Hello Scarlett and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and your new-to-you grey. What is her name? I'm so glad you could give this grey a new home, they do need attention and if her former owner didn't have enough time for her then I am sure she will get it now in her new surroundings. That is partly a myth about them only liking one sex over another, I think it is more of an individual thing but the both of you should continue to work with her as it will keep her socialized and maybe not have one favorite as some are prone to do. Have you had the eclectus all 7 years? They are beautiful birds and I have considered getting one but then I talk myself out of it, I have a grey and a sun conure and do not think I can bring another bird into the house and give each enough attention. Please read thru the many threads for lots of useful information and do ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. If you have some pictures of your grey and eclectus you would like to share with us we would love to see them.

If you are talking about that strip of red that runs below his eye yes I see it and I still recommend you see an avian vet about it, it might be bruising but I wouldn't want to run the risk, at least call about it.
-
That looks to me like Kaskoo needs some antibiotics for that eye, looks swollen above the eye and that is no cold, he needs to be seen by an avian vet.

Thats usually why we use photobucket because you can resize them before posting, I don't know what format you have your photos in on your computer but if you could put them in a program that you can resize them then you will have it made.

Maybe this will help you with posting pictures Carol, try it and see. To attach a picture to your post, you have to be in the FULL REPLY page not the quick reply that's usually down at the bottom of a thread. Toward the bottom there will be an option to 'select Image file to attach'. Click on the browse button, and select the picture from your computer. Then when you finish typing your post, hit submit, and it should show up in your post.

I have never heard of it but I am going to run right out and get some and try it, hope I get the results you got, I need all the help I can get at my age. Just what kind of incredible change did you see?

You know I thought that thing looked familiar, I will have to check out Lowes for one or something similar, thanks for the great ideas.

Nice bike and is Cleopatra the woman or the bike? -
Hello Carol and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and your birds. I am impressed with the toys you are making, you have a very creative mind and we have a homemade toy and playstand room where you can share all those toys with us and include pictures too as some of us older folks need all the help we can get. What kind of birds do you have? Is one of them a grey? You do not need to own a grey to be a member here, just a love for the species and I would say you qualify with six birds. You will find lots of useful information in our many threads so do read thru them at your leisure and do ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. We would love to see some pictures of your birds, we have an other birds room where you can post them.

I could make one of those for Josey, I have that part in the middle, I think it is called the sneaky beaky, the orange and purple thing. Now what did you use for the top part, the white thing the other parts and whig=ffle balls are hanging from? This is an excellent looking toy and if your birds are enjoying it then Josey might too, thanks for sharing that toy with us, you are very creative.

Vet visit,,,,,,,Shadow is in perfect health
judygram replied to RoadSpawn's topic in The GREY Lounge
Thats great news that Shadow is a healthy bird and she must be something else as now your vet is "in love" with her too, she is a heart stealer. My vet recommends the pellets be 60 to 70% of their diet, I am surprised that your vet recommends 90%, thats a lot but then who am I to argue with your vet. Wow the vet visit was free, you dang skippy that is way cool. I think we had some other threads that discussed the use of bottlebrush branches for play gyms and such, you would have to bake them in the oven at 350 for at least half an hour to get rid of any bugs and such that are present and make sure they were never treated with pesticides. -

Oh my Donna, you are in a dilemma and I don't have any answers for you either as I have never dealt with this issue before. That is amazing in one way that the two birds get along so well, wow, who would have thought a grey and a macaw having such a tight bond. I know you hate to give them up but I understand the tough times we are in and you have no choice. I would tend to say to try to separate them now so they can start to get used to being apart from each other if that is what is going to happen to them anyways for I would like for you to be able to keep the grey if at all possible. Some of the other members who have had more experience with this sort of problem will have some ideas and suggestions for you but none of them will be easy for you I am afraid. This is a difficult situation for sure.

Pax has a British accent, that is so cute, pretty soon she will be saying those "bloody buggers"

I'm thinking too that allowing the previous owner to come and visit with Vontease may not help the transition, it could make it worse for her, it might confuse her as she might think they are gonna take her home. Sometimes it is best to make a clean break especially if they had a tight bond. If you do allow them to visit pay close attention to how she reacts for if you get any kind of feeling that it is stressful for her then cut the visit short and explain why you are doing so. The welfare of Vontease has to be the highest priority right now and not the former owner.
-
He has a cold huh and the vet only gave you vitamins to put in his water, I would keep an eye on him and I hope he gets well soon, thanks for letting us know.
-
I can't wait to see what you come up with, I need to make something more myself for Josey to play on.
-
It could be a while before they grow back in, maybe when he goes thru his next molt, just be patient and they will appear.
-
Simba is a nice looking grey, I checked out the pictures in the link provided, I also like the name Simba, you made a very good choice, thanks for sharing some pictures of him with us.

I have that dvd and haven't watched it yet:blush: but I will and let you know what I think of it.

Why don't I ever see my grey drink water?
judygram replied to PekingeseMama's topic in The GREY Lounge
I don't see my grey drink a lot either but I am sure she is drinking some water, they don't need a lot as they get some of what they need from the veggies and fruits they eat, she is doing it while you are not looking. As long as she looks fine I wouldn't worry about it. -
Be sure to have this grey checked out by an avian vet to rule out any physical reason for the plucking but lets hope when he comes home with you and he gets the love and attention he needs he will no longer pluck. Those feathers will take time to come in especially the flight feathers so be patient. If you could get us a picture of him then we might be able to tell whether he plucked his tail or not, just an idea.

Hello Kljohnso and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and this new grey. When you join you are part of our grey family here and you will be treated as such, you are no longer a stranger on the internet as we all have a common bond here. He may have been plucking because of the loss of his sibling or it may be inattention also, there are many reasons for plucking and I would have him checked out by an avian vet as soon as you can after bringing him home to rule out any physical reasons and to make sure he is healthy. Clipping the wings too early has devasting effects on greys as we have observed here many times, they should be allowed to fully fledge and learn to fly before any wings are clipped if at all. You will find a lot of us leave our greys fully feathered and they fly throughout the house at will. Since this is your first grey be sure to read thru the many threads here for lots of useful and helpful information and do not hesitate to ask any and all questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. When you get a chance and especially after you bring Simba home get us some pictures so we can see him, even if he is missing some of his feathers we can see his true beauty.
