Today I did somthing I've been meaning todo for months. I moved Gizmo to a more flock oriented spot. He was in the dining room because that was the eaisest room to move his cage to after his Quaritine but we don't really hang out in that area of the house and even though he had a nice bright cheerful spot and we had to walk by him to go to the bathroom or the laundryroom and he could see me when I was working in the kitchen I also made a point of spending an hour or so everyday of one on one and then another couple 10 to 15 minutes at other times he wasn't really in a spot where he was a part of everything. I didn't do it sooner because he has a enormas play top cage 40x30x 54 and I don't have a man around and it had to be moved up 3 stairs so I've been putting it off. But today I did it with the help of my daughter I got a good bite from Gizmo also he drew a bit of blood. but now he's in the perfect spot where he's with me and the rest of the birds. I asked him if he was happy and he scurryed up to the roof of his cage and hung by one toe and swung back and forth say happy happy happy. So I took it that he is So I think he will progress allot faster now I just hope he doesn't get nippy because he's in a spot where we have to walk right beside the door of his cage to go to the washroom all he has to do is reach out and grab if he has a mind too. We will see how he does I may have to switch places with him and my Indian ringneck but its been a few hours now and he's being a really good boy so we will see how it goes. I think I might just change his name also I really don't likethe name Gizmo it it makes him sound like he's some kind of gaget rather than a beautiful Macaw besides that it doesn't go with the rest of my flocks names like Raja, Adaya you understand plus I figure new home let wipe out everything from his abusive past and start completely fresh. Now I going to need some sujestion I was thinking of mabie O'Mally because he's a beautiful Emerald green just like the emerald Isle and O'Mally's a good Emerald Isle name

Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2009/05/18 05:25

Thats so sad but I'm glad she has a new dad that loves her and takes good care of her. If I were you I would put a deposit on the Timnah I've heard nothing but wonderful things about them they may be a bit smaller but that doesn't mean they are any less smart and I think they are just as pretty as the congo mabie you won't get as much dust because they are smaller my 2 Congos can put an inch of dust on things in 1 day.
-
I always wanted a Timnah and I ended up with 2 Cags I love them to death but I have heard there really isn't much difference between the 2 speicies except tail and beak colour. I heard tha Timnahs are less likely to pluck and are more laid back and excepting of things. If you don't mind me asking what happened to your Congo

Oh yes they do know how to get into mischeif alright I have a ton of natural wood trim in my house I'm always after them so they don't totally eat my house so far so good just a bit around Tycos windows and and the trim around the bay window ceiling my kitchen cabnets a bit and around Fergies window abit at least they have left the rest of my house pretty much in tact. they do like to chew and it doesn't seem to matter how much wood you give them that they are allowed to chew they seem to go for the forbiden fruit so to speak little buggers. thank goodness I own my home if I rented I'm sure my landlord would have tossed me and my birds out long ago LOL you'll have a ton of fun with them Carol they're easy to love but boy can they be little brats sometimes.

Its wonderful news I can't wait for Adaya to sayher first words she mumble and talks baby talk all the time. She likes to be on her back also I have a couple birds that I can do that with. once they get the hang of it the really seem to like it with Adaya I stated with cuddling her on my chest and then just leaned forward till she was laying down and the I just left her laying on my hand and leaned myself back ward and contiued to pet her she got used to it really quickly now if she's sitting beside me and I'm petting her I just roll her over and she just lays there. its sweet and they are so trusting when they're young they will allow anything as long as its possitive attention.

Thats wonderful will you be handfeeding them or letting the parents raise them. I can't wait baby teil are so cute.

A T top is a glass roof that is removablw like a convertable but its got two glass panels that come off rather than a cloth top I guess the wild bird can see Adaya through the roof she sits on the head rest and looks out the windows and roof at everthing she really enjoys it but Im always at the car wash after I take her out. that bird the other day must have been saving it up because my windsheild was just coated in poop:sick:

You could take a small branch with a few leaves on it to a tree nursury and they could probubly Idenify it for you its hard to tell by the picture. I buy untreated wood and make toys also but I find my birds prefew natural tree branches to chew and strip the bark off of I have a few bird safe trees in my yard so I just go cut a few every now and then and they just have a great time stripping the bark and chewing the nice fresh branches.

Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2009/05/17 21:37

I have a T-top on my car and everytime I take Adaya with me in the car My car get bombed with wild bird Poop. the other day I was driving home and a bird went out of its way topoop on my windshield I saw the bird sitting on the telephone wires and as I got closer it flew off the wire and right directly over my car and then flew back to the wire again. my car has so much poop on it everytime I take Adaya with me and I couldn't figure out why until the other day when this bird did this. It seems that they see Adaya and somehow have to show there unhappyness about this poor bird trapped in a car.

Oh yes we all get tricked by them sometimes Tyco has my daughters voice down perfectly and once my daughter was in the bath and I heard her scream Mom I went to the bathroom to see what she wanted only to have her look at me like I had lost my mind. It makes you feel kinda foolish when you get tricked by your bird doesn't it. ha ha ha:laugh:

Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2009/05/17 18:55

now how cute is that I have a green cheeked Conure that is 2 1/2 yrs old and he still sleeps streched out laying down in his happy hut it so cute I wonder if your little guy will continue to do that into adult hood.
-
Thats a smart bird and very trusting of your wife she knows your wife won't let her fall good for her.
-
It Took Tyco my rescue alsmost a 1 and 1/2 yrs to grow his flights back and she also broke a few blood feathers from playing to rough and the feathers have no other feathers around them for support so you will have to supervise her playing when she starts to molt and get her new ones.
-
I just love all you pics but that first picture makes my day she looks like the perfect little Angel I would blow that up and frame it she looks so peaceful sound asleep all curled up.

Icannot believe I missed this Thread bad melol. That is a very sweet and beautiful bird you have there I've always wanted an Elkie but the oppurtunity has never presented itself. He's so so pretty even naked. I love the new cage you got for him and I'm sure you will have a fully feathered bird in no time. I believe that birds pluck because they are stressed and unhappy or out of habit if they've been pluckers for any length of time. for what ever reason you can't always understand what makes a bird tick but if you do your best and he seems happy mabie you can break the habit and he will stop. Tyco barbered her feathers before I got her and she doesn't anymore thank goodness. It was all new to me also but if I can do it I know you will be able to also Solomon obviously adores you and thats a good start that all I had with Tyco also is the fact that she liked me. She also lived in a cockateil size cage for years and when I got her one of thefirst things I did was to get her a new gigantic cage and of course take her for a vet check she had never had one. Thank goodness she was healthy. then I just did basicly what your doing and that is to love her and talk to her tell her everything I was doing they do like to know whats going on around them. and within the first year Tyco had all her feathers again. while they where growing back we had to be extra creful about feather with nothing to support them so play had to b supervised so she didn't break them we had a couple broken blood feathers but not to many I think three in total its ver scary when they bleed like that. We managed to stopp the bleeding and she would pull that feather herself within a day or so she finally got them all. I know that Solomon is now in a home where he will be happy so I believe that in no time he will stop pulling his feathers congrats on your new flock member your so lucky to have such a beautiful bird.
