I know tat feeling really well I remember te first time Adaya flew I was so excited she wasn't very graceful at all in fact she hit the patio door. But she learned from her mistake and hasn't ever done it again now she does recall beautifly and flys all over the house. She follows me everywhere. when she's out and about there isn't a moments peace for anyone:laugh: I had the biggest thrill the other nigt when I actually got to see my Tyco fly I knew she had been flying for awhile because I would walk into the room and she would be over visiting Fergie her cage is about 10 feet away then the other night I went to take her back to her own cage and she lost her footing and instead of falling she took flight flew about 3ft turned around and did the most graceful landing on my arm now that was exciting Tyco never learned ow to fly as a baby she is 6 years old and has finally learned to fly tats so exciting to me. so I know how wonderful tose first flights can be to see your bird doing what it was meant to do is such a beautiful site to see.

Dan right when he say it may be so ingrained he may never stop. I have an Amazon that I rescued 10 years ago She came from a very abusive home where there was allot of fighting ad swearing. She hates men to this day because of te abuse she endured. And to this day everytime someone raises their voice in anger she will go off on a swearing speil that would make a Sailor cover his ears. I have always ignored it but its just something that is triggered by anger most of the time she is as sweet as pie and never says those words. Its a good thing there isn't much fighting around here or I'm sure it would be allot worse.

Does anyone else's bird NOT know how to fly?
Tycos_mom replied to RhonnieS's topic in The GREY Lounge
My Tyco was not permited to fledge before someone butchered his wing which cause her to barber the left wing flight feathers for the next 4 years of her life. When I got her I had her wings clipped properly by a certified avian vet and she finally stopped barbering and she is fully flight but still doesn't fly very well but she is finally learning how I'm very please that she actually flew the other night turned and flew back to me and made a perfect landing onto my hand I was so proud of her she has been fully flighted for quite awhile and has been practicing a little but that was the first time I actually saw her turn and land perfectly I'm still thrilled my Tyco is finally learning to fly. -
Wonderful poem and I agree totaly with all of it. I could no more part with my birds than I could one of my own children they are my children also and will have my unconditional love as long as I am able to give it. And with Gods grace that will mean many many more wonderful years with my beautiful flying angels

Yep yep you have arrived at the best source on the net many of us have other pets as well as our Greys Its fine as long as they are well supervised when out at the same time if your cats are bird killers I would sujust keeping them separated because even a scratch from a cat is deadly to your bird cats carry pasturella in their saliva and their claws its deadly to birds so you will have to supervise them when they are in the same room together. other than that Greys make great pets as long as you don't mind a bit of a mess and the fact that they love to talk your ear off once they learn how.LOL

I'am so glad he's doing so well its amazing what rotine and consistancy can do. I think they all try to push ttheir luck from tim to time. When Darius are playing and haveing lots of fun even he will push his luck a little when it come to going back to his play stand. He would much rather stay and play with me but like all of us we have allot of other things that we have to get done. I would love to be able to spend all day playing with Darius but its not possible so he has to understand that when I say play time is over thats all there is to it and he going back to his play stand weather he likes it or not. They are just like children in so many ways and if you let them get away with something once they think its going to happen all the time. consistancy is a big part of training.

souds yummmmy i'll have to try it and see if my birds like it.

I love Meikos new playsand all he needs now is a basket or bucket full of wood cookie untreated wood from the lumberyard and a few toys and he will be the happiest parrot Darius love his play stands he has three of them in different rooms and he has his hanging playground with a swing large link chain to climb from his atom to his swing or his boing or to his play stand or cage he has ropes and toys a couple of wicker baskets to hold his wood cookies he really gets his excersize thats for sure I haven't got a picture of it right now but I will take one for you later and post it. How is Meiko doing with his training is he getting better. you haven't posted much so I'm taking that as good news.

Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2009/10/13 22:55
