I think a visit with an avian vet is exactly what you should do if he is becoming listless and has lost some weight and the sooner the better for birds hide illness until they no longer can, I would try to get one sooner than Thrusday if all possible. Not trying to scare you but sometimes by the time they show illness it is too late. Please update us with any further news and good luck to you and Sooty.

Going to be getting Mr Congo soon!
judygram replied to MrCongo's topic in Welcome & Introduction Room
Thats one nice looking severe macaw Jacqueline, sorry you didn't get your grey but you will in time, just enjoy Petrie for the time being and one day you will find your grey, I just know it. -
This is a website devoted to the love of the african grey, we do not sell birds here but we do share information with each other about our birds and ask questions if we have any. There is a lot to knowing how to breed birds especially greys, I think you should research elsewhere for advice about how to get into the business if that is what you want to do.

Thanks Carol, I may have to go to Walmart for a few things, I have some wooden shapes from another toy I was thinking of using for this.
-
Another greyt toy from the greatest toy maker of them all Carol, what type of rope did you use for this especially the red one? I may be able to make this, I have a couple of coconut halves from another toy.

I am so sorry to hear of the loss of Liefie but I hope he is being properly cared for wherever he is but do not give up hope, do whatever you can to find him and bring him home where he belongs.

Baby has grown up and is a good looking Cag, thanks Yvette for sharing your "Baby" with us. B)

Oh sorry, I just assumed that was your hubby, ok I will check it out.

She is back, finally, don't you just hate computers but then we wouldn't be able to keep in touch with each other without them, I can't do without mine which is why I have 2, a desktop and a laptop plus I have a blackberry, I stay connected but at a cost:ohmy::pinch:

Congrats Yvette and may you always be so happy as you look in your photo with your husband, what a cute couple. A lot has happened in your life, you will have to bring us up to date on everything.
-
WOW, what a toy and I bet they will play with this for hours, you continue to amaze me with your toy making skills, wish I had the time to make these myself but I am not very creative, not everyone is blessed with that trait but you certainly are, thanks for sharing that with us.

Looking for suggestions with new CAG baby
judygram replied to Jaiden's topic in Welcome & Introduction Room
Hello Jaiden and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and this new grey. I am so sorry you had to find a new home for your previous grey but if you haven't had much bird experience having an untamed grey could be a very traumatic experience for you and the grey, glad you found him a good home. Proper socialization is necessary for a grey to become more comfortable in their new home and will make for a happier bird and owner. You seem to have a sufficient cage and things necessary for a new arrival, I would sanitize them as well as you can before you put a new baby in. You will find a lot of information in our nursery room so be sure to browse thru and do read a lot of the threads for useful advice and ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. -
I wouldn't worry about it, as long as he is eating and pooping normal then he is fine, he just needs a little reassurance for some reason, give him what he wants and see if soon he is back to his old self. Why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us some about you and your grey?
-
Don't be such a worry wart:pinch: they will damage feathers sometimes especially when playing with their toys, mine can get very roudy with bells.
-
There is really no difference, each grey is an individual and as long as you get your bird socialized with all the family and with other people too then it makes no matter which you get. If there is more than one baby to pick from see if one will pick you, if one does then that is the one for you.

Yeah this sounds like a good game you got going and your reaction to it is only feeding the biting, he is having a good time but you will either have to keep your shoes on when at home or tell him firmly "No" and then turn your back on him for a bit, he will eventually get the message. I bet that is a sight for sore eyes to see!!
-
OMG, pretty soon the flood gates will be open and you won't be able to shut him up:laugh: way to go Indy, the first word is always most special.
-
I think that would be big enough, I wouldn't go any smaller and you can work with the 1/2 inch better than anything bigger so get to work and show us what you can do.B)

What a wonderful story David, amazing what our birds can do for us, thanks so much for sharing it with us.

Hello Carol and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and your new grey. This is an amazing website isn't it, I totally agree and I thank my lucky stars every day for bringing me here to form some great friendships with other grey owners and learn all about these wonderful creatures. You have your hands full with 4 kids, I imagine there is never a dull moment in your house and a sense of humor helps you thru the day as it does some of the rest of us, sometimes it is the only thing that keeps us sane.  You have already started to learn much there is to know by reading books on greys, subscribing to Bird Talk and you will learn all there is to know by reading thru the many threads we have here. We encourage you to ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. When you get to go see the grey babies if you could take a few pictures to share with us we would love to see them, we adore baby grey pics here.

Total neewbie to The Grey Forums...
judygram replied to Birddesss's topic in Welcome & Introduction Room
Hello Birddesss and welcome to the family, so glad you found this forum and we look forward to hearing more about you and your grey. BTW, what is the name of your grey? Most of us have more than one bird, some of us have more than one grey, I have a sun conure named Sunny along with my Cag named Josey and even though I would like to have another bird or two I think I may not have the time to devote to a another parrot so I am content with the two I got. Your husband just has a knack for handling birds, some people do who do not have any experience and then you encounter some who have experience who have trouble, it mostly depends on the individual bird. Please read thru the many threads for lots of useful information and do ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. I look forward to seeing some pictures of your grey and we have an other birds room where you can post some of the DYH if you like. -
It does take time to gain their trust so take it slow and easy, don't force yourself on her and it will happen soon enough. Remember small steps, it may not seem like much but a little at a time is the best way to go. As you do things around her tell her what you are doing, talk to her softly and let her get used to you being around, play with some of her toys so she can see you are having fun with them, she will get curious and want to know what you are playing with.

How old before you give pellets and fresh foods?
judygram replied to Superluvrgurl's topic in Bird Food
Erika is right, the nursery room would have that information but I would say it is while they are still in the weaning process after they have some feathers, you can offer them some and see if they will eat them. -
It is a Congo from the second picture because of the black beak and the red tail feathers.
