  1. Hello Meadsy and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and your Tag, have you named him yet? I sounds like he is probably getting enough time out of his cage but you can allow him more time if you are at home, get a portable perch and put him on that and take him with you around the house as he does need at least 4 to 5 hours out a day. If he is not settling down when you put him in for sleep you can either get something bigger to cover the cage so he cannot see out or get you a travel cage that you can use for a sleep cage and put it somewhere where he can have it quiet and darkness. Some of the other members will give you some more ideas and suggestions for what you should or should not be doing. Please read thru the many threads for lots of useful information and do not hesitate to ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. If you have some pictures of your Tag you would like to share with us we would love to see them.
  2. Nice picture of Pepper, the snuggler, you really are a lucky woman Brittany, thanks for sharing that with us.
  3. Hello Doris and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Layla. It would help if you could find out a little more information from where she came from but if not then you will just have to do the best you can, just be prepared for it won't be something that can be fixed in a short period of time. I would guess she was left alone a lot and not given the attention she needed so she turned to other things to keep her busy, poor thing was probably calling out in frustration for being left alone. I think you will have to put up with some squawking for a while until she learns she gets nothing for it but get lots when she is quiet. Ignore her when she is loud but praise her very much when she is quiet and she will eventually learn that quietness brings rewards. Give her a treat or praise her when she is quiet. This won't be too difficult a task if you possess a lot of patience for you are going to need it. If she has been plucking all these ten years then it has become a habit and it may be next to impossible to get her to completely stop but no harm in trying. We do have some members here who have a plucker or have dealt with pluckers before and maybe they will chime in with their ideas and suggestions for you. In the meantime read thru the many threads for lots of useful and helpful information and do ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. If you have some pictures of Layla you would like to share with us we would love to see them.
  4. OMG, what is the world coming to when a man is proud of a puke stain on his pants, ROFLMAO:woohoo:  :woohoo:
  5. Congrats Steph on getting a good deal on a cage and you usually can at those bird shows and your baby is coming home Saturday, I know you are getting so anxious. I have never bought any toys off ebay, I have always bought new toys that have never been used by another parrot, I think I would be a little leary too especially if it had parts that you could very well wash or sterlize. You know you can get some great toys in the baby section of stores, a lot of them are suitable for greys and much cheaper. I look forward to hearing more about the homecoming of your new baby and seeing some pictures of course.
  6. Weekend at Bernies - Andrew McCarthy
  7. Congrats Dave on your new baby grey and she is a cutie. I would wait until you bring her home and something about her personality will bring a name to mind. Thanks for sharing a picture of her with us.
  8. I am so glad that Chopper is doing much better so now why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us some more about you and Chopper and maybe some pics.
  9. Thats Josey too Dan, she does not show any interest in any kind of music, I guess we have two that have no rhythm, they just play to their own beat.
  10. Tyco looks like a queen looking out over her domain, she is gorgeous Pat, thanks for sharing a couple of pics of her with us.
  11. You got that right Sarah, the louder the TV or music is, the louder Koko will be, he does not want to be drowned out by something other than him.
  12. Miss Bella is a real cutie, no wonder you are so proud of her and she chose you. I would have been tempted to take the other one too but you probably made the right choice, thanks for sharing her with us.
  13. Hello Rockysmum and welcome to the family, so glad you found us and could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Rocky. I hear ya, I too thought this forum was going to be so hard to learn how to navigate but you soon learn and then comes the easy part. So how old is Rocky, how long have you had him, is he DNA'd a male, did you get him as a baby? Just curious about some things to get to know you better. You will find lots of useful information in our many threads so read thru them at your leisure and do not hesitate to ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. I assume that is Rocky in your avatar but if you have some other pictures you would like to share with us we would love to see them.
  14. Basic Instinct - Michael Douglas
  15. Hello Kar2nz and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Casper. My you have 3 sun conures, I only have one and she is a handfull but she was my first parrot and I guess she is about 4 years old now. She can be quite a character and clown so I can imagine that 3 would be a circus. Well you have certainly came to the right place if you need some info on greys, we have many knowledgeable members who are willing to go above and beyond to help one another out with helpful advice. You will find lots of useful information in our many threads so do read thru them at your leisure and do not hesitate to ask any and all questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. If you have some pictures of Casper you would like to share with us we would love to see him. We also have an other birds room where you can share some of the conures if like, I personally like the sun conures a lot.
  16. OMG, look at that adorable sweet little baby grey, its so precious looking and I know you can hardly wait for the day you can bring it home, thanks for sharing a baby pic with us.
  17. Casper might just need a little more time to settle into a new home and feel comfortable, greys are slower to adjust to new surroundings and a new owner. But I agree, that diet has got to go and it may take a while to wean him off his "Chef Boyardee" diet but it can be done. Offer him some of what you feed your other birds, he might not eat much or any of it for a while but I think sooner or later he will and maybe gradually he will start eating more healthy. You can continue to give him what he will eat but less and less over time. Some birds will refuse the good stuff for some time then finally start eating it so keep trying. Why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us some more about you and your flock, especially Casper.
  18. Andrew, some parrots do have to be shown how to play with toys and maybe that is all that is needed here. You need to get some of the toys out and play with them yourself to show them how much fun you are having so they cannot resist joining in.
  19. Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I think its only white potatoes that are not to be fed raw. Taken from another post in the bird food room: ""Sweet potato - Raw or slightly microwaved (45-60 seconds per sweet potato). It tastes sweeter that way, but is still crunchy and appetizing.""<br><br>Post edited by: judygram, at: 2009/02/09 02:51
  20. Then he is bringing much joy and happiness into your life so he is settling in nicely and going to be spoiled like all the others here on the forum.
  21. Go for it Jim, I don't see why not. I have always cooked the sweet potatoes for my grey as that is how I eat them but if they will eat them raw then why not, might be a change.
  22. Happiness, goofiness, dancing to music or whatever floats their boat, they all have their reasons.
  23. Do you need an intervention Dan, OMG:woohoo:
  24. By all means take your tiel to see an avian vet especially if you suspect she may be in pain but that eye needs attending to and that probably accounts for her sitting in one spot for lengths of time. Let us know what you find out Gudrun.
