  1. I don't think any bird lover could read that book and not shed a few tears at the end, yes you do know what happens but it is so moving to read it.
  2. Since Ty is 15 years old he is almost an adult, certainly an adult size and since he has been allowing the cockatiel on his shoulder why stop now, make the boy's day when he comes home from school, he will love you for it.
  3. Why don't you try mixing a little apple juice into a small amount of pellets and see if she will try them that way, if she does then you can gradually wean her off having to soak them first in the juice. I was lucky with Josey as she took to the pellets right off but keep offering them to her as sometimes it takes a while for them to eat them. You can also try putting them into soft foods you feed, like applesauce or bake them into birdie bread and the like.
  4. You have a wonderful looking bunch of birds, love that Indian ring neck, such pretty colors. Your baby grey is precious also and if you get to that formula before it dries it comes off better. Thanks for sharing some pictures of your flock, they are all gorgeous.
  5. Hello Mamagray and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Akila. Sometimes I or my hubby can have a conversation with our Josey but most of the time she is amusing herself with her chatting but I love listening to her. I grew up on a farm and we had lots of animals too but the usual ones, cows, pigs, chickens, dogs and cats but no horses or anything out of the ordinary. Please read thru the many threads for lots of useful information and do ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. If you have some pictures of Akila you would share with us we would love to see them.
  6. You have a very nice looking Cag, Mr Shah is a handsome fella, thanks for sharing a pic of him with us.
  7. I would say he had just drank some water or ate something that has a lot of water in it, I wouldn't worry at this point unless it continues. Moody huh, they can have bad days just like we do and as far as not wanting to go back into the cage, maybe he likes it better out, but in any case the moderator of this room will be along shortly and give an expert opinion.
  8. Mamagray, why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us a little about you and your grey.
  9. Hello Aubri and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and this new grey. Well you certainly have some bird experience although having a grey in the house is different, he/she will require more attention and personal time but you seem to have thought this thru. Greys need a large cage especially if they spend a lot of time in it but whenever no one is home they do need to be caged for there is too much for them to get into if left out. I would suggest you go for the larger cage because there are going to be times he/she will have to be left when everyone has to be out at the same time, we all have those times. Please read thru the many threads for lots of useful information and do ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. Do you have any pictures of this little one that you would share with us as we would love to see it?
  10. Hello Aglover09 and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Boo bird. Yes you need to give him plenty of time for he has been thru a lot lately and it takes time to gain the trust of an older grey. Don't force anything on him, let him set the pace but with much love and attention he will come around. You will find lots of useful information in our many threads so please read thru them and do not hesitate to ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. If you have some pictures of Boo bird you would like to share with us we would love to see him.
  11. I wholeheartedly agree with Sheila, they don't need a wing clip every other week, thats BS, you should allow his wings to grow out and let him fly. I see no harm in allowing a tiel on the shoulder of your stepson, if he treats the bird gently and they get along fine then no harm is done, if the bird gets nippy then he simply has to remove him for a while.
  12. Hello Dawn and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and your desire to own a grey. I commend you for doing the research and finding out all you can before you actually put money down on one, they require much care and lots of attention and should not be purchased on a whim like some are. You need to find out if one is a good fit for you and your family for once you get one its for a long time, it is truly a lifetime committment. You will find lots of useful information in our many threads so please do read thru them and do ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can.
  13. Yes it is low but you need to find out more information before making a decision.
  14. That particular cage is used by a lot of the members and is a good cage, seems to be a good price too.
  15. Thanks for sharing these with us Rachel they are beautiful, another artist I really like is Erik Peake, he lives in Wales and does excellent work, he will be at the BCV convention in Virginia Beach in April and I am going to see him there.
  16. More nice pics of Kharsen, that last one looks like he is contemplating, "wonder if I should check out those cords and see if they are good to eat"
  17. As far as showering or bathing your baby I would wait until he/she is fully feathered. You can continue to do as you are with wiping off the formula and using a wet soft cloth to get the stuff while it is still wet and easier to remove, let it dry and it will be like trying to remove concrete. As far as posting pictures a lot of us use photobucket and put our photos there and then just put the link, you will find information in the photography room, there are two threads that deal with posting pics.
  18. This is exciting Tiffany and you are about to embark on a wonderful journey, finding that perfect grey, if possible get one locally so you can go visit and let the one pick you out if there are more than one available. Keep us informed of what you find out.
  19. Hello Alizeh and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and your two greys. It sounds like you really have your hands full with an almost adult grey and now a baby grey, each requires much time from you and the one is not really very friendly. Mr Shah seems to need a lot more work to make him more comfortble in his home, does he get any out of cage time? It sounds like he has not bonded with you yet but you will have to work on that and that takes time. Your new baby is the opposite right now for he is a baby and they are more willing to cuddle and will bond with you quicker because of that age. I would be careful of letting the dogs too near especially since one of them wants to lick it, dog saliva contains bacteria that could make the grey very sick or kill it but you need tosupervise any out of cage time when the dogs are around. Please read thru the many threads for lots of useful information and do ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. If you have some pictures of these two greys you would like to share with us we would love to see them.
  20. Thanks Dan but this needs to be in a more conspicuous spot to be seen by more people than buried in this thread.

  22. You are so lucky in that respect to have a vet tech that lives nearby as I would be uncomfortable with giving an injection to my bird.
  23. Hello Vicki and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and the new grey. Is this your first grey or first parrot? Like Shelia said all greys are individual and some like one type of toy and another likes something else entirely, you will just have to provide different types and see what your grey prefers. We also have a toy and playstand room where you will find lots of ideas and suggestions for toys you can make from common household articles so browse thru that room for lots of toy ideas. You will find lots of useful information in our many threads so do read thru them at your leisure and do ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. If you have any pictures of this baby you would like to share with us we would love to see them.
  24. I did enjoy them especially the last two where he was flying to you with the camera, thanks for sharing those with us.
  25. Kharsen is so handsome Rachel, thanksd for sharing him with us.
