1. He is so cute I bet he was fun to take care of I would have big trouble not keeping him what a little sweetie. I wonder why they are so hard to breed 1 out of 3 isn't very good odds. I wonder if its like that in the wild as well.

Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2009/07/01 19:54
2. I Love my Severe Macaw he is the most animated funny bird I was putting him to bed tonight and he was a bit excited and beaked my shoulder a little bit to hard it hurt a little so I said no bite put him on his sleep cage and turned my back and walked away. . Then I hear where you going why you not talk I love you kiss kiss. I Was having a very hard time keeping a straight face he was so cute. So I went back in and said no bite mommy and he said in a real puzzled voice no bite you as if to say I didn't bite you what are you talking about. He has a huge vocabulary and he makes me laugh so hard some time. Severe Macaws are just the best.:laugh: {Love-0002012D}

Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2009/07/01 07:38
3. Grey't picture Dave Adaya does the chicken scratch thing in her seed dish she send seeds flying everywhere. I find she does it when I cover her at night or when she hears my up in the morning she will scratch in her seed bowl to let me know she wants to get out of her cage. she gets up a couple hours before the other birds so we have our quality time then
4. This is what Tyco was up to today while I was taking a shower. Ya just can't leave them alone for even 5 minutes without them getting them selves into mischeif:evil: :cheer:
5. yes or you can get screans for your wondows I have screans on every window in my house including the patio door they don't cost much at all and a worth it to keep your bird safe.
6. I do my share of playing referee myself especialy with Adaya she doesn't know her place yet so I have to really watch when she's out. Plus the fact that 3 of my birds are mature Tyco 6yrs old Jeepers 8 yrs.old and Fergie is 12 yrs old so the find Adaya & Raja annoying after awhile they will put up with her for awhile and most of the time they will just go inside their cages until she gets put back in hers. Raja and Adaya are good friends they are both young and love to play chase and catch me if you can. Fergie will sometime get mad a Adaya but I've never seen her bite yet she just puffs her feathers and bluffs until Adaya finds a different place to play. Jeepers just wants to be with me lately but will stay put on his playstand when asked to Adaya won't go near that playstand she thinks its some kind of monster probubly just as well. Tyco is the one I really have to watch around Adaya she likes her and they do play but Tyco can get annoyed fairly quick if Adaya's not doing what Tyco wants her to do she doesn't hurt Adaya but she nips at Adayas toes. And thats when I have to intervene and put Tyco in her cage for a time out.
7. Your parnter should not encourge the birds hormonal tendencys the bird needs to be put on his play stand when he start masterbating on your partner birds get all kinds of problems when these behaviours are encouraged. skritches on the head, neck and face are fine touching downhis backunder his wings or anywhere near the vent area is not good and can cause problems. If you want your bird to love you then spend time teaching himsome new tricks or something that is enjoyable for you both do it when there is just you and the bird around or take the bird into another room where you can work with him without distraction.he will soon learn that you are a wonderful person to hang ot with and will look forward to your time together be consistant and try to spend the time with him at the same time everyday so he learns to expect it at that time. parrots love rotine and if its part of his rotine to come and spend time with you he will learn to look forward to it at that time everyday.
8. I just love your photo's I always sit on my deck at night as I live in a very rual area so you can see zillions of stars its so dark I love to wat the falling stars and meter showers its so differnt out in the wilderness compared to in the city. I wish I could see them through a telescope that would be soooo Awesome
9. Jeeper has decided that he loves being with me and wants to hang out on my shoulder allot Fergie has decided that she doesn't like him always being on my shoulder and has taken to screaming at him saying get off go away. Jeeper seems to take it all in stride and is being as sweet as can be he's so gentle and preens my face and hair and love haveing his pin feathers pinched as there are so many of them on his neck and head he will sit for hours and let me preen his pins for him what an adorable baby he has become. its totally amazing the transformation.
10. Thats so scary I would have been in a state of total panic and probubly crying to much to drive your a grey't parront to stay in control and do what you had to do quickly. good for you and Karma also

Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2009/06/30 21:49

I 'm going to run out of space soon I've filled up the ceiling almost and allot of the floor space prettysoon I'm going to have to add another addition onto my house just to accomadate my birds toys lol

Weening

Its not up to you to stop feeding her its up to her she will let you know when she's ready she will refuse her feeding and thats when to stop it she will start by only taking a little then refuseing the whole thing so you can cut the formula down as she refuses in 1/2 then the entire feeding its very importent to let her stop its not your desision and if you cut her to soon you will have problems force weining is a total no-no with African Greys or any bird for that matter.

Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2009/06/30 21:17
13. I still have that problem with Adaya and she's been doing it since she learned to fly. I just keep getting her down she will step up every time I ask so I don't have a problem getting her off my head. its been over a month now since she learned to fly and I think shefinally getting the Idea she actually landed on my shoulder the other day instead of my head my problem is that she likes to land on my headand then roll over and hang upside down by my hair do you have any Idea what its like to have a african grey dangling in front of your face. I guess I'm going to either get a hair cut or wear a hat. I tried a ponytail but thats worse it gives her my hair to hang on to the little bogger.
14. I don't know about that them being from different parts of Africa because in the pet trade they are all mixed up with the size of Tyco she sould be lighter from camaroon but she has the size but is very dark in color which probubly one of her ansester was a coastal and one was an inland the same goes for Adaya as she is smaller and lighter. our pets are just African Greys they are all mixed up so you cannot go by their color to tell where they came from.
15. I had 4 kids of my own and 3 foster kids 6 of which where girls all around the same age. let me tell you I know what have a messy house is like. my birds are Clean compared to 6 teenage girls:laugh:
16. We certinally have some sick people with same strange religous practices. All these people that hurt animals for their own purposes what ever they are should have the same thing done to them as they do to the animals and then maybe the carnage would stop.
17. I don't think I have it in me to shoot someone. I could never live with myself. I have 3 dogs and one of them is pretty big I certinally wouldn't want him mad at me. He weights in at 75 lbs I think he scare off any uninvited guests. I don't like guns.
18. your bird has just learned to fly he still needs to learn to land properly he is not fully fledged yet its very bad to clip a birds wings before it is fully fledged take your bird up to the glass door everytime you take him out and touch the glass then get your bird to do the same with his beak he will soon learn there is a barrier there and won't try to fly through it anymore. I have a sun room with lots of windows and a baby grey nd she flys all over that room and never into a window she knows exactly how close she can get and turns just before hitting the glass its called training your bird instead of taking away the very thing that makes them a bird.
19. They sound so sweet I just love hawkheads but there hard to find in British Columbia Canada the closest breeder is on the other side of the Country at least the only one I know of and they don't like to ship their birds. Probubly just as well or I'm sure I would have another bird to worry over

21. Owning a Large bird is not for everyone but if you have the time and lots of love then the joy they bring will definitely out weigh the bad that they do. You definitely can't be materialistic and own a parrot because all those beautiful things that you own probably won't be for long.
22. That one of the reasons I live in the middle of nowhere 25 miles from the nearest small town and 65 miles from the city of Vancouver. I know crime happens everywhere but it happens a whole lot less where I live heck I don't even lock my doors. everyone knows everyone and we are good neighbours we watch out for each other when there's no one home. I wouldn't go back to the city for all the money in the world my peice of mind is worth allot to me.
23. Ah that so cute I love the little song she sings in between the that's amazing shes quite amazing
24. They are both Cags thank-you thats good least I know I'll always be able to tell them apart Tyco is almost charcoal grey and Adaya is a dark silver grey so as long as they stay that way its no problem. Tyco is also weighs 140 grs more thanks for aswering that for me Dave
25. This is true when I first got Tyco she was on a total seed diet now she loves her pellets and eats more of those than anything else. Jeepers my macaw is a seed junkie also I have been trying to get him to eat other food since I got him but heis so stubborn that takeing his food away doen't work for him he just won't eat if there s nothing he likes so far I've gotten him to eat eggs, pasta, the odd grape and a little bite of apple once in a while he just won't eat he loves eggs so I tried putting things in his eggs but he won't touch them if theres any thing in them. He's a hard one and I won't just totally starve him until he eats. He will go days without eating. Oh well I'lljust keep trying.

Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2009/06/30 02:14
