Thank you for all your wonderful coments Yesterday Adaya actually laid on her back in the palm of my hand without holding on to anything with her feet. To me that is the altimate trust a parront can achieve I was just so excited about it when I can get my daughter to take a picture of it I'll post it. I am so blessed to have such a wonderful little girl Grey.

Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2009/06/02 01:55

Welcome welcome her pulling her chest feathers out just before laying could have just bee her creating a brooding spot for what she pecieved as her upcomeing family. I so glad you found us and things are well. Your grey is a very pretty girl and its great you have a heart for the older ones that need a home. Karma to you for that. I rescued a Grey a Couple years ago and adopted a baby about 10 weeks ago she was 5 weeks old when I got her and she is about 15 or 16 weeks old now Tyco my rescue turned 6 yrs old in February. Glad you could join us and hope to see lots of pics and hear lots about you and your new found friend -
When I take Adaya out for her walks or for a drive everybody asks me Is that a pigeon I find most people can't tell one bird from another. One day a little boy asked if that was a pigeon and his mom said no son thats a Macaw I had to explain that it was not a pigeon or a Macaw that it was an African grey. unless the person has birds themselves then they know exactly what she is but so many people out there don't have a clue about birds and could really care less. I really kind of upsets me. I've known what an African Grey was since I was a little girl and it took me until I was 50 years old to finally get one.

I kept Adayas blanket on the botom of her cage until she was 15 weeks old and then of course the very minute I took it away she fell straight to the bottom but she's been pretty good and hasn't fallen to much. they are so much fun and so much work but worth every minute of it. Your lucky you only have one bird. Adaya's such a brat and wants to be with me all the time. I have to put her in her cage when I want to play with the other birds or she trys to chase them away from me. When me and her are playing she chases the dogs away if the enter her space its so funny my dogs are very small one is 3 lbs and the other is 5lb she doesn't bite them or hurt them in any way she just chases the away. She is such a little brat. I just love the cuddles and fun at this age though and I'm going to miss it allot if she loses her cuddliness. Your little one is just clumbsy because he's still so young his skills at climbing and holding on will improve allot as he gets older. Its never perfect though my six year old AG still falls when she's playing really hard and forgets to hold on

he is a really beautiful bird I'm so glad he's made himself at home so quickly that a very good sign that the bird store did a grey't job of socializing him. that so sad that his wings are clipped. The same thing happened to Tyco my rescue and for the first four years of her life she barbered every feather on her left hand side she was so off balanxe and would fall so hard on her keel I thought for sure she would split it wide open. so I took her to my vet and had the other wihg clipped and the one she barbered straitened out so they matched that really helped with her balance. she is now 6 yrs old and fully flighted but doesn't know how to fly its so sad birds where meant to fly.

My birds just love music I sing for them and they dance. we have so much fun together if anybody saw us sometimes they would be calling the men in the white coats to take me away.

I always alway have wet wipes handy I have 3 of my birds trained not to poop on me thank goodness the only one that is a little stuborn is my indian ringneck. Jeeperd doesn't get up on me very often so I don't have to worry about him to much yet. Adaya is grey't that way though she was so easy to train. As soon as she has to poop she gets off of me and poops. Least I don't have to worry about walking out the door with poop down the back of my shirtlol

Lmaohehahehaa thats is so funny. I glad I don't have a man around to teach my birds rude sounds hahahaha

Grey't toy my birds just love straws I make wiffle ball straw toys all the time but your way is even cheaper thanks for sharing.

I'm so very happy Cookie is doing better and playing and eating. Pretty soon he will be gaining weight and eating everything he can get his little beak on. your such a good mama. Do you have to towel his to give him his meds or is he getting used to it?
-
I have a Severe Macaw and he is about the same size in length as my Congo not including his tail of course weight wise he is about 1/2 the size though he's weighs 378 gr. My Indian ringneck is a very sweet little bird He wieghs about 120 gr and is about the same size as a conure mabie a little bigger.than some but about the same as a sun conure or a cherryhead My Amazon is about the same size as my Grey she weighs 430 gr which is also what Adaya weighs there are a few smaller Amazons though that are about the size of a Timnah. Goffins cockatoo is quite small also about the size of a Timnah also, and most of the mini macaw are about the same as a conure.

Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2009/06/03 04:06

How do your greys treat visitors in your home.

I don't get alot of vsitors because I live in the middle of nowhere land so most of the people don't get out this way very often. My daughters come and visit and my birds know them quite well so they are pretty friendly with them Tyco absolutly adores one of my daughters because she was the last oneto move out next to Adaya who is just 13 yrs old so I still have her for a couple years yet. All and all I'd say my birds are fairly well behaved uhless it a man then we have to listen to Fergie scream every obsenity she knows at him in a exreamly angry voice she was badly abused by a man so she hates them. Sometimes if she really hates the man that comes over then she won't swear at him and call him names instead she will go into her cutesy act and turn her head upside down and say hello are you a bird I'm prettybird and when they let their gaurd down and get close to her or try to pet her she will bite them really hard and then laugh her head off. Fergie is very social with woman and will allow any female to give her scritches and pets. So it really decieving to most men that heres a very nice bird I should be able to pet her also they think Haha not if your a man -
Awwww what an absolute sweetheart so so so cute. Isn't it Grey't when their all cuddly Adaya loves to cuddle up realy close and get scritches. I so hope she doesn't grow out of it but I know she probubly will but right now I'm taking all the cuddles she has to offer.

There is a very good chance that your bird will not return to you Jamil and if you do this there is also a very good chance that hour bird will return to its wild state and will no longer want to be your pet. If you love your Grey and do not want to lose him all you can do is give him the best possible life you can in captivity. whos to say being free is best constantly watching to make sure some pretitor isn't sneaking up trying to kill and eat you or your baby's or steal your dinner that took all day to get and then you have to go hungary I don't really know if being in the wild is more fulfilling as long as we provide the proper nutrition and the right amount of excersize and all the love we can give Being a kept bird foesn't sound so bad I don't think

ououou you guys  thats enough to turn me off. no more drinking juice out of my glass I just made a big batch of eighteenbean bean mash with every thing healthy for birds I could think of and I just pictured that flouting around in my orange juice. Yuk yuk or what if she decided to gurge for me right at that moment Oh yuk

Does anybody elses Grey like to play rough?
Tycos_mom replied to Tycos_mom's topic in The GREY Lounge
Adaya does use her beak allot while we are playing but she never hurts she just holds on. I 'll have to remind her as she gets older to stay gentle like she is right now> I love playing with her she is such a hoot. I have to watch to make sure I don't touch any of the other birds while I'm playing with her she does try to chase them away like she does the dogs but they are older than her and I'm afraid she will get hurt. So when she's out of her cage I don't go near any of the other birds. I tell her no all the time she's not afraid of anything the little brat. Thank goodness my birds are used to being around other birds so they are very gentle and don't hurt her But they could and I don't want to take any chances. I guess its just going to take a little time to realize that we are all one big happy flock. Yes Jen Adaya can also be so sweet and she will snuggle and cuddle for hours happily getting scritches abd love. When she wants to play she plays hard and tire herself out then it cuddle time she's just the sweetest little bird I'm so glad I decided to get her even if she is allot of work right now I know I'll miss this baby stage as she gets older but socializing them and helping them to grow into independent happy birds is no easy task you have to watch them every second they are out of their cages so they don't get themselves into trouble.

Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2009/06/01 03:22 -
This is a picture of her as she is about to roll over. This is Picture of her on her back playing with my Indian ringnecks boing that hangs over his cage.

Oh I'm so Jelous I want one or mabie even 3 for my birds but the cost of haveing them shipped to Canada is outragous 240.00 thats like almost double I'm going to get them one but I'm going to have to save for it I don't like to run my credit card up so I'll have to wait.

OMG that is so scary. I'm terrified of fire when I was 5 yrs old our house burnt down. the people upstairs where smoking in bed. I'll never forget my Dad grabbing me and my 2 sisters out of our beds at 5am and seeing smoke and flames everywhere. So So scary I'm so glad that everyone is ok thank goodness. I don't have enough travel cages for all my birds but I do keep a large pillow case beside each of their cage so at least if there is a real emergency such as I fire I can get them out quickly and saftly Its not a cage but it will contain them its light weight so I can take them all at the same time. if I had to put them all in travel cages I would have to make 2 or 3 trips if they are in pillow cases just one trip and we are all out saftley. If you don't have a travel cage for all its the best solution. My vet actually sugested this.

Adaya loves to play really rough she just loves it when I roll her over on her back and just rough house with her. she's so funny she even rolls herself over to let me know she wants to play. When were playing on the bed if my dogs jump up she wil chase them off she's very protective of her space and time with me. she does hurt them or try to bite she chases them away and once they are on the floor and off the bed she goes back to playing with me she is so silly. Does anyone elses greyy like to play rough or does Adaya just have a very strange personality.
-
I have the same problem with Adaya except she's polite (not) and waits until I pick it up to take a drink and as soon as i got it to my mouth she's got her little head in there trying really hard to get a drink at the same time silly bird. Do you know how hard it is to get a drink when you have a birdy head in the cup trying very hard to drink at the same time. The little booger;)
