Mytoos.com is a very acurate portral of what owning a Cockatoo s like I had one for a while. He was 25 years old and one of the sweetest cuddliest birds I've ever met To me. If my 13yr old Daughter came into the room when he was out of his cage he would attack her and bite hard drawing blood every time. he didn't like the other birds either. anything that he thought took me away from him became an instant enemy. I could do anything with him he was as sweet as pie and to watch him with me you would think that he didn't have a mean bone in his body. If I didn't spend at least 4 hours of total one on one time daily he would scream and you could hear him clearly down to the end of the block and thats with the windows closed. I love him allot but he needed to be in a home with a single woman with no other pets preferably retired or working from home. If you want a large cuddly bird get a Macaw they can at least entertain themselves for long periods of time and they just love to be cuddled like a Cockatoo.

Its not very good Its kinda dark and I didn't have any body to hold the camera for me so I had to hold the camera and keep Darius entertained as well.

Yes a healthy Macaw shine It the same with Jeepers now also he has a breathtaking shine to his feathers I could just look at him in awe all day long.

I really think that Echo needs to feel that she is still very loved and is still top birds. I don't think that she's trying to hurt Chiku she just tring to tell her that I was here first and I'm the boss I would not be trying to give Chiku more attention than Echo Echo must remain top bird if there is any hopes that one day they will except each other do not try to push the friendship it must happen by itself without interferance from you. the only thing you should be doing is refereeing any fighting other then that let the birds figure it out Echo must be made to feel he is still #1 in your eyes. All my birds are a flock and I've never tried to make any of them be friends with one another it takes about 4 months for a new bird to be accepted as a flock member<br><br>Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2009/09/05 22:39

When my kids where babies I always had horrible dreams I reemember one was extreamly bad about my my 3 yr old she had a sister that was a 1yr younger than her and we where on a bus and our stop came I remember struggling to get the stroller off the bus and I was just turning to help my 3 year old get off and the door of the bus closed and left with my 3yr old still on it. horrible dream. the stupidist thing is I've always had a car never ever rode the bus but thats was the dream. I really think we dream about losing the things we love the most because its something that would be the worst thing to ever happen thank God its only a dream.

How long has he been home? haw old is he? if he's a baby he may just be a little nervous everything is new to him let him adjust he will soon be cuddling and loving like all baby Greys.

Darius is starting to get a beautiful shine to his feather's and to me its a sure sign he's getting healthier everyday. These pictures were taken this morning.

Yes I think its a normal behaviour Tyco is a 6 yr old rescue and not very affectionate at all but she does love her kiss goodnight and a little head scrtch. its the only time she will allow scritches from me. So yes I would say its a normal behaviour for them
-
oh no what a horrible thing to happen you have my deepest heart felt sympathy R.I.P Little one.

I must say that Darius is really starting to shine. when I first brought him home his feather's where beautiful but they had absolutely no shine to them they where dull and flat I don't know how to describe it. I was playing on the couch with him this morning wrestling and rolling him around he likes to be on his back like Adaya does. any way I noticed he's getting some real shine to his feathers now its not brilliant yet but the shine is definitely starting to come through. He's a wonderful companion he so gentle and so loving and he starting to get more playful now also.

As long as the bird came from a good home and had regular well bird checkups I don't think there is much risk its the birds that come from not so good homes or pet stores, bird mills they are the one that you really have to keep quarantined until all tests come back. Obviously if his cage and toys are spotless and he has tons of toys he was very loved and well taken care of so I probubly wouldn't quarantine him either if I had adopted him.

What a gorgeous little bird you have there I love lovies they are so cute. She/he is still very young with the black still on the beak how old is she. Karma to you for helping this sweet little bird get a wonderful home where she can thrive.

OH no not again. Oh well at least you know how now. poor baby she just play's why to hard I had the same problem with Tyco when she was growing her flight feathers back in she broke at least 6 of them before she finally had enough feathers around them to have support so she didn't break them I had to take a few of her favorite toys away for a bit because everytime she played with them she broke a feather.
-
I didn't return mine and I've only used it once for my Amazon. Tyco's to big for it she weighs 579 gr I bought it for her but there just isn't any room in there for her. and she refuses to go in it.

Beautiful Pictures They certianly are very differnt looking than our parrots aren't they. So beautful in their own way as well I just love those very shiny black feathers and the Yellow on their heads just makes them vibrant looking very pretty bird. It looks like KOKO is starting to except Mocha as a flock member maybe one day they might even be friends.

Thats allot of babies to feed and socialize in 1 month. Its a full time job. I'm so glad that there are people like you in the world that trully love and care for Gods creatures. To me the birds are angels on earth to watch over us. they are such intelegent beautiful animals every single one of them. You must have a very large house to be able to keep all these guys for at least the time it takes to wean them all. Do You ever get very attachaed to the one that just is so special. I used to breed Shih-zu dogs and there was always 1 pup every couple of litters that I'd want to keep usully the runt. Do you find its like that with the birds as well? Any way Karma to you for all your hard work you deserve it

Well I think he's just so pretty. Boy do I know about massive poops. Darius doesn't like to poop in his cage so every morning he climbs onto his Boing which has news paper under it and does his morning poop. about that time I'm in the kitchen makeing birdy breakfast. and just about everytime I go to give Darus his breaky I step in this huge morning poop with my bare feet   You would think I'd learn but so far my brain has not kicked in maybe its because its to early in the morning or something. In any case its definatly not fun to have bird poop between your toes first thing in the morning. I'm starting to wonder if he's doing it on purpose just to hear me say owww yuk and then hobble off to the bathroom trying my hardest not to get any on the carpet. I could almost swear I heard him laughing under his breath this morning.  <br><br>Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2009/09/02 09:46

Well I don't have anything that is gas anymore in my home. everything is electric now so I don't need a carbon Monoxide detector but I do have 2 smoke detectors one by the kitchen and one in the laundry roon which is where the fuse box and water heater is also. I'm glad this thread came up It reminded me that the one in the hall just out side the kitchen needs new batteries I just wrote it done on my to do list for tomorrow.

Ah thanks every one Im not doing anything more than any of you would do under the same circustanses. I went over to his previous owners house yesterday because she had asked me if I would take a few picture of him for her. I guess she didn't have many. So I went to take her some and she said he look different and really happy. I said he is really happy. I reassured her that he's getting everything a bird could possibly ever want. She had tears rolling down her cheeks. She found a home for the Cockatoo so I was happy about that she only has her Amazon now so hopefully she will be able to afford just one bird and give it every thing he needs. Apperantly thats her favorite she can do anything with it I know shes the only one of the birds that had a brand new cage and toys and thing so she probly got special treatment when it came to food as well she was really petite for a Dyh I must say she was about the size of a Timnah African Grey.<br><br>Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2009/09/02 06:02

they are so cute i bet you going to sad to see them go when its time for them to go home to their family's. I wouldn't be able to do it I don't think I'd be bawling my eyes out wondering if the where being treated right and getting all the right things to eat and if their cages where large enough. I'd be a nervous wreck. When I got Adaya I could of had her for free if I took 3 other babie's and hand fed them for my breeder friend. I just couldn't do it I would end up wanting to keep them all so I paid 1/2 price and took only Adaya at 5 weeks old. She's more than enough baby for me. She is such a little trouble maker some times. I wouldn't change a thing though I just love my little brat to pieces.<br><br>Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2009/09/03 14:49
