A lot of people think because they are big bodied birds that a few flight feathers clipped will prevent them from flying but we have some here that have clipped greys that are very good at flying. Allowing the flight feathers to grow out will enable him to become an expert flier and learn how to land safely and boost his confidence.

    Wow a 40 year old grey and he is coming to stay for a few weeks, you are going to have such fun and hopefully Charlie will pick up some good habits and not bad words but you take what you get. I would love to see some pics of Blue
  5. But of course, anything on our plates is theirs too and a good way to get them to try something good for them, eat it in front of them and they instantly want it. Josey has had a lot of different meats, some of it wild game that my hubby brings in.

  7. Hello Elaine and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Tigerlily. She sounds like she has a mind of her own but then they own us and not vice versa but keep at it. If its convenient you could take her out in a travel cage to places where she sees more people, but my grey is basically a one person bird too. Please read tru the many threads for lots of useful information and do ask any and all questions and we will help you in any way we can. If you have any other pictures of Tigerlily you would like to share with us we would love to see them.

  9. Greg she is still adjusting to her new home so give her time to settle in and feel comfortable and then more of her personality will emerge. She is quiet because she is taking this all in and soon she will be more vocal but talking is probably some time away yet. Patience is what we preach here, give her plenty of time and soon you may be asking how to shut her up:laugh:
  10. Josey has a little meat from time to time and she gnaws on a chicken leg or thigh bone when I have them which is not often. I can relate to chickens eating their own eggs, I was raised on a farm and we had chickens and if we dropped an egg while in the henhouse the chickens would come running and eat it up pronto:sick: :ohmy: :blink: :laugh:
  11. Congrats on having a young talker, my Josey didn't talk until she was one year old.
  12. Nesha don't use the soap on CJ, all you need is water for them to bathe with, the soap will dry his skin out further and may be contributing to his itchiness. Some greys just do not like water but it is necessary for them to get fully soaked at least twice a week to rid the body of the dust and to make their skin feel softer, it also helps to soften the new feathers as they come in. My Josey does not like baths but she will tolerate a shower spray, I take her into the shower stall and use a hand held nozzle on her, I use cool water as most prefer cool over warm water. She grumbles a little but otherwise she endures it, she doesn't try to attack it. We have several threads that deal with bathing greys, do a search to find them and read thru for some other ideas.

  14. This is a wonderful forum isn't it, I also came from another grey forum and it has no where near the volume of members and constant responses that we get here. There are always at least 6 or more people on it at all times with lots more at times and responses are almost immediate to a lot of the posts, a very active forum. I agree that this forum at first glance was a little hard to navigate but you quickly learn the ins and outs and now I feel like I am home when I am logged on. Glad to hear you are enjoying it so much and I learn something new every day from this site.

  19. No one is attacking you Bryan, we are only concerned for the health of your baby and I will say no more about it but to agree with you, no wood shavings in the cage. September 9th will be here before you know it and then you can bring him home and get him cleaned up ater he gets a clean bill of health.

Sounds like you have found the love of your life and he is a lucky grey to have you. He has plenty of time yet to talk and he probably will, only a few don't but I'm sure you will love him regardless if he doesn't say a word. Ask questions and we will help you in any way we can. I assume that is CJ in your avatar, if you have any other pics of him you would like to share with us we would love to see them.

  23. Hello cflanny and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and your pursuit of owning another grey. I think taking in this rescue is a great idea but you need to wait until you actually meet this bird to see how things go but I am sure with your experience you would do nicely with it. I also think you are at a good place right now to take on the responsibility of a grey, I work full time and manage to find time for Josey and my sun conure, where there is a will there is a way. Please read thru the many threads for lots of useful information and do ask any and all questions and we will help you in any way we can.

  25. Hello Tilie and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Tillie. So sorry to hear your grey has been sick already but things happen and you are giving meds to make her better and she is being a good sport about taking them. You just ask away on questions you may have as we welcome any and all of them. Take a little time and read thru the many threads for lots of useful information while you are here. I would love to see some pictures of Tillie if you have some that you would share with us.
