Beautiful Baby's you have there don't you just love it when their feathers shine. It the one thing that visibly tells me that my birds are in healthy top notch condition. Make sure you keep a close eye on the interaction of your 2 Grey's the baby could get hurt very quickly. I have to watch Adaya all the time with Tyco most of the time Tyco is pretty good with her but if Tyco's had enough of her constantly bugging Tyco's patients goes out the window and many times I've had to get Adaya away from Tyco. I think Tyco knows thats the way to get rid of her quickly because she has never hurt Adaya its like when she turns into big bird and starts lunging she know I'll be there in a flash when I get there she just steps aside so I can take Adaya away for her. Funny birds they sure know how to tell you what they want.:laugh:

It sounds to me like youe little missy needs some gentle disapline do you have a small travel cage or carrier if so when she bites I would give her 10 minutes time out in the small cage not her own cage some place where she doesn't want to be no toys no fun. She will soon learn biting is not the thing todo.

I changed 3out of4 of my rehomes Fergie's name was Applejack and it just wasn't a name I liked at all so I changed it to Fergie she knows her name as Fergie really well now. Tyco I didn't change but she was always called Ty and I call her by her full name. I changed Gizmos name to Jeepers and my new Macaws name from Harley to Darius. So by all means if you don't like the name change it. New home, new start, new name, they catch on very quickly.

my birds all have powder coated cages because the last and personally I could not afford to buy Stainless steel for my birds. Although I would love to get them all one its not a nessesity if I ever win the lottery i'll get them all one.

I would say a legband would be the easiest safest way because it can't be a closed band at his age so once he gets their and finshed his Quarentined time you can easily have it remove and then keep it in a safe place should you ever need it again just a thought.

Char my YCA has weighed about the same ever since I've had her she's a big bird she weighs 425 gr just about the exact same weight as Adaya she weighs 429 gr Renate when are you going to tell us your babys name I can't wait to see some more pictures also he is such a pretty bird I just love Amazon's they are such awesome birds.

Its safer for him like the vet says if he gets sick he probuly won't be able to fight it. You just never know what your bringing home with you on your clothes I would really hate for him to get sick now. 30 days to keep the germs away from him is better than getting really sick

All Darius's tests for major illnesses came back Neg so he's not sick. But he has deficiencies in everything except calcium and its on the lower side of normal she said his blood count is so bad that if he even caught a slight bacterial infection he wouldn't be able to fight it. She wants me to keep him Quarantined for another 30 days and she has a special diet to help build him up quickly I have to pick it up at her office. After 30 days she want to retest to make sure he's got his levels up. She said he's very anemic. His blood count is way to low. I'm not looking forward to another 30 days of Quarantine having to shower and change my clothes at least 10 times a day isn't fun.

I did give her a piece of apple and another and another its not working but I'm very proud of her I think she's going to be saying lots of new things over the next little while you can almost make out a few other things but not quite perfect yet. She definitely wants to talk.

Well I got a Toy for Darius today with one of those extra large Wiffle balls on it. the toy is huge and I made the mistake of showing it to him before stuffing the wiffle ball with treats. He grabbed the toy and won't give it back so I'll have to wait until bed time then I will geet it back for sure the toy cost me $25.00 but its worth it to see him enjoying it and It will be even more worth it once I get the wiffle ball suffed with little packages I can hardly wait.

Hi Caitlan well I liked your Idea so much I went out today to buy one of those holders for each of my birds but they only had 2 left and they were on sale for 3.00 so I bought them both and gave 1 to Tyco and 1 to Adaya I gave the baby pink one to Adaya the other one is green. Anyway I have to tell you they went over like greased lightning Both of the birds went straight for them and had them emptyed in no time flat. Adaya's didn't go quite as fast as Tyco's because she stopped to eat some of the fruit and vegatables I put in there. Tyco on the other hand was just working on getting everything out of it as fast as she could it was fun to watch. Maybe next time I fill it I'll do it in the morning when I know they're hungry. Any way thanx allot for the Idea my birds and I just love it!love it! "LOVE IT!!"

That so funny My YCA asked every new person she meets if they are a bird she say are you a bird? and every person laughs and say no I'm a person are you a bird? and she answers yep. The can be so comical sometimes you can't help but laugh.

Your baby is beautiful I have a YCA also and she is the most awesome bird I'm sure you are going to be so happy with your is he DNA tested or do you just call him he. Fresh vegetables of every kind are better than fruit. along with a pellet diet is best try Zupreem fruit maintenance most birds take to it readily. Fruit is good also but more veggies like broccoli sweet potatoes or yams turnips snap peas green beans carrots romaine lettuce beet tops are all very good for your bird cooked yams or sweet potatoes are usually a favorite and cooked squash also just put the in the micro wave for 4or5 minutes and scrape out the inside my birds don't come up for air till their dishes are empty. just remember no mushrooms, avocado, onions, and garlic onions and garlic are ok if in small amounts like spaghetti sauce. avocado is toxic to your bird and mushrooms are a fungus and are not healthy for your bird. other than that give your bird lots of healthy foods. a little fish chicken and lean beef is also good once in a while.

Darius still like to lay in my arms and get lots of love and he's 5or6 yrs old thats when he's happiest he lays in my arms and looks up at me with a big macaw smile and the look of love and contentment all over his face I stick my knuckle in his beak and rub his face and tummy and he would stay like that all day long if I let him. They are cuddly like Cockatoos but can also entertain and play by themselves for long periods of time they are the perfect companion they are smart and cuddly but can also entertain himself when its required that he do so and as long as you supply them with lot of toys and things to do they are as happy as can be what else could you possibly want in a companion. ,

Are they starting to be playful and full of kisses and cuddles now. I know Darius can't get enough cuddles and love and he just loves to play. So these little one must be the same way execpt maybe they sleep more so you can get a break every once in a while. The little pteradactols looking ones are getting a little cuter now that their eyes are open. I want them all just stick them in a carry on bag and bring them up to my place will ya.:laugh: Macaws can take up to a year to wean in the wild so how old will these guys be when they go to there new homes. Are you going to keep any of them?

If your really worried instead of paying 60.00 or so make an appointment with your vet to get his nails trimmed that way you can ask her about it and if its nothing than it will only cost you 15.00 instead of 60.00 and if its something more serious you'll be glad you took him and asked about it.

Adaya has learned how to say Apple and its definatly getting extreamly annoying for the last 2 days all i've heard all day long is apple apple Apple APple APPLE APPLE APPLE APPLE APPLE APPLE don't get me wrong I'm very proud of her after all she's only 6 months old but does she have to say it so often. I guess she is really proud of herself as well.LOL

I guess I should not that Its one of my favorite things to do I just hope its not in the compost pile I put a big sheet under his cage to catch all the wood chips and poop so I just rolled up the sheet and shook it out into the compost pile and then threw the sheet into the wash. I wish I had of noticed before I cleaned everything it would have been allot easier. I think I'll just get him micro chipped next time I take him to the vet. Bird like kid can really be a pain in the butt sometimes

The thing is I didn't notice until afew moments ago and I cleaned his cage and the area around his cage rolled up all the news paper and wood chips a threw them in the garbage so I could have very easily chuck out his leg band also. I don't think he would have swallowed it but its definatly gone.

When I first got Darius he was wearing a legband I thought about getting it cut off but decided that as long as its not bothering him I'll just leave it. Well I was just playing with Darius and he no longer has a legband do you think that maybe he got it hooked on something and bit it off. I also notice that the feathers around that area are also gone I guess that could be from the band wearing them away or he plucked them out to get a better grip on the legband to bite it off do you think he could be strong enough to bite through a legband?

I cannot believe the amount of wood Darius can chew in no time flat I made him 4 huge toys and filled a large heavy wicker basket with the left over blocks of wood and other foot toys. he has gone through all of it the very first day he chewed through the rope that the toys where hung on so I just left them in his basket he seems to prefer that. Yesterday I went and bought him 3 more 2x3x10's untreated spruce 3paks of 50 small dowels 3 paks of wood cloths pegs 3 pak of ABC childrens wood blocks. hopfully this will last a couple weeks. The toys I made for him would have lasted my other birds 2 years they lasted him 2 weeks. I'm really going to need a lumber yard I don't even think I'll bother making toys for him I'll just cut up the wood in 2",3",and a few 4" peices and let him go to town he seems to like that better anyway. I'm definatly going to have to keep him well supplyed so he leaves my beautiful wood trim around my windows alone. thank goodness I can get the lumber for pretty cheep if I buy the stuff that not perfect its only .50 a board so 1.50 every 3or4 weeks is a small price to pay to keep my house in tact.<br><br>Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2009/08/24 17:06
