Wow thats so great I'm glad things are improving I took 7 or 8 Months before Tyco allowed me to give her scritches but I never gave up trying and now after 2 years we have a great relationship she's not a cuddly bird by any means but she loves her scritches and kisses before bed and she doesn't bite me and thats as good as it gets with her and I'm happy with that as long as she steps up when I ask her to we get along great and I'm sure you and your birds relationship will start improving by leaps and bounds now that you have earned her trust.

Oh my thank goodness she's home I must have looked at this post 10 times waiting for news I so very happy and I'm sure Rita is pretty happy to be back safe and sound in her home as well. I can't wait to here her story. I'm just so happy

You could do that and it would help to calm him down I had to give my Amazon a minor clip when she was very hormonal and I must say it did wonders to calm her down she didn't talk to my for 3 day because she was so mad but she got over it and loves me again if you do decide to clip mabie just the first 3or 4 flight feathers and see how he does you can always cut more but you can't put back if you cut to much.

Oh caitlan I'm so sorry to here this. I think that Adaya would be doing the same thing right now with my daughter but she is afraid of the bigger birds she's only fourteen and she likes the smaller birds like my GCC and my IRN but every time Adaya see her she flies to her and Adaya's first words are get her off of me. So Adaya doesn't have a choice to switch loyalty's I can only imagine how much it hurts to be shunned by the bird you love so much. Hopefully with consistency and love you can still have a meaningful relationship with Echo even if you turn out to be 2nd best.

How long has it been since Riley has seen his first owner and how did you ever find him. Greys don't forget usually so I'm sure he will remember as long as he was with him for quite a while how old is Riley and how many homes has he been in? Sorry for all the question I also think this is a very nice thing your doing for Riley and his first owner. I hope this time its going to be forever.

If you think it will put your mind at ease if you microchip then I say go for it I am personalyholding out for the micro chip that has a GPS my vet figuers its only about 5 years away at least that way I can track my bird should they ever get lost. and as for DNA you can usually get an Idea of what they are by there actions I got Adaya done as a baby but if I got her as an older bird I wouldn't bother because you can usually tell what sex they are when the hormones kick in.

You better get some locks before I got Tyco her new cage she escaped one day when my family andI went out for the day when I came home I thought some one had broken in at first all my birds where flying all over the house and all their food dishes and everything that was on my counters was thrown across the kitchen there was seeds and pellets and butter and salt and peppershakers the fruit bowl was empty and there were beak marks on everything I had only had Tyco for about a week at the time and she was sitting on the counter looking pleased as punch I didn't realize she could escape her cage the little brat took me 3 hours to clean everything off the wall floor ceiling the birds cages I almost decided I didn't like Grey's I put pad locks on her cage after that and within a month I bought her the cage she has now the one I got her in was about the size of a cockateil cage so she definatly needed a new cage. What a day that was I was so tierd after walking around the fair all day and to come home to that was not fun.

Dave I just love That video made me laugh I agree with you those ittybitty chirps are the sounds every Grey make Adaya makes the very same sound and if I ignore her and don't take her out of her cage at that point she will cicken scratch in her food dishes until the are totally empty that bird wastes so much food it crazy I was just thinking about this post and decided to add this. I was thinking that this noise he's making may be a contact call because Adaya makes the same noise when she's trying to get my attention. I taught her how to cluck you know that noise you can make with you tongue on the roof of your mouth so now every time she does her peep peep I go cluck cluck and so does she and its been about 2 weeks now and she does more clucks than she doews peeps why don't you try teach him something that won't drive you crazy like a whistle of some sort.

Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2009/07/23 05:38

Adaya hangs out on my shoulder all the time. Tyco doesn't even try I don't let her because I can't trust her not to bite. all of my other birds are permited on my shoulder because they are very well behaved and when I ask them to step up they will. I think its totally up to each person weather or not you allow them on your shoulder it also depends on the type of personality that your bird has for some birds its just not a good Idea to have them on your shoulder I think with most birds its ok.

Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2009/07/23 03:28

24"d x32"wx24" is a minimum size cage for a Grey unless your Grey uses the cage you have strickly for a sleep cage and is out most of the time the cage you have is to small take a look a the cage room on this forum to get some idea's of the size you should have. Your Grey is a baby and you can't be afraid of her of she will sense this fear and be afraid herself if she does bite ignore it push into the bite and theres a very good chance she won't do ot again if your afraid of getting bit then you shouldn't have a Grey or any bird for that matter all birds bite you have to teach the bird that its not exceptable behavour. close your fist up as tight as you cah and offer her the back of your hand up to her beak she won't be able to get a good bite and it may help to break the ice between you and her. I had todo this allot with my Macaw he was cage bound for 5 years and would lunge and bite every chance he could but I won him over and now he's as sweet as can be don't be afraid just try.

I started Adaya on cockatiel size zupreem fruity pellets at about 6 to 7 weeks and also chopped up broccoli she loved both and actually eat the broccoli she never liked soft foods she prefered things that she could crunch up

oh Caroline that is just the best news I know how tough it can be with the birds not getting along I'm having to deal with some of the same issues with Adaya and my Amazon. I hate having to juggle out of cage time between the 2 of them but that's the way it is for now. I think its great that you and your husband have worked out a solution that is such good news.
-
Oh that is so sad I very sorry for your loss maybe she got eggbound its so hard to tell sometimes.

I don't have a hahn's Macaw but I do have a Severe Macaw and he is the sweetest. funniest bird I have totally fallen head over heals in love with him. I rescued him about 8 months ago. and at first I thought I was never going to get him to settle down and not be scared of everything. Now he is just gone from a lunging biting cage bound bird. and changed into the sweetest most cuddly bird I have. he's the best if the hahn's is anything like the Severe your going to have a wonderful companion

Whats your Greys name? (or suggestions!?!?)
Tycos_mom replied to nluvwithmygrey's topic in The GREY Lounge
I have 2 Greys Tyco was a rescue and I didn't change her name because she knew it so well Adaya is my baby and I just liked the name plus all my girl kids names begin with A and since I raised Adaya since she was 5 weeks old I figured I would give her an A name as well. I also have 3 dogs one I rescued when he was a pup from the pound he's 14yrs old now. I went to look for a small dog for my little girl and while I was there I saw this beautiful collie puppy they told me that if no one adopted him by that friday he would be put to sleep. this was on Monday so on thursday night I phoned to see if anyone had adopted him and they said no so I called him Destiny because thats what I thought it was. Then there's Gloria her parents names where Archie and Veronica, and I thought since she's Archies pup I called her Gloria Archie Bunkers daughters name is Gloria. Then there's my pappion he weighs 4 lb and when he was a baby he was too cute so his name is TC short for Too Cute.

Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2009/07/21 08:18 -

How about if its a girl you could call her nevaeh I think its a beautiful name and its heaven spelt backwards. I would have named my baby Grey that name except I didn't think of it until after I named her.
