Thanks every one for the nice comments Yes he does look so gorgeous the pictures of him don't do him justice at all he is the most beautiful vivid colours I have ever seen he shines like he has the sun on him all the time even when it dark. everytime I look at him he almost takes my breath away. I guess I must be doing something right but I certainly don't know what it is he won't eat his vegetable he will try everything as long as I eat it first and he will only take the tiniest bite. if its not to bad tasting he may have 2 tiny bites but I continue to fill up his dish with fresh fruits and veggie, bean mash. sweet potatoes you name it and it sits there and I throw it away everyday his diet consists of a high quality seed mix that has pellets in it,Almond, walnuts, pecans, human grade peanuts, dried cranberries. banana chips, dried pineapple, papaya, mango and coconut all human grade. he also get red palm oil on his eggs 2times a week , grapes apples mac and cheese and sometimes on a good day if I hang a broccoli spear in his cage like a toy he will fight with it and mabie eat a little. And that about all he will eat but I keep trying I think he's been eating his snap peas lately so that's good.

I can't wait to see some pics of your flock I just love them all. So when is Your Grey expected to come home. I have a 6yr old Grey that I rescued a couple years ago. and I just finished handfeeding and weaning my baby Grey her hatch date was Feb. 7 2009 so she's about 4 1/2 months old now and about as sweet as they come. I have other birds as well. Welcome to the family I hope to here lots from you about your fids.

Well I must say I also want to give you Karma for taking on a older abused bird. I have taken Ina few myself. First thing you have to do is to Le him know you really want to be his friend. To do this try looking at him with only one eye keep you hands behind your back never approach the cage straight on come in from an angle or zig zag all these thin will show him that you are a friend and your not going to hurt him. After he stops trying to attack you or his cage try to clench your fist and put it on the bars of his cage make the skin on the back of your hand as tight as possible and let him try to bite you he won't be able to get a grip but it will show him that biting isn't going to work always watch his head while doing this and move you fist so it the only spot he can get too because he will try to find a softer place to bite. My African Grey took 7 months before she would allow me to touch her feathers in anyway it takes time and patient and i do mean lots and lots o patients and love. Open the cage and leave it open he will come out on his own this will take some time if hes been locked up for to long. I rescued a Severe Macaw not to long ago that was locked away for 5or 6 years at least. Its taken awhile but he's finally starting to enjoy life again. I took his cage completely away from him a couple days ago and bought him a playstand that is like a cage but hasn't got any bars. So far we are making progress. I don't recommend doing this to a bird until you know his personality and he has at least started coming out on his own and sitting on top of his cage without fear. What you could try though is putting a rope perch or something similar on the inside of the door so that when he sits on that perch and you open the door he's actually out but only part way and still feels secure to have his cage around him. that's what I did and it wasn't to long that that became his favorite place to sit and be with me. it helps him to get used to being in close but not to close until he's ready you really have to take thing slow and at his pace not your and you will soon have a wonderful companion. just don't give up don't take bites seriously and give him all the love you can try to get him into a routine as much as possible this will also help. same thing everyday with only minor changes like moving a little closer or teaching him something with blocks like colors while your sitting with him the more you involve him in your life the faster he will come around make him feel he's apart of a flock even if its a human flock good luck.

Ahhh that's the sweetest thing I've ever heard. Maybe Jeepers will learn to say something like that because when he kisses me and he does it without trying to bite I always say what a nice kiss your such a good boy. He is getting really good now.

Since I took Jeepers cage away 2 days ago he has gotten better I must say (I think) I put his cage back to where it was before I moved him in with the rest of the flock. Last night he decided to get down off his play stand and wander a bit. So I let him for about 1/2 an hour but it was getting to be bedtime so I stepped him up without any problems he jumped right on and went straight for my shoulder. Instead of him sleeping on his playstand I moved him to the top of his cage where I thought he would get a better nights sleep because its quiet there. He stepped down onto his cage and I went to bed. This morning when I got up I went to see him and move him back to his playstand and again he stepped up right away and up to my shoulder he went. I let him hang out there while I made myself a cuppa and he was happily preening my hair and rubbing his face on me. But then when I went to get him off my shoulder he refused to step down. I actually had to take my sweater off in order for him to get off me and onto his stand. So now I have a new problem he's doing better without his cage but the first place he heads is to my shoulder when he steps up and if he won't come down I'm can't allow him to go up there but I don't know how to stop him. he's a pretty big bird and I really don't want to get bit so now I don't know what to do with him any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

I like the new rankings in another 3000 posts I may even know enough to earn the title of Master you never now. I like being a bird of prey Where I live there are hundreds of hawks and Bald Eagle and they are so awesome to see in flight or to watch them fish in the lakes around my home. Nothing in this world is more beautiful.

I live in Canada and I support a local bird rescue. This rescue won't even take a Cockatoo because all of their birds are kept in foster homes. They just can't find enough foster parents for the amount of Too's that they would have if they started to except them. They do try to help owners find suitable home for them but won't actually take them. Please be careful what your getting your self into I took one in for a short while to find a sitable home after his mom died and I'm telling you that bird attacked my daughter every chance he got. he would have killed every other bird in the house if given half a chance. please be very carful and think hard about this. The very same bird was the sweetest most loving wonderful baby with me and other woman as well but thats it he would attack men or dogs cats birds children.

I have the Adventure pack and I also have a nice little bit bigger one that I like allot so far I can't get Tyco into the Adventure Pack but she doesn't mind the other one I have its 14"x 18" x18" tall so its still easy to carry around bur it gives her mor space its big enough fora sleep cage if I ever need it to be for a noghtor two. I actually prefer it the adventure pack I find small for my larger birds they seem to get clostraphobic in it and are always trying to get out.

I steam clean Tycos and Fergies cages all the time I just use water in the steamer it works great to loosen the poop and the steam sanitizes just give in a good blast of steam for a couple of seconds and wipe in off its really quick and easy.

I smoke and also hate it I do smoke in one spot in my house and it right beside the patio doors which I open when i have a smoke my birds are in the farthest room away from there and I always shut their door and turnthe fan on to blow any smoke out the patio doors I know its not healthy for me or my fids and I do plan to quit again soon. Ive quit 3 times already for a couple years at a time mabie the next time it will be permanent. My hands are in water constantly thoughout the day and so famy birds have shown no ill affects from any traces of nicotine that may be on my hands.

When Adaya want love and cuddles she rolls herself over in the palm of me hand and I lay her on her back on my tummy and she will stay like that for hours and let me rub her face beak and head and if I stop she will beak my fingers lightly to remind me that she still wants more loveing.
-
Adaya's hatchdate is February 7 2009 so she just turned 4 months old so I would say thats really early to start talking but she has 4 other birds around here that talk their little heads off so she has a ton of insentive to learn. They learn so much faster when they other birds to learn from. I really can't take the credit for her starting to talk because when she talks she sound just like her birdy buddy My Indian ring neck.

Pretty baby boy you have their. Tyco likes her showers like that also only she like me to put a coule inches of water in the tub so she can slash around a bit Nice pics thanks for sharing with us

Its only 2weeks he will be fine yo may have him stuck to your face like glue for a few days after you get home but other than that I do think this will be good for him he will get to know your parents and then mabie next year he will be able to come out for them because of this 2 weeks. So go have a good time and don't worry you can always call home and your parents can put the phone up to him so you can talk to him at least that way he'll know that your comeing home for him.

Yeah I know all about nutri berrys Tyco will do just about anything for them. Hmm I wonder if I could get her to clean her own cage for a nutri berry LOL Love your story so cute.

He's turning into such a sweetheart I just love him so much. He love playtime and scritches and kisses. he has a great vocabulary and comes out with the funnyest things sometimes. What a wonderful sence of humor he has he makes me laugh all the time. You couldn't ask for a better companion he has totaly stopped biting. The only issue we are facing now is the fact that he won't leave his cage. I want him to step up and fly and come and join me when he wants to but he's been locked up for way way to long and is terrified to go anywhere away from his cage. So thats why I took his cage away and got him a playstand that is like a cage but without bars I'm hopeing that it might help. we will see how it goes.

Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2009/06/22 16:57

I know just how you feel I just went through 4 months of raging hormones With Fergie I've had her for 8 years and by far this was the worst year. Thank goodness she is not a bitter but the nesting and clucking was enough she chewed a 14 inch hole in my kitchen wall above my cupboards and my kitchen cabnets are going to have to be replaces as she has chewed bits all around the top of them. And quick I couldn't get up there fast enough before she chewed a chunk out of them. I did end up trimming her wings and it is so heart breaking but it sure slowed down her hormones right quick. shes finally back to her oldself again thank goodness mabie next year won't be so bad or as long.

I went and bought this playstand today and I must admit that if it hadn't of been such an awsome deal I woulld have totally lost it and Probubly have land in jail. When I went to pick it up it was in their garage when they opened the garage door I looked and the first thing I saw sitting in the fartherst corner was and African Grey Congo in a cage that was a canary or finch flight cage it was about 18"deep 28" wide and about 22 inch tall I went over to the cage to see her and ask her name the people said her nname was Gabby I was trying very hard to keep my cool so I said its sad she has to be out here in the garage she must get very lonley. The lady said well We are just waiting for the new owners to come and get her the still owe a bit of money for her. this poor bird was quite obviously barbering her feathers she was looking very shabby and very sad. If she wasn't going soon to a new home I very well could have ended up with another bird today. I packed up the playstand and left. I didn't ask how old Gabby was because I'm sure if they told me and she was a few years old I would have gone to jail for sure so I didn't ask I really didn't want to know how long that poor bird has been living in a garage in a cage that was way to small I probubly woul d have been charged with bird napping at the very least mabie even assult. I just want to cry how can people treat such beautiful inteligent birds like that. I'm so upset I don't even know what to do. sorry for venting. heres some pics of my baby on his new stand.

Have bought a 7 year old African Grey... Need help
Tycos_mom replied to DollyParrot's topic in The GREY Lounge
You may need to buy some earplugs in the meantime. Judy is right the only thing you can do is totally ignore it even bad attention is ateention and she will continue it if you say anything at all while she is doing it don't even look her way and she will soon stop and go on to something else. -
Thanks for this post I do the same thing when I'm playing with Adaya and I have to go. I'd really hate her first phrase to be I gotta go pee.
