Erika, I would allow more time for him to be more comfortable and then he may talk more but some greys do not like an audience when they talk, hence some are called closet talkers. A lot of us have greys that will talk around their flock members but when strangers come in they shut up, it just depends on the individual bird. Josey will talk around us and even to us but she is hesitant to talk around strangers, she can be quiet as a church mouse. Don't stress out over his lack of talking or he will pick up on that, just be patient and continue to talk to him and he might surprise you one day and chat with ya.
-
Well don't give up Jen as he might talk one day, maybe he is a slow starter. B)
-
Yes it is and that is exactly what I hope they both get, a clean bill for a big bill:S
-
Don't use yucca or birch for I see them on a list I have for toxic plants and I cannot find anything for mulberries.
-
The one in the second link is one like Joseys but it does not have the divider in it, its all one open cage and I like the playtop on the lower side. But either cage is very suitable for a grey.
-
I don't see why you cannot offer them every day if you like and he enjoys them so much, maybe a different one every day as they are very nutritious. You could scatter them over other chopped fresh veggies.
-
Yep, two birds with one stone, maybe the vet will cut you a deal for two at a time. Let us know what happens and how it goes with both.
-
Oh I wish I could go but unfortunatley I live on the other side of the country but I hope someone does go to take some pics and share them with the rest of us. Thanks Spooky for keeping us informed about Gulliver.

Oh yeah, if you give a good reaction whenever he says a new word of course he will want to repeat it to get that warm reception out of you, they love to please. They can and do learn new words all the time.

Josey used to try to get up on my head several times when I first brought her home and now she knows she does not go any higher than my shoulder. They do like getting to the highest point and unfortunately that is the top of our head.
-
Well it kind of sounds like guarded encouragement if there is such a thing. You said she seems better but there are some strange things happening, I would imagine it is the meds, you might want to check with the vet to be sure. I am a little more optimistic but she is certainly not out of the woods yet. I will keep Fluffy in my thoughts and prayers for a complete recovery with no ill effects and you hang in there too and keep us informed ok;)

Yes I do and I never thought of it as bragging as I am not, just stating a fact since so many members have a problem with their greys inflicting nasty bites, she just hasn't delivered one yet. No really I just want to join Dan's Bite Me Club so bad it is killing me:woohoo:

tarnold wrote: Well monkey see, monkey do, at least thats what they say. Josey likes to hang on to the side of her cage and flap her wings, sometimes it looks like she is trying to keep from falling but she knows what she is doing, just a good little bit of exercise.

Hello Drew and welcome to the family, so glad you did find us and we look forward to hearing more about you and this new grey. Congrats on catching the grey fever and Kitty is right on, we are owned by our greys and not vice versa. You are certainly doing the right thing in researching and reading all you can before you finally bring home that lovely creature. Have you ever had any parrots before? Please read thru the many threads for lots of useful information and do not hesitate to ask any and all questions you may have and we will do our best to find you some answers and help you in any way we can. When you get a chance to get some pics of this greys if you would share a few with us as we would love to see it.

I have had Josey for close to 2 years now, I got her in September of 2006 and she is 26 months old and I can say she has never bitten me, not a drop of blood have I shed because of her. She has pushed me away from time to time and that is a nudge with her beak and she has beaked me occasionally but she has never broken the skin much ss made me bleed. Of course I avoid situations where she may have reason to bite but she just does not bear down and I will give one example. I can play with Josey on my shoulder by putting my hand under my shirt and she will go after it like it is something to attack and bite down hard but the moment I bring my hand out from under the shirt she lightens up when she brushes against my bare skin. I know the day will come when she will deliver a nasty bite and I don't look forward to it but for now she has been very easy on me. She kind of has a "soft mouth" as my hubby would put it, thats what you call a trait in a good retriever dog, that means the dog doesn't put much pressure on the prey it picks up, it just uses what is necessary to hold the bird and not crush it.

I believe it if you say so:laugh:

Is Gray Nervous, Scared or have a bad habit?
judygram replied to BaxtersMom's topic in The GREY Lounge
Erica, you have only had Baxter for a little over 3 weeks and he is 12 years old so his old habits might be starting to show up. You two are still in the honeymoon phase yet as 3 weeks is nothing in a greys lifespan. I would imagine you are going to start seeing more things about him as time goes on, after all he has lived 12 years somewhere else and developed behaviors and habits. -
New pictures of Loki - 8 weeks old ... and clean!
judygram replied to Broomer's topic in Photography & Video Room
Loki is a real sweetheart and an adorable baby, thanks Bryan for sharing them with us. -
Sounds like a couple of good names and I like Talula the best of both.

Hello Betsy and welcome to the family, so glad you have decided to join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and this new grey you plan to get. www.avianbiotech.com is one site you can go to and plug in your state and area and do a search for grey breeders but some of the other members will have some names for you too as we have quite a few from Florida. Do you have any other birds or parrots right now or is this grey going to be your first parrot? Please read thru the many threads for lots of useful information and do not hesitate to ask questions you may have and we will do our best to find you some answers and help you in any way we can.

Your daughter can still have a relationship with Tbird but it won't be like the one with you. Greys decide to they want as favorite and there is not much you can do about it but live with it. Letting her give Tbird the treats will help but her hesitation does not help her at all but then you already know that.

Thanks for sharing the little bugger with us.

Mary dates are ok to feed to your grey, there were some in the last bag of dried fruit mix that I bought for Josey but she does not care for them but maybe Echo will;)

Hello Elozano and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Yayo. It is nice to see our greys outside but they do need to be on some type of harness or in a cage even with their wings clipped, birds have flown away even when clipped, all they need is a little breeze. Yayo looks like a healthy good looking grey, thanks for sharing some pics of him with us. Have you had Yayo all these 4 years and you refer to him as he, has he been DNA tested? Do you have any other birds or pets? Just a few questions to get to know you a little better. Please read thru the many threads for lots of useful information and do not hesitate to ask any and all questions you may have and we will do our best to find you some answers and help you in any way we can.

Toni I see your two new birds, one of them is plucking isn't it but they are pretty and a nice addition to your flock, thanks for sharing them with us. I am no good with names and since they are your birds you should pick the names.
