1. This may seem like a silly question but I still would like an answer. Adaya is quite a bit lighter in colour than Tyco who is very dark Grey. Will Adaya get darker as she gets older or will she remain the same light grey that she is now? do their feathers get darker after each molt?
2. I've never heard a scream like that from my birds yet and I certainly hope I never do. Its sound absolutely heart stopping. Maybe I'll get lucky and it will never happen my birds live a fairly sheltered life except for maybe Adaya because she comes everywhere with me when I'm not working but I hope I never run into anything that frightens her that badly.

Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2009/06/30 00:11
3. That's so sweet he's obviously very loved Isn't wonderful to have such a great companion as an African Grey when they love and trust you you'll never have a better friend.
4. I find when these little birds are like this its way scarier because they're small and really quick with the bigger birds you get a bit of warning before they actually bite but the little ones are all over the place in seconds you just get your hand up to push them away and they are all ready biting somewhere else they could do allot of damage really quick. I covered every mirror in my house now because thats what seems to trigger Raja is when he sees himself in the mirror. I can pet him and hold him and he's ok again but I don't dare let him see himself or I'm a goner silly bird can't tell the difference between a real bird and a reflection.
5. Don't worry Erica it won't last for ever does your husband take him out when your not around or is he totally cage bound. I still let Raja out for his usual playtime with Adaya they love to play chase all over the house and its such good exercise and very fun to watch I just make sure I cover all the mirrors and as long as he doesn't see himself he's pretty good about not attacking me. I know how hard it is not to be able to trust them but your going to have to let him out sooner or later. I just remind Raja when he lands on me to not bite. I say in a very stern voice with a stern look on my face no bite and he's pretty much back to letting me pet a scritch him again I found that if I was feeling afraid of him he would sense it and bite more but as long as I acted normally so did he. Try not to show your fear and hopefully it won't be long before he's the same old love bug he used to be.
6. Wow you remind me of myself I'm surprised I'm not totally grey myself I constantly worry about my birds checking to make sure their poop is normal and they are playing, talking, eating,I even ask them if they are happy and feeling good. I guess it comes from loving them so much I wouldn't want anything to happen to them but I'm sure I didn't worry nearly as much about my human children as I do about my birds.
7. Its really easy on photobucket just open a free account I want to see too.
8. My birds have an orbit right now and they have sosososo much fun with it. its one of their very favorite toys so if you can't afford the Atom right away I really recommend getting the orbit your bird will love it.
9. Your baby is just adorable I just weaned my baby not long ago I got my baby when she was 5 weeks old and hand fed and weaned her myself. Talk about a little sweetheart. Its so good you get to spend lots of time with your baby that way when s/he does come home s/he will know you and won't have to much of an adjustment period. Your gonna just be on cloud nine having a special little companion. I just love my companions I would not know what to do with out them.
10. 1. is your baby a Congo or Timneh average weight depends on you birds build a Condo can weigh anywhere from 375gr to 650gr some have small bone structure some have large bone structure it just depend on the size of the bird you have. 1 of my birds weighs 430 grs the other weighs 580 grams you can see the difference in the size in my signature picture. 2.They usually start to perch around 8 weeks old 3. they usually start to fly around 10or11 weeks old 4.The cage is fine upstairs as long as you have a play area for him in the main place where everyone spends the most time. you can have a portable stand to take with you to other rooms as well. he should have a fairly large place to hang out and play with lots of things to play with in the main area. family room or living room where ever the family hangs out the most.
11. Your such a wonderful Parront I totally agree with your vet If anyone can see this baby through all the changes they go through you can.
12. These are some pictures Of my IRN he turned a Year old on the 18th of March according to the reading I've done Ring necks aren't sexualy mature until they are 2 years old. around the same time they get there rings. Well Rajas rings are starting to come in but aren't not even close to what they will be. He's very nasty I must say and thats not normal for him usually he's the biggest little cuddler you could ask for. He will lay belly up in the palm of my hand and if I give him scritches he says yea tickle tickle I love you but the other day he bit my face hard and if I did push him away I'm sure he would have drawn blood he saw himself in the mirror and I guess was trying to get me away from his new friend. I've covered that mirror for now I don't want to get bit like that again. anyway here's some pics of my beautiful boy.
13. I would if its cracked because it will start to smell and the bacteria could be harmful to your bird.

15. Well its all your fault I never would have posted a picture of myself on that thread called what do you look like if it wasn't for you so now there's 2 of them on there one of me with my Granddaughter and another of me with Adaya I hope your happy.
16. Welcome Jennifer since nobody else mentioned this I will. When the pest control people come you will have to get your bird compleatley out of the apartment any fumes at all could be fatal. Their respitory systems are way different than ours and way more sensitive that why they uses birds in mines to detect gas because a bird will die very quickly to any gases that might be there. Get yourself a nice travel cage that way you can get the bird out of the apartment when nessesary and you can also use it as a sleep cage fore your bird when your Dad comes to stay.
17. The thing about potty training is you have to be consistant everytime you see her doing the potty dance you have to take her to where you want her to go and say go poop or go potty and then as soon as she goes say yea good girl get excited about it and give her lots of praise and scritches she will soon catch on and learn to go there just a peice of newspaper or paper towel is best for potty training if you have a small table top pearch that would be best with the paper under it. good luck annd welcome to our little family.
18. I had a love bird that did the same thing she protected it but never kept it warm If you want to see if the eggs a fertile your going to have to give her nesting materals and a place to build her nest like a nest box other wise just wait til she grows bored of the egg and then remove it many love bird have at least 3to5 eggs in one clutch
19. Talon it comes with the territory If you want to keep birds as pets you have to decide weather of not your willing toput up with a little destrution bird love to chew its part of their nature and it doesn't matter how much wood you give them that they are allowed to have there is always something else that they prefer The Natural wood frames around my windows is one thing the love to chew they love to sit by the windows and watch the other birds and people walk by and the frames are just right there for the chewing. my cupboard got chewed because Fergie wanted to build her nest atop my cupboards and that wood was handy to build it with she's 12 yerars old and has her times when nature tells her to build and last time it was at the cost of my cupbards and a wall behind the cupboards that she chewed a huge hole in. I could have clipped her but I just couldn't bring myself to that I did end up giving her a minor trim she can still fly no problem just can't get as much height as she used to. If I didn't I wouldn't have a kitchen left.
20. why don't you try to ask this same Question on an Australian Forum here's a link to one they have a few members with African Greys. http://aussiebirds.proboards.com/index.cgi?
21. Is it not possible fot you to get a small place on Your own so that you can have your birds and you won't have to live by anyones rules but your own. If thats not an option then I would ask your brother if he wants the bird forever and the responsability that goes with it. I know its a hard thing todo but I don't see any alturnative Dave is right you can't shuffle the birds back and forth between homes its not fair to them Tyco had 3 homes before my home and she was only 4 yrs old when I got her its no wonder it took her so long to trust me she was waiting to see where she was going to next. I've had her for 2 years now and she will never have to be rehomed again until my passing and then my daughter will have her for the remainder of her life. You never know whats going to happen between now and then this may be her final home who knows. In some ways I hope that it is.
22. Shortly after I got my Laptop Tyco decided to take her morning dump on the keyboard. I tryed hard to clean it up as Quickly as possible but I guess it had gotten under the keys and when all was said and done 1/2 my key board no longer worked I was very embarassed to have to take it in and get it fixed with birdy poop between the keys but I did and the covered it under my warrenty with a little note on how to keep my computer clean LOL now as for my house if and when I get around to fixing everything they have chewed its going to cost a whole lot I have to replace my kitchen cupboards all the natural trim around 4 windows a couple pieces of crown molding shouldn't cost more than 10 to 15 thousand dollars.
23. I check everyday for updates I'm so sorry there is no news yet. I'll keep praying for polly's safe return.
