Karma to you for trying to help this beautiful bird to have a better more full filling life I took the same kind of bird in to my home 2 years ago her name is Tyco progress was slow and steady it took me 7 months for her to allow me to touch her feathers. Now she's a wonderful companion she love her kisses and scritches at night before bed she talks in context and is very smart. She accepts new things very quickly. She isn't a cuddly Grey but nor is she mean at all she has a sweet nature and really likes company. She doesn't shy away from anyone anymore she will put on the cutsy act for anyone willing to talk to her. She will only step up for me and if someone else trys she will step up but once she there she will give your finger a good bite usually not enough to break the skin but hard enough to know you've been bitten expect to be sore for awhile. You are doing something very wonderful and very rewarding I look forward to reading all your updates and I hope your new companion turns out as wonderful as mine has.

Harley is got to be the sweetest boy on the face of this earth. He's so Gentle with me and even when he doesn't want to do something he doesn't bite he just pushes me away. He just loves to cuddle up he he lays his back against mt stomach and puts his head on my chest and looks up at me with a big Macaw smile and rubs his face and head all over my hands I hold his head in my hand and give him scritches and beaky rubs what a big sweet baby he is. He's a great eater he isn't fussy at all but I have found that he doesn't eat much of his seeds I guess he ate to many of them over the past few years and wants to eat something else. He's also not to big on mushy foods he eats them after he mixes it up with his pellets so that its got some crunch:laugh: He a great watch bird also if someone or something comes into the yard he will let me know right away. He's not a screamer but he definatly can SCREAM he knocked my daughter right out of bed the other day she thought the house was falling in until she realized it was just Harley I was 4 rooms away from him and it sounded like he was standing next to me. Thank goodness he doesn't do that very often his little squwaks to let me know somethings around are plenty loud enough for me and usually its just 1 squwak and then he's okay again. The only problem I do have is putting him back into his cage he likes to be out he I can't really blame him he was locked up in a 32x24x36tall cage for far to long now he just want to sit on top of his cage and chew up blocks of wood cardboard boxes and wicker baskets. and snuggle up to a few times a day he loves to play peek a boo and tug of war and learn new things I'm teaching him Hi five or hi four in his case he learns things really quickly. He can Talk a little he can say hello, I love you, comere and whatcha doin and want some. thats about all I've heard. He loves music and loves to dance and he's a really good dancer I'll try and get a video tape of him soon. Well I think that's about it for now. Here's a new Picture of him taken Today. {Love-0002012C}

I know how hard it is to watch uneducated people do what the do to their birds. I just got a new Harlequin Macaw I don't know if you have read about it in the other birds room. But the woman I got him from Claimed she loves her birds but they sit in cages that are way to small with no toy and metal perches so they don't chew. She feeds them bulk parrot food and only a little bit twice a day because their dishes are too small for the holders so the birds dump them so she takes the dishes out when they are finised eating so they don't waste food. the cages are held together with coat hangers instead of nuts and bolt because the birs unscrewed them and she couldn't find them so instead of buying new ones a peice of coat hanger twisted is what she used Idon't think she ever heard of heavy metal poisoning I know she has never once taken any of her birds to the vet ever. She says she loves them but has never taken the time to educate herself on to proper way to look after a bird to me its abuse even if its not done malishisly thats why its important to do research before taking on the responsibility of these wonderful creatures. It makes me mad also but theres not much we can do about it I did give her a few books that I had hopfuly she will read them but she probubly won't.

I gave you Karma for taking in an older bird that grey't one of my Greys has very dark charcoal color and her flight feather are so dark they almost look black some are just really dark and some are almost silver. Greys take a long time to adapt to a new enviroment she sounds like shes got a wondeful laid back personality and that good she probubly will come around sooner than most because of it. Very pretty Grey you have there I must say I look forward to updates and pictures

Allot of birds get grouch during a molt its itchy and uncomfortable for them and those new pin feathers hurt when you touch them. I wouldn't worry as soon as she finishes molting she will be back to her old self again. Lots of baths will help soften those pin feathers to help them grow in faster.

I did get a wonderful birthday present though I got my dream bird a Large Macaw. I always wanted a Greenwing or a B&G for as long as I could remember. I didn't get one but i did get both I got a Harlequin:laugh:

Well Its going to take patients and love but the end results are going to be so rewarding. I love baby's they are cuddly and sweet. But there is something about rehomed birds and rescue birds that makes them so very special and you won't see that until a year or so down the road but when you look back on it you will be so happy that you have her. All your hard work will pay off 100 fold when your bird tells you I love you or just flys over so she can rub her fluffed up head against your hand and looks up at you with nothing but love in her eyes. Be careful rescueing birds can be addicting because its so rewarding when you've gained their love.

Wonderful Pictures it sounds like Tigerlily had a grey't time on her vacation also. She must be a total joy to be able to take it all in stride and not get stressed out.

That was awesome thanks for sharing that too cool -
Thats wonderful news no bird should have to live in a pet store congrates what are you going to name her I hear Hahns Macaws are very much like their larger cousins and also think they are really big birds.
-
Its not your fault many birds get car sick. My daughters GCC for one gets car sick all the time. Its horrible when you have to take them to the vet because they are sick and then they get car sick on top of it. Poor baby's.

Grey't video just loved it. I couldn't Imagine how much TP I'd go through with 6 birds if I started giving it to them to play with. I would have to start buying it by the truckload {Feel-good-0002006E}

I think if the Neighbours don't like it they should move. unless the bird are sreaming before 8am or after 10pm then they cannot do anything about it I live fairly close to my neighbour and she says she never hears my birds and the lady across the street say's that in the winter when the windows are all closed she misses hearing my birds chatting away. Mind you I didn't have Harley yet either He's pretty quiet unless he see some one or some animal out the window and then he lets out 1 very very loud scream but thats only mabie 1or2 times a day. If I was that woman I would say if you don't like it move because my birds are staying. I'm sure the wild birds make just as much noise as her bird only they are up at the crack of dawn and you don't hear them complaning about them.
-
Omg I so happy that you have him safe and sound I would take him to the vet he's so young to have been without water and food for so long. I'm so glad that you have him home if you seen him land in that tree why would you not get a ladder and go up there to see if he was hiding up there some where. I guess it doesn't matter now the main thing is that he is home safe and sound thank goodness. Keep widows and doors shut until you get screens for them. God is good he answers prayers.

I live in British Columbia Canada and although we do experience the 4 seasons we don't get as much snow as the eastern provinces we get about a month where its very cold and snowy and that's about it we do get allot of rain in the fall and winter months but I'd rather have rain than snow you don't have to shovel rain. My birds stay indoors in the winter and so I try to include more foods with natural vitamin D3. Because our winter are fairly short and the spring starts around March on warmer spring days the birds can go out for a half an hour or so and warn weather lasts right through until the middle of October so its not to bad. I think washington State gets similar weather to ours so I don't think it will be to hard for your bird to adjust.
-
It depends allot on your birds personality and weather of not you trust your bird to be on your shoulder. If he comes down when you ask and doesn't ni at you when he's up there then having him on your shoulder is fine. I let my baby on my shoulder she will step up everytime I ask and so its fine TYco my other Grey is not permitted on my shoulder I cannot trust her not to bite.It really depends on the bird.

Yes my dogs are really good that way for some reason they don't like it when the birds are not ontheir play stands or cages. I used to breed Gloria my shith-zu and now she mothers all the birds she watches them very closely when they are wandering around she will step in front of them if someone doesn't see them so they don't get stepped on. she's just a little mother hen(dog)
