I have a 6 year old Rescue that has definatly done her share of biting me. Now that I've had her for a couple years she very seldom bites me anymore. we have a good relationship she likes her head scritches and kisses on her beak but she's not a cuddler and I doubt she ever will be. Thats not to say she has never cuddled with me. One night a friend was over and I had Tyco on my arm and she came a s close as possible to me and put her body and head up agaist my body I guess she was felling a little insecure and because she trust me it was her way of asking me to protect her.I don't think that your grey will all of a suddenturn into evil bird from hell jst because it gets older yes when its hormonal time he may not be able to control the emotions he's feeling atfirst but as the years go by this get easier for them because they know how to handle it better. My 12 year old Amazon gets better at handleing horomal time each year she still wants to nest constantly during at this time but shes not mean at all anymore. don't worry you and your bird will be fine just remember to check his body language during these times.

yes Judy that just from Tyco it doesn't seem to matter how many toys or Natural branches or wood blocks I get for that bird she just love the natural wood trim thats all around the house Oh well its easy enough to replace. she has kept it to just around her cage for now so its not to bad I guess she just can't help herself You shoug see what she done to the trim around the ceiling

Watch your money I left my purse open one day and one of my wonderful bird shredded a hundred dollar bill LOL It took me 6 hours to find all the serial numbers and tape them together so the bank would replace it for me. I put my purse in the closet with the door shut now The little bugger don't understand I need that money to keep them spoilt rotten. Welcome to the Grey family

Are you ready to adopt a pepetual 2 year old with the intelegence of a 5 or6 year old and it never gets older. a African Grey is very much the same as adopting a child if your not ready for that don't get one. I love my birds and worry about them constantly just like my kids only my birds don'tt grow up and move out. I don't like to go out because they have to be lock in their cages. and when I do I hurry as fast as possible so I can get back to them they need good nutritious foods like a child the would eat junk food if they had their way but like children the don't know whats good for them so it falls to you to make sure the eat right they need to have at least 10 hours of undisturbed sleep 12 hours is better. they get sick and have to goto the doctors that starts at around 60.00 and can go as high as thousands depending whats wrong. you are going to put you child to sleep just because it sick its the same with your bird. If you look after it the way its should be you may get lucky and it won't get sick to often. Them there is the obsesive chewing if you don't supply your parrot with enough to chew he will eat your house he may anyway mine do and they have lots of stuff they are allowed to chew on but they prefer all the wood trim in my house or the kitchen cabnets or even the walls. if you get a Grey you better have a good paying job they are not cheep to keep. I probubly make more money than the average person and I don't have a morgage my house is paid for but between my birds and my 13 year old daughter there isn't much left at the end of the month. Please think long and hard about this its a lifetime commitment and birds that get passed from home to home donot do well at all and they learn to hate humans because they can't depend on them.

Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2009/05/02 20:57

Wow Here I was checking the Other birds room to see which bird you decided on and here you are in the African Grey section yipppeee I'm so glad you decided on a Grey they are extreamly awesome birds. I love mine to bits both of them. Thats not to say I don't have other favorites also but The Grey is definatly way up there on the list. I've been very blessed with a few wonderful parrots and I wouldn't trade the experiance and companionship that we have for anything in this world. My birds are like my children and they get all the love and caring I can give You are giving a very speical gift to your children also to grow up with a wild animal that can give love and sense eveything you feel is a awesome gift. My children always had birds growing up and they will always love and repect them. They trully are more than just a pet.

Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2009/05/02 19:43

I like Sams cage it not huge but it looks comfy and as long as he gets lots of out of cage time which I'm sure he does its fine. I have huge cages for my birds and its probubly not nessesary they are out of their cages the whole time they're awake 9:am til 9:pm 7 days a week unless my daughter is going somewhere while I'm at work which isn't often. Theres very few places to go in no where land the closest store is 2 miles away.

I was going to call my baby either Amani or Adaya I couldn't decide so I flipped a coin and Adaya won but I do love the name Aamani spelt like this is for a Boy and it means life and health or the spring season Adaya which is what I named her means Gods Jewel

Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2009/05/02 19:03

Well Judy I guess its diet time for Tyco she has put on 25 gr no peanuts no nuts no sunflowerseeds until she's back to her normal weight. the little fatty bird has been pigging out.
-
Ilove snoball she sure is one famous parrot because of her danceing. I have a couple birds that like to dance but they are no where near as good as snowball

I Know what its like to have broken blood feathers and no other feathers for support when Tyco was growing her new flights she broke so many I thought for sure she would never have all her flights it has taken almost 2 years and allot of care to get them all in she was deprived a little from doing certain things for awhile like with her boing she loves it but she used to like to unhook it from the ceiling and the boing would crash to the ground along with her. so until I found a way to fix it she was not allowed to have it now she can't do that anymore I changed the hook to an eye so she can play. but I don't know how many feathers she broke on that thing. I'm so glad she's finally got them all and I must say she's a very confident grey since she's had them she still doesn't like the camera but she's not afraid of much she accepts any new toy imediatly. I'm hoping she will help me teach Adaya how to be a confident Grey I'm so glad Tyco likes her so much. I'm trully blessed with all my birds getting along so well I hear about others have trouble that way. I guess I just got lucky with a bunch of social birds(butterflys)lol

I'd probubly forget to take them off and go out shopping or something and everyone would be stareing and I be oh I must look good today everyones looking at me.
-
I haven't weighed her for a couple weeks I'll weigh her this morning when she wakes up and let you know. I think she just has her feathers fluffed a little in the picture because she's scared of the camera. She does weigh 140gr more than Adaya normaly though. her normal weight is 579gr and Adaya weighs 440gr big difference
-
That should be fine as long as your Grey is where you are when your home thats the main thing they like to be where the action is so to speak he will want to be with you when your home. But I think its good to have your cage away from the main part of the house so when its bedtime he can sleep without being disturbed. Or you could use the smaller cage as a sleep cage and put the bigger cage where the action is in the livingroom.
-
OMG I never notice the difference in size until I looked at this picture. Tyco is one big fat bird.
-
This picture isn't the best I had to snap it quick as soon as Tyco saw the camera it was OH NO MOMS GOT THAT THING THATS GOING TO STEAL MY SOUL RU HIDE:laugh: but before I had the camera Tyco and Adaya where actually having fun. Tyco went running into her cage when the camera came out but then after I took the picture I went to get Adaya and then Tyco came running back out of her cage because she didn't want me to take her. She sure has taken a liking to Adaya I'm really suprised if Adaya is in her cage Tyco doesn't take her eyes off her for a second unless Adaya is sleeping.

Thats great happy to hear theirs a happy ending to all of this.

I understand Raposa where your coming from its better to be safe than sorry. If I felt for any reason my birds would not be safe in my house flying around then I may consider clipping if I couldn't some how train them or correct the situation.
