  1. We need to know how old your grey is but keep offering him these foods as he will start nibbling at them shortly.
  2. You will love the book "For the Love of Greys" that was recommended reading for me by the woman who handfed and weaned my Josey and I find it a great source of good information on all aspects of grey ownership.
  3. It is a cute little thing, can't say I have ever seen one before but thanks for sharing a pic of him with us Jim and happy feeding.
  4. Hello Vida and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Budster. How fascinating that your grey has a musical side to him, even making up his own notes as he goes along. I have heard of them repeating a song they heard but to put notes together on his own is unique. You might have a genius on your hands. Please read thru the many threads for lots of useful and helpful information and do not hesitate to ask any and all questions you may have and we will do our best to find you some answers and help you in any way we can. If you have any pictures of Budster you would like to share with us we would love to see him.
  5. Yes please post a picture of him when you can as I would love to see it. You're right to release him when he is ready, he is a wild animal and meant to be free and find his own meals. I have happened upon a dazed hummingbird before but it didn't take long for it to gain it's composure and fly away but not before I had the chance to admire it's beauty.
  6. Actually Zahra it is proably good that from time to time you are gone like this, it is good for them to know you will have days and times that you wont be around as usual so they get used to it. I'm sorry to hear of the ill relative, hope he recovers soon but these things happen and we have to do the best we can and go from there.
  7. Now those two things are just about the stinkiest things I can think of and I don't think I could stomach eating something that smelled even remotely like that:sick: I don't care if it tastes like ice cream, its not going past these lips and needless to say neither will it be offered to my birds:sick:
  8. Oh no Kitty, did you knock on wood when you said that, you must not have:S   Pat that is great news, you thought she was out to bite you and all she wanted was to play a game, you really are working wonders with this rescue.
  9. So Jim, do you plan on keeping it or just raising it until it gets big enough to fly away and live on it's own?
  10. Hello Whiteflower and welcome to the family, so glad you decided to join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and your new grey. What is his name? You certainly came to the right place for help in handling the handfeeding for Tracy, aka LovemyGreys, is an expert on grey babies and handfeeding. She has a wealth of knowledge on the subject and is willing to share what she knows with you and anyone else who needs it. For lots of other information please read thru the many threads on various topics and do not hesitate to ask any and all questions you may have and we will do our best to find you some answers and help you in any way we can. If you have any pictures of your grey you would like to share with us we would love to see it.
  11. I have plenty of fresh veggies to can and freeze but don't have the time since I work full time and then come home and start the second shift. I used to do a lot of canning and freezing when I was not working. My hubby gives away fresh veggies every day because we just can't eat all that come from the garden. Most veggies do require a parboil before freezing as Siobhan said.
  12. Thats so nice of you to take that birdie in and take care of it Jim and good luck finding some bugs to feed it, have you tried some convenience stores out in the country as some of them stock mealworms and such for fishing bait.
  13. This may not be of much help but sometimes I hide a mini box of raisins in an empty toilet paper roll and crimp the ends and she tears it up to get to the raisins.
  14. Josey does not dunk much stuff in her water bowl and certainly not her pellets, sometimes she has some paper she has torn up in her water but that is about it.
  15. Hello EinsteinsMOM and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Einstein. I think that is a common trait that we all share that our greys have enriched our lives so much that we wonder how we ever got along without them for so long. They are amazing creatures aren't they and so smart, why I imagine that is why yours has that name. Take some time and read thru the many threads for lots of useful information and do not hesitate to ask any and all questions you may have and we will do our best to find you some answers and help you in any way we can. If you have some pictures of Einstein you would like to share with us we would love to see him.
  16. Hello Christian and welcome to the family, so glad yiou could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and this new grey of yours. I assume you have some experience with handfeeding birds for this one is too young to be weaned. I hope you know what you are doing, I don't want to criticize you but I am just looking out for the bird's best interest. If you read some of the threads in the nursery room you will know it is something that has to be done properly. Please read thru the many threads for lots of useful information and do not hesitate to ask any and all questions you may have and we will do our best to find you some answers and help you in any way we can. If you have any pictures of your new grey you would like to share with us we would love to see it.
  17. Yeah you're right Toni, wait until Dan finds out for he owes me some karma big time, I knew she was a female and I am right again. {Communicate-0002011B}
  18. Well of course you would but good things come to those who wait, you'll see.
  19. Hello Julie and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Webster. I echo the other's sentiments, please don't give up on him yet, he has been thru a lot before he came to you and you are his family now and it would be devastating for him if you gave him up now. The others have given you some excellent advice, you are going to have to ignore the whistle and that means no reaction to it at all for any reaction he gets is attention and he will just do it all the more. When he has been quiet for a time then go to him and reward him and lavish much praise on him and soon he will learn that silence earns him sweet rewards. You will learn lots by reading thru the many threads for loads of information and do not hesitate to ask any and all questions you may have and we will do our best to find you some answers and help you in any way we can. If you have some pictures of Webster you would like to share with us we would love to see him.
  20. Like Tracy said you can't have both, she is either a pet or a breeder bird and her personality may change with maturity, but like the others this is my opinion.
  21. I had to add a bowl to Josey's cage, it came with 3 bowls so I added one and used it for her pellets.:side:
  22. EinsteinsMOM, why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us a little more about you and Einstein.
  23. Mary I leave a bowl with pellets in Josey's cage all day for her to snack on any time she wants and that is all that goes in that bowl. I put her veggies and fruits in another and another bowl with a few seeds, legumes and nuts.
  24. """I just got him because I loved him so much.""" That about sums it up for all of us and you do have a smart bird to talk so soon. The "wolf whistle" was the first thing that Josey learned also.
  25. You will find out a lot of information when you read thru the threads here, we have just about covered every subject there is and you will find out some of the answers to your questions in them, if not just ask and you shall receive.
