Hello Karunk and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us. Thats not a good idea to put the cage into the garage, it needs to be put in the house where most of the activity is and not because of the cold. The grey needs to be with the rest of the family.

They should be able to play with them if they can perch, but playing with them on their own differs from one grey to another. Some play on their own a lot and some are more inclined to want someone to play with them or with them with the toys. What kind of toys have you provided for Shadow? Maybe they aren't the kind he prefers, some like things they can destroy, some like things they can make noise with like bells. You might have to observe and see what types of toys Shadow prefers and provide more of that type.

Dan has pretty much answered your questions, the chest quivering is normal and holding up one foot is too. You obviously don't know much about the grey but we will change that, just read thru the threads here and you will find the answers to most of your questions, do a search with a couple of key words and all kinds of threads will pop up for you to read. Its like having a new baby in the house but you seem like you want to learn and I bet in no time at all you will be very knowledgeable about the grey.

Hello From North Mississippi
judygram replied to kayleetyler2's topic in Welcome & Introduction Room
Hello Kayleetyler2 and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Abbie. You are so right, she does need time to settle into her new home especially considering she is 6 years old, just give her plenty of time and lots of patience and I am sure she will come around to her old self soon. I would be interested to hear the circumstances surrounding her ending up in your care, have you ever had an african grey before or have you ever had any kind of parrots before? You will find lots of useful information in our many threads and do ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. Thanks for including a picture of Abbie in your intro post, saves us from having to ask for one, she looks like she has some red factor in her feathers. -
She has chosen you are her favorite and that is fine but she can still have a relationship with the other members of the family but not like the one she has with you. A lot of greys are like this including mine. When you first brought her home she was going thru the honeymoon phase where she was accepting of most everyone but now that she has settled in she is showing her true preferences. This will most likely not change but you can let the other members be the ones to give her treats. How long have you had her and do you have any other birds in your house?

Hello Elyse and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Sophie. I think she just wants your attention and I can imagine she is getting it too. She looks great from the picture in your avatar, have you spoiled her rotten yet? You will find lots of useful information in our many threads so read thru them and do not hesitate to ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. You know we love pictures here so if you have any others of Sophie you would like to share with us we would love to see them.

I enjoyed that so much, Zazu is so spoiled rotten but it is so cute to see them like that, thanks for sharing that with us, you must feel so honored.

I look forward to seeing them when you get around to it, thanks.B)

And did she go poop?

He must be playing roughly with the dogs or more likely they are playing rough with him, I would assume you are supervising all play of Bobo and the dogs, I wouldn't want to hear of anything happening to Bobo.
-
You have a lovely Congo grey and he does look like he is chewing his flight feathers, thanks for sharing him with us.

Yes Deanna that vet wrap is ok to use and in any color as the colors would make it more interesting, if you do a search here on this site you will find other playstands made out of pvc pipe that will give you some other ideas for shapes and so forth. I believe the feeders are part of the piping as well. Why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us some about you and your grey if you have one.

Happy Hatchday Keeko and I know your Mum is making that a special day for you and what a wonderful hatchday it is for he has brought much love into Caroline's life so he is kind of a Valentines present in a way. Hope you have a lovely day and what a beautiful bird you have become, thanks Caroline for sharing him with us.

Hello Beco and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Cocco. Sounds like you have a normal grey who picks and chooses who their favorites are and you got left out but not all is lost. You may never be able to do the things that the women of your household do with him but you two can get along together. You need to be the one to give him treats so he has that to associate with you being close to him aand when you have him for those 2 weeks don't force yourself on him, if he doesn't want to be touched then back off, give him some space but do talk to him and play with some of his toys to show him you aren't going to hurt him and he should be more receptive of you. You will find lots of useful information in our many threads so read thru them at your leisure and do not hesitate to ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. We love to look at pictures here and if you have some of Cocco you would like to share with us we would be most grateful.

You must be in the southeast portion of the US as I am in the same area myself and am familiar with Phoenix Landing, I have never taken in one of their rescues but do know of some who have and the organization does good work. Grady is his own little man and I am glad you could give him a home and it looks like you two are doing nicely, thanks for what you have done.

Not sure if this is multiple choice but it looks like it, the answer is A, they can cry a reddish tear when stressed or restrained. This is a wonderful topic Dan and a good way to learn some more interesting facts about our precious greys, karma coming your way for thinking of it.

Darwin is such a precious looking grey baby, so adorable at this age, thanks for sharing a few pics of him with us and that is great that you can visit so often.

Greys for the most part are quiet birds, they are vocal at several times during the day but we do have several members here who say their grey is very noisy. I have a sun conure that is more noisy than Josey, she is fairly quiet then she has her social times where she talks, whistles and makes her mimics of other sounds. When I cover her at night for sleep I do not hear any more out of her, no sounds at all except she goes to her water bowl for a drink before retiring to her perch but it is all in the routine you get into.
-
Its up to you Rissa if you want separate cages for your grey, one for sleeping and one for during the day. I only have one cage for Josey except for her travel cage but she sleeps in the big cage in the family room, I have never used a separate cage for sleeping. Some here do use a separate cage for sleeping but I wouldn't want my grey in the bedroom with me either.

Gina you are doing such a good job as Director of the rescue society and it is a job that not everyone could do, I know I could not handle it. This poor bird breaks my heart to look at him in the shape he is in but maybe he will turn for the better now that he is out of that situation. Thanks for sharing a pic of him with us and maybe a few months down the road you could post another of him to let us see how he progresses, I hope he finds a loving home.
-
Mmmmmm, that sounds scrumptious, I love anything chocolate!!:woohoo:
-
Thats really wonderful to hear that you taught him to shake hands, now what other tricks are you going to teach him? Thanks for sharing your story with us.
-
That bird needs to be seen by an avian vet to prevent any infection from setting in and those birds should have their own individual cages even if they do get along for you never know what could happen if one of them gets up on the wrong side of the bed. Why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us some more about you and your bird, I assume it is a grey.

Hello Wolfeagle and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Grady Grey. I also have a sun conure, she can be a pain in the a** sometimes but she is a cuddlebug who loves nothing better than to sit on my shoulder. So how old is Grady Grey and how long have you had him? You will find lots of useful information in our many threads and do ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. If you have some pictures of Grady you would like to share with us we would love to see him and we have an other birds room where you may share some of your othere birds if you like.
