1. Does that sock work for plucking

2. Hello Forkeeps, I live in VA as well. Did you rescue your bird from Project Perry? My 3-yr old CAG plucks herself as well. The thing that seems to be working for Wilma is the "sock buddy". It is a sweater made from a sock. Here is a link. http://www.thesockbuddy.com/ The sock buddy gets pretty tattered since she plucks at it, but it is better than plucking at herself. It seems to "scratch the plucking itch" with her. Dave
3. My 3-yr old CAG is a plucker. She started shortly after she became two. I have tried everything that has been suggested. I have been using the "sock buddy" and it is working. Wilma's feathers are returning and she actually seems happier. She does tend to destroy one sock buddy a week but it is better than plucking herself. I also give her read palm oil. I mix three days dose with a scrambled egg and give it to her over a three day period. She loves scrambled eggs. I also have a humidifier running near her cage during the winter and a UV light. Just to warn you, Wilma destroyed her first two sock buddys within a day but now they last about a week. Just my two cents worth.
4. I don't know if this applies to Greys or not but my Grey, Wilma, always holds her food in her left claw (foot, hand). I first noticed it when only her left foot gets stained with stawberry juice (her favorite fruit). Has anyone else noticed this.
5. I feed my CAG, Wilma, pellets as her primary staple food. When she eats, she drops broken pellets and pellet "dust" back into her food cup. I have been dumping the cup out when I refill her cup with pellets. This seems to me to be somewhat wasteful because I end up dumping a lot of whole and half pellets with the "waste" when I do this. Should I be sifting out the small bits and "dust" and keeping the whole and half pellets in the cup or is that not good for Wilma?

Post edited by: davek85, at: 2009/03/31 20:15

peanuts

Ok, fine. More for me then!
7. I just had Wilma rechecked today and she got an all clear from the Vet.
8. My CAG, Wilma, talks more to my wife than me. I think it has to do with the fact that she has a higher pitched voice.

Wilma doesn't seem to know what to do with almonds in the shell. She takes it from me and then just drops it. I tried oening them a little but she still does nothing with them. Does she just not like them?
10. I just watched a video called "Captive Foraging" by Dr. Scott Echols. My vet loaned the video to me suggesting that I build a "foraging tree" for my CAG, Wilma. It looks real easy to do. I'm going to build one. It looks like fun for both Wilma and me. Has anyone else seen this video or built a foraging tree?
11. There were no symptoms. I took her to the vet within two days of getting her from the breeder. My vet didn't seem too concerned. She gave me two medications to feed Wilma and told me to bring a fresh fecal sample by for testing in two weeks. The medications were cheap ($25 total). I let the breeder know about the problem.
12. I just took my new CAG Wilma to the vet on Friday. The vet said she was in great health except for some intestial parasites. The vet said she had Coccidia and round worms. The vet said that this is common and gave use medicne to treat her. Has anyone else had this problem?
13. Ok here is the picture of Wilma and me. It took me three tries to get it posted....Four tries..

Post edited by: davek85, at: 2009/02/13 12:41
14. Wilma is home! I picked her up on Wednesday. She has settled in very well. Boy, what a sweet bird! MJ (the breeder) sure raised a very sociable bird. She loves to be with everyone in the family. Boy I tell you I am so glad I got her. I had debated long and hard about whether to get her or an Amazon. I made the right choice! Here is a picture of her on my shoulder. Post edited by: davek85, at: 2009/02/13 12:32

Post edited by: davek85, at: 2009/02/13 12:34
