  3. When your outside with your bird keep close eye on her body language she/he will let you know way before you see a preditor bird. I live in a wild bird reserve and we have hundreds of differnt wild birds around Bald eagle and hawks being the majority of these wild birds When i take Adaya out I can always tell if she sees a hawk or an Eagle because she will scramble up to my shoulder and try to hide under my hair. Just like she would with a mama bird she would run and hide under her moms wings and sure enough if I look up there will be a bird circleing.<br><br>Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2009/05/25 21:04

    Jeepers

Well I must say that since I've moved Jeepers to his new spot he is just turned into a very sweet bird he wants me to kiss him and give him scritches all the time. he still gets nervous about anything new I thought Greya where the only birds that got nervous about new things but Jeepers is why more so than my Greys are poor thing must have really had a horrible life before coming to me. Today he asked for a scritch I guess it feels goo because he has so many pin feathers on his neck and head. so I started giving him scritches and for the very first time he actally closed his eyes and enjoyed it for about 5 minutes. Usually he watches my hand and if I get to close to his face he trys to bite but not today. he just totally enjoyed it so I think mabie we've finally turned a corner. Another thing he does now that he wouldn't do before is to let me rub his beak he doesn't like it much yet but he will let me do it. he has come a long way in just a few days he was so afraid of hands and now he's actually starting to find out that hands can also give love. He still not sure if he wants to step up so I'll wait till he's ready at least he's no longer lunging at me and I can even kiss him with out it being through the bars of his cage. He loves kissing and says kiss kiss when he wants one and streach his neck towards me so I can kiss the top of his beak and he make a big kiss noise as some as I kiss him. Anyway I pretty excited about all his steps forward since I moved his cage to a more apropriate spot in the middle of everything.
  5. What a wonderful name for a beautiful little girly she is so sweet looking I love the pictures. and wow first words also they do grow up fast. your in for it now she knows how to talk and soon you will be lokking for that on off button:laugh: don't forget to write it in your baby book babys first wors what ya doing. I love it and I'm so excited for you and her. Adaya practices all the time but no words yet.
  6. Echo is absolutly gorgous He sounds allot like Adaya she doesn't eat as I would like either I haven't tryed oatmeal yet but mabie I will see if she likes it. she likes all her veggies she loves cooked carrots she's not crazy about mashed food but will eat some of it and as long as she eats some of it I figure shes getting enough to supply her with the vitimins she needs she just loves all veggies and leafy greens raw so Thas wonderful she also loves her dried fruits and her seed and nuts Shes a good little eater and was totally weaned at 14 weeks but I'm sure Tyco helped with that because she watched Tyco eat all the time.the only difference between Tyco and her is that Tyco loves her pellets and eats allot of them she even eats the ones out of her seed and nut mix plus her Zupreem fruity, I wish all my bird liked pellets as much as Tyco does. but then again Tyco is the least fussiest bird I have she eats absolutly everything. I think that comes with being a rescue I think she probubly went hungry allot and now she just loves food. Sorry Catlian I didn't mean to take over your thread. I'll stop now Ireally like hearing how Echo is doing then I can kinda compare notes to make sure Adayas kinda on the same track you know how it is.
  7. Their all so cute it won't be long and all these birds are going to be able to out think us. Sometimes mine already do:silly:
  8. My birds are my life pretty much I have a couple of really good friends that I visit and I work a few days a week but genrally I'd rather stay home and be with my birds they love me and I love them I worry about them and I always make sure they have clean cages and the freshest fuits, veggies and spring water that I can get. I love to teach them new thing and cuddle and love on them they are so much like small human children its scarry sometimes how very intelegent they are. Adaya being a baby is just showing me glimpses of just how smart she is going to become and Tyco vocabulary and stuff she come out with is nothing short of amazing they are just the most awsome creatures. my friends ask me how can I stand the noise to me its not noise it just their way of telling me they are either happy or upset. Fergie hates it when I'm on the phone and screams until I hang up. some times its not appropriate when I'm trying to talk bussiness but then I just go into another room and shut the door. I love them and my life would be very boreing without them they have givin me so much I can't help but want to give them as much of my time as I can possibly spare.
  9. Beautiful I'd have to sell my house and move in with them to afford them I got a geat deal on Adayas cage it was on for 1/2 price reg price was 549. and I bought it for under 300. including tax and its big 42x36x72 she has so much room in there she's just a little bird. Jeepers my macaw cage is the same size except its only 64 in high and has a playtop. and Tycos cage is 40x24 x68 with a playtop Adayas cage is a dome top. Ifind all of the cages I have for my birds are plenty big enough they have tons of room and they are out most of the time anyway they are basicly just for sleeping in the only bird I have that isn't out all day is Adaya because she's a baby and doesn't quite understand that the other birds don't want her on their property. Shes learning my Amazon is okay with it and so is Tyco but I worry about my Macaw he is quite possesive about his cage because he was locked in there for so many years by his previous owner. So Adaya has to take turns with him for out of cage time. she gets out for 3 hours in the morning During this time we do flight training for about an hour and then in the afternoon I take her out for her hour walk around the neibourhood on a harrness she likes to fly outside so she flys in circles on her harness for about 30 minutes. then on my days off sun, mon, tues, she comes out in the evening and spends quality time with me. So all and all my bird don't have allot of in cage time so I think their cages are plenty fine for the four hours that I work four days a week from 5pm til 11pm and and their bedtime is 9pm so basicly there is only 4 hours of cage time til its sleep time
  10. Those pets sure no how to get back at you don't they I can just picture you walking the neighbourhood in the hot sun calling and that cat sitting back hiding and watching you and laughing to himself sayin g look at him out I'll show him what its like not come when being called.
  11. Wow Carol your a very talented toy maker I love that box with the Tongue depresser I think I could even manage to make that one. I like that you can just go buy more another bag of sticks for it and there ya go the toy that lasts forever I think Adaya would love that one her favorite pass time is to turn popsicle sticks and clothes pins into toothpicks.
  12. thats grey't that you have such a well socialized bird you have done a wonderful job raising her.
  13. Adaya has motive she gets praise and scriches and mom getting excited because she is so smart They love drama and I geive her thay when she does what she was taught to do. I find for my birds thats all they need to keep doing it right. they are amazingly smart and love to learn new things. as long as i'm willing to teach they are more than willing to learn. I think they would learn new thing almost without the praise and excitment they get just for the interaction with me and the new game thats fun for them to play. Tyco does all kinds of thing she can wave she pays a game my daughter taught her its called Shake & bake play for keeps its actually really funny to watch. when you wave your hand up and down saying shake and bake play for keeps Tyco speads her wing fluffs her feathers and then struts around bobbing her head up and down saying shake and bake play for keeps it really funny and Tyco does it so well.
  14. I'll Have to Try that as long as I can get my daughter to help me lift the cages down 2 steps. I know Fergie would love it. Tyco would hate it and Adayas cage is just to humungus to move anywhere. Jeepers my severe Macaw would bite as haed as he could through the bars and my Indian ring neck would probubly think it was a new and wonderful adventure. i think i'll try 1 a day just to see how they do
  15. what a smarty pant just goes to show you how smart they are they can figure out the best way to get her to her mom without to much interferance.Great story thanks for shareing
  16. what a sweetie. You have to love her how could you not someone would have to have a heart of stone not to love a sweety like her {Love-000200DA}<br><br>Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2009/05/23 21:52
  17. Have you decided on a name yet I found the greatest name for a little girl but not until after I named Adaya I don't know what you will think but here goes. the name is Nevaeh and its heaven spelt backwards I love it for a little Girl or even a boy for that matter.
  18. don't worry all of them wean at different time there is one Grey on this forum that didn't wean until she was 23 weeks old eventually they all wean just make sure he has tons of different kinds of foods to check out and try put them all on the bottom of the cage in small dishes eventually he will eat them and wean.
  19. I so glad he vet feels her beak can be corrected. Your very brave to watch the vet do these kinds of proceedures I can't watch this kind of stuff I'm just the rescuer when its all done. I get the vet to have her assistant help and I leave the room heck I even had trouble watching my vet pull 3 feather out of Adayas wings to have her Dna tested I almost cryed. I must say though your a wonderful mom to get this fixed quickly before it turns into a sissor beak and cause her lots of problems good for you.
  20. ahhhh they love you thats soooo cute I can't stop laughing. Adaya likes to land on my head also. So I taught her recall so now at least when I'm watching she will land on my hand rather then my head. but if I have my back to her she still will go to the highest spot which is the top of my head then her talons get caught and boy sometime its hard to get her to let go of my hair ouch Those 2 of yours look like so much fun I bet your juust loving every minute of it.
  21. I've been practicing recall with Adaya and she's so good at it now. I tell her to flyand she will flyoff my hand to one of the varius perches around the room and then watch me and as soon as I raise my hand above my head she will fly to me she's getting so good that she will do it anytime she see my hand go up even if shes playing with Tyco or a toy she is so so smart and its just for lots of praise not for any kind of edible treat her treat is me getting excited with her and telling her what a smart bird she is. I'm ver excited about it not that I would ever free flight her without some kind of harness but its really fun to teach her new stuff she catches on so fast. next I think I'm going to see if I can get her to come from another room where she can't see me just by calling her name.
  22. All you can do is keep feeding them and eventually she will when she gets hungry you should also be feeding her fresh fruits and veggetables of all kinds with the pellets you can make up a birdy bread and crush the pellet and put them in or mabie cook some different kinds of beans like kidney, lina, black eyed peas chick peas their are so many just buy the 12 bean mix of dried beans soak over night then cook them well add some frozen veggies some pellets and some brown cooked rice and your bird will love it. birds love warm foods its comfort food for them also try cooked squash sweetpotatos turnips carrots all of these cooked and mashed your bird may like My birds Love mashed potatos they are good for breaking up just a few pellets and thowing them in with them also a nice scrambled egg once a week is good and mabie grate a little cheese once a week for extra calcium. . If you can get your bird to eat this stuff you won't have to worry any more about weather or not he's eating right.
  23. Those baby's are just far to cute I hope your going to keep the pics coming so we can watch them grow the end of August will come fast don't worry your babe will be home before you know it.
  24. They are soooo cute Tina Must have told them all about you while she was feeding them because it looks like they new right away who their new mommy was so cute I love your pics. I remember when I first got Adaya and to go to work was the hardest thing I ever had to do mind you she was only 5 weeks old. every night I worked when My shift ended I couldn't get home fast enough. Come to think of it I still can't get home fast enough to be with her. Its a little easier now though having to go to work doesn't seem like the end of the world anymore accept mabie for my birds as thet scream no work its not fair its just not fair no go work. They just hate it when I have to go for so long.
