WOW Kim better watch out tomorrow, lover boy Dan has something very special planned, watch that evening stuff, remember your age, ha ha:laugh: Well I just got flowers at work, didn't expect them this year because of the economy but I guess he wanted to do his part to keep the florists in business, but they are lovely. To all my forum men I hope you all have a lovely Valentines Day and I love you all dearly.

Hello Sidney and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and this grey you hope to adopt. Why is this Tag being given up for adoption and have you ever had a grey before? You have come to the right place to find out all you can before you bring this grey home especially if you have never had one before. Our threads are full of useful information on the care, feeding and well being of greys so read thru them at your leisure and do ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. The bird food room is full of threads that tell what you should be feeding your bird and also has a list of things not to feed that are toxic to our birds. -
Gary if you do a search for playstands you will find lots of threads especially in the toy and playstand room, we have them made from different materials.

Thats going to be a really nice looking bird cage and your grey already likes it,so when will it be finished?
-
Suedazwood, why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us some about you and your grey.
-
You can search for breeders by state on this site: www.avianbiotech.com

Sometimes greys will change who their favorite is even without the change in schedule but it seems your husband is her favorite now. Don't put your hands into her cage to get her, let her come out on her own, greys can get very protective of their cages and if you invade her territory you may suffer the consequences. If you want to handle her you need to get over your fear of being bitten, she can sense that in you and she acts accordingly. We have some threads here that deal with these problems you described and others will chime in with their ideas and suggestions for you. In the meantime why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us some more about you and your grey, like what is her name?
-
Yeah Dan, we could have done without that one and I am sure Dayo does a very good one too for he has a good teacher:woohoo:

Hello Brad and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and your grey to be. You are doing all the right things in finding out everything you can before you actually get the bird, so many don't and that is why they either have a lot of problems or the bird winds up in a rescue situation. You will find a lot of the answers to your questions in our many threads so do read thru them at your leisure and ask all the questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. Diet needs and calcuim requirements will be found in the bird food room and you may find a lot of helpful info in the nursery room as well. I can tell you that the cage should be in the room where the family spends the most time, they like to be with the flock and I do not think that placing the cage in front of a window is best as they are more likely to see predators and will be scared of them even though there is a glass between. Two more rooms you will find helpful are the toy making room and the training room, so browse thru them all, that should be enough to keep you busy for a while.

Just continue to offer him these foods and when he is ready to eat them he will, you can also try some pellets to see if he will eat some of those. I wouldn't worry too much about trying to get him to eat the seed, offer plenty of veggies, a wide variety and prepared in different ways.

Oh Debi they do it because they can:laugh: It becomes a game to them to tip it over and send the human flock scurrying to pick it up or clean it up, my what fun. You may have to revert to the kind of bowls that clamp onto the cage bars that they can't tip or remove. My Josey does this when she has her evening meal on the playstand, she removes the cup from the ring holder and dumps it as if to say I am done with it.
-
I'm pretty sure greys are incapable of having hiccups but they sure can mimic most any sound, are you sure Kharsen isn't just copying what he has heard? I know Josey has mimiced a good cough, sneeze, snort, clearing the throat, laughing and other bodily sounds too numerous or embarrassing to mention.

Hello Mark and welcome to the family, so glad you found us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Paco. So your grey has some bad habits, don't they all but some are just part of having a grey as a companion and what bird doesn't poop. Face facts, all birds poop, they drop that morning bomb, the biggest of the day and then they poop every so often throughout the day, there is no way to stop that but they can be trained to do their poops in a specific container or at a designated place. There are things you can do to minimize the chances of being bitten, one is to pay attention to their body language and respect when the want a little space. Greys are usually one of the quieter birds with several times a day when they are more vocal, if yours is making a lot of noise then you may have to find out what is going on to make him so vocal. You will find lots of useful information in our many threads and do ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. If you have some pictures of Paco you would like to share with us we would love to see him.

Thats wonderful Gina that you could take over for your best friend as the new Rescue Director, you are performing a much needed service as I can well imagine with today's economy the way it is. Larry is a real sweetheart it seems, who wouldn't melt at that conversation you had with him, thanks for sharing a couple pictures of him with us and I look forward to hearing more about the adventures of Larry.

I have no idea about the plasma tv as I don't have one but maybe some of the other members will have some information for you soon. My daughter has one but then she doesn't have any birds either.

Hello Dr. Moghadam and welcome to the family, so glad you have decided to join us and we look forward to hearing more about you. You are more than just friends, you are part of our family for that is how we feel about our members here and you will find we are a friendly bunch and of course we welcome a veterinarian especially one that specializes in bird diseases. Your expertise could be most helpful for some of our members who have problems as most of us just go on our experiences with our own greys. Do you have a grey or any kind of birds as pets? Just curious to what you have as pets but it is not a requirement to be a part of this forum for you certainly have a love for birds or they wouldn't be your speciality.

 And probably worse things than puke too:lol: Gotta love those Marines:kiss:
-
Congrats on your decision to get this grey and by all means call him Art, just take your time with this bird and you will be rewarded with his trust, now we would like to see some pictures when you get the chance.

I have given my grey chicken bones before and she cracks them right up with no problem to get to the marrow inside which is very nutritious to them, just be sure to supervise when they have them to be on the safe side.
-
Nice pictures of Kharsen, thanks for sharing them with us Rachel.
-
Aw Pat your tiels are very pretty too and I notice in your last pic that there is some red stuff on the finger that looks like blood, hope it isn't from one of the tiels but thanks for sharing them with us.

They can be if not properly socialized especially when they are young but we have many members here who have greys that get along with all members of their family. Most do have different relationships with each member of the family and a lot of them do bond with one member more than with others but they are not strictly one person birds. You bond with your bird by taking care of its needs, spending time with and playing with your bird, talking to them a lot and giving treats from time to time, basically letting your bird know they can count on you for their well being.

Hello Gordon and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and your parrot quest. What made you decide to choose a grey out of all the types of birds you could have? Was it their ability to talk? I am not necessarily trying to talk you out of it but I want you to understand what you are dealing with as deciding to get yourself a grey is not just something you wake up one day and choose that option. You should do a lot of reading and research about the grey and decide if one will fit in with your lifestyle, greys need lots of attention and out of cage time. They have a long life, living to 50+ years so it is a lifetime committment and you need to be sure this is what you want so the bird does not have to be rehomed later when you find out it does not. By reading thru the many threads you will find lots of useful information on owning, feeding, housing, toys for and socializing your baby grey.
