1. I ordered the Aviator harness for Darius and I hope its not going to be to big he weighs about 1000 grams right now. I ordered the exlarge one for him it fits birds from 1000 to 1600 grams the large fits just up to 1000 grams. Do you think I'll have any problems harness training him? He's 5 or 6 years old and I don't know if he has ever had one on. I can touch him any where on his body so that won't be a problem getting him to lift his wings. I'm just a little worried its going to be a total waste of time. I would love to be able to bring him with me when I can but hes to big for a light weight travel cage so if I can't harness train him he's going to be house bound.
2. I;m getting so excited I can't wait for the little ones looks like you got a wonderful home for egg #4 if Dan is serious about taking it. And if we get a baby from it, I just cant wait to see those like featherless baby's what fun you must totally be on pins and needles waiting and hoping I'd be going crazy I wouldn't be able to sleep with thinking about them. I could never be a breeder of birds that's for sure.
3. Vacations whats that? After my birds get through spending my money there's not much left for vacations. Unless its a camping trip so they can come too
4. Omg your going to be so busy when all these little guys hatch. this is wonderful keep us updated wh are all waiting for the sounds of little peeps.
5. I hope that your Amazon is like mine I can actually say that she has never bit me and she is 12 yrs old I rescued her when she was 4 yrs old. She is the most wonderful laid back bird I have ever seen. its because of her personality I think that all the other birds in my flock want to be her friend including my 2 Greys the get along great with her and there has never been any kind of confrontation because Fergie(YCA) just would rather walk away rather than fight. Her and Tyco are good friends Tyco is always going over to her cage to play, in fact all the birds go over to her cage to play because she gets along with them all I hope you find that your new baby us as wonderful as my sweet girl is. I would be totally lost without her inmy life.
6. OH NO I'm so very sorry my heart is hurting for you as I also am grieving the loss of a beloved pet at this time so Know exactly what you are going through. I know the sadness of not knowing why in my case where. I will be thinking of you and Macey over the next while and praying that the pain subsides soon and you get the answers about what happened. In my case I will probubly never know where my beloved dog went to die. you can read it all in off topic discussions if you want to. Just Know I will be right there with you thinking about you and your loss and how sorry i trully am for you
7. Very nice my birds have an outdoor cage but the have to share so they only can go out for a couple hours then the next bird gets a turn. They only get to this about 7 months out of the year because I live in western Canada so we get the change of seasons but it starts to get warm in April and we have good days right through October so its not so bad it was 30 degrees celcius here yesterday so summer is still hanging in there.
8. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. I keep looking out my door thinking he might be there but its been 5 days now and no Destiny I guess I'm going to have to live with the knowledge that he went on his terms. I guess they know when its time and their natural instinct tells them to go some where away from the pack to die. Its so sad I would have prefered to be able to say good-bye and give him a proper send off but I guess it just wasn't meant to be. Rest in peace my dear friend where ever you are you will be very missed I love you so much
9. OMG do I know what your going through. Lengthen his sleep time to 14 hours slowly over the next week like 10 or 15 minutes a night make sure its good and dark. this will help him. and no more grapes for awhile and keep soft foods to a minumum. when soft foods are plentiful they think its time to mate because soft foods are easy to regurgatate so they can feed them to their mate easily while she's nesting.I just got over this with my IRN and I did all these things I mentioned and he was back to himself in 6or7 weeks. So don't worry you will have your sweet Elecie back to his old self in no time. Don't worry its not permanent.
10. I found the best way of dealing with Jeepers my Severe Macaw was to always ask or tell him what I wanted before I did it and to go in as slowly as possible. Mini Macaws are wonderful but they do take some time to get used to their new home. He may not have been handled much in his previous home for awhile that's probubly why he was being rehomed its the number 1 reason people rehome their bird because they don't have time for them or they don't want to spend time with them either way the bird is usually without their loving companion for quite sometime before they decide it would be better for the bird to have a new home. So now its going to take time and patients for the new owner you to resocialize him this is a easy task all it takes is patient and love and your time don't worry he will come around give him a couple months to let him settle in and learn to trust you. he probubly feels betrayed by his companion because he's been rehomed so he's unsure about trusting again right away but birds are forgiving and he will come around soon enough
11. Its starting to really hit home now that he really gone its been 4 nights and no Destiny my heart hurts and the tears have started. I just want him home one way or another even if it just to say good-bye properly Ive looked everywhere I can think of there are places on the property that I can't get to because of the overgrown blackberry bushes but he could this is very hard on my heart strings.
12. Hi Jay I noticed in the thres where you welcomed the girl with her new Panama that you thought Salsa might be one I can tell you that she's not salsa has black toe nails a Panama has white toe nails. She looks like my YCA I think.
13. Your baby is beautiful when I first got my Amazon the people I got her from told me she was a panama but she's not she's a yellow crown even though they look alike the Pamama amazon has white toe nails and the yellow crown has black and another differance is a yellow crown is bigger my yellow crown weighs 425 grams she's a big girl. I can't wait to hear more about your baby I just love Amazons. For that matter I just love birdsLOL
14. Hi there and welcome you think Bismark is moody as a baby you ain't seen nothing yet. I have a baby and a 6 year old and whenmy 6 yr old is happy she is the most awesome wonderful fantastic bird anyone could ask for she fiesty and playful and has a wonderful sense of humor, but look out when she's not in a good mood she will let you know really quick and if you don't watch her body language you best go find some band-aids be cause she will bite and she will draw blood. thats my Tyco. I do love her so much and would not want to find out what life without her would be like. I hope you enjoy your new friend as much as I enjoy mine and I hope to here all about that friendship and how its going so keep the updates comeing and I will see you on the forum
15. His name is Destiny I got him from the pound. I went there looking for a small dog and saw this beautiful pup they told me he was going to be put to sleep on friday if someone didn't adopt him. I didn't take him because I wanted a small dog. all week I thought about this little pup and I phoned on thursday to see if anyone had taken him. he was still there so I went and got him. he has been the best dog I've ever had. I called him Destiny because I think me showing up at the pound was destiny I was supposed to have him.
16. Maybe she needs some preening toys or shreading and foraging toys she's not ever going to get any new feathers if they have to be pulled constantly because she chews them and the start to bleed, Have you taken her to the vet to rule out any illnesses. sometimes birds will pluck if they are in pain or sick
17. Hahaha I'm not that old I still have a good 30or40 yrs before I going to even classify myself old. I bet I'm younger than you are Dave
18. I have a dog he's an American Colliex Boarder Collie He looks like a B&W American Collie I've had him since he was a little pup and he is now 14 almost 15 yrs old. He went deaf about a year ago. And about a week and a half ago he started not wanting to come in the house anymore at night he started sleeping in the mud room. He wasn't eating either so I took him to the vet and she checked him over and said there is nothing wrong except he's old. So I brought him home and put his food out in the mudroom and water because he refused to come in the house and I can't force a 75lb dog to do anything he doesn't want to do for the last 2 nights I haven't seen him at all his food has not been touched in the last week and I think he just went off to die somewhere I live in the country so he could be anywhere. I put up posters and checked the humane society & the SPCA but I really don't know what else to do I don't really think he's going to be found. I'm very upset.

Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2009/09/14 04:29
19. I decided to clip Darius's nails today or at least see if he would let me if I made a game out of it. Well I was very shocked when I picked up left foot and saw that he only had 3 toes the 4th is just a little nub its the toe that would normally be the smallest toe facing back. I must be getting old or something I've had him for a month and a half and I'm just noticing now that he's only got 3 toes on 1 foot I'm so dumb founded I play with him everyday he lays onhis back on my lap and I tickle his feet and I never noticed that he only had 3 toes. Maybe I never noticed because it doesn't stop him from doing things all birds do he hangs like a bat and climbs without effort. I better keep a better eye on my baby's if I missed that what else have I missed. Bad MOMMY BAD
20. I've done similar things also so I do feel for you but its hard not to laugh how does it taste is it good{Feel-good-0002006E}

22. I'm finding that even when I show my birds what they have todo to get the treats they are giving up really quickley and I'm haveing to show them again or make it easier for them before they will actually finish opening their toy. I'm starting to feel like they are quiting on purpose so I help them. Do you think I should just leave it and not help them at all I really feel that they should be able to do these forging things on there own they are'nt that hard the only ones they will do on their own are the litle paper dixie cups because they can chew their way to the treats but any thing harder than that they giveup on.
23. Your B&G is beautiful by the way. I have a Harlequin and I've been snooping around the web for a good informative Macaw forum myself and still haven't had much luck. you could try. www.theperch.net although its not specifically for Macaws it seems that the macaw section is a fairly busy allot of the members have macaws on that board.

Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2009/09/12 23:04
