the saucers and all the food fals through the Grate but I've noticed that he's haveing a little trouble finding his food. do you think he will figure it out on his own I've tryed to show him but he doesn't quite get it I put my Irns cage right next to his because he is just a baby also I'm hoping he will learn from him what do you think. My Indian ring neck is just a year old the end of march.
