  1. I would rate Josey as quiet compared to Sunny, my sun conure as she can be quite loud but she goes thru times during the day and evening when she is more vocal than at other times.
  2. Kip is a good looking grey Mark, she looks in fine form and your photos are so clear and sharp, thanks for sharing them with us.
  3. I don't live in Canada but I buy most of my stuff online mainly because we don't have any bird specific stores here either. I hear about them from some of the other members and wish I had some to go to close by to actually see stuff before I buy but I do the next best thing.
  4. Well you can give them both, I use the red palm oil in some oatmeal and baby food and give it to Josey every day and some of the members give pine nuts to their greys for treats but Josey does not care for them. Tracy, aka LovemyGreys, can give you the benefits of feeding them to our greys for at the moment I am having a brain freeze:blush:
  5. Since he just came to your home he is unsettled at the moment and it will take some time for him to settle in and feel comfortable so give him some space but open his cage door and see if he will come out and explore. Then you can try getting him to step up on your hand but only cuddle him if he will allow it for some do not and if you try to force it the bond with you will take longer to form. Greys are very cautious creatures, very wary of new people, places and things so keep this in mind when you work with him, take it slow and easy, sudden movements will frighten him.
  6. I am afraid the only thing to do is ignore it because you cannot tape over his beak:woohoo:  even though we would like to sometimes.

  8. I don't have any answers for you Heather but I just want to comment on something. Maybe this is just another phase she is going thru like the biting one you mentioned, but she may just feel insecure for some reason and she wants to be near you. Has anything changed in her environment lately? I think Tracy or some of the other members who have had greys for a long period of time may have more info for you as to what may be going on with her but I am stumped. Thats another great picture of Harrison, she is a beauty, thanks for sharing it with us.
  9. Hello Raiderbabe and welcome to the family, so glad you decided to join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and this new grey. Congrats on getting your first bird, you are diving right in with getting a grey first off but if you do a lot of reading and research you should be able to handle it. Please read thru the many threads for lots of useful information and do not hesitate to ask any and all questions you may have and we will do our best to find you some answers and help you in any way we can. When you get some pictures of this grey if you would share some with us as we would love to see it.

  11. Well thank you Kath for finding us and we try to make everyone feel welcome and its great when someone appreciates that.
  12. We look forward to seeing those pics of Ziggy:) B)
  13. You were given the correct information about the feather being out of place, it happens and they usually take care of it so don't sweat it. Since you are new to birds I would stick to just one at the moment until you have had more experience then you can give some thought to maybe another grey or another parrot entirely.
  14. I would be cautious about getting too close to this pigeon with Harry, you don't know what kind of bugs or disease this bird could be carrying, better to be safe than sorry. But I don't see the harm in feeding it outside and when you make contact with it be sure to wash your hands real good before you go back to touching Harry. Otherwise enjoy your new outside friend and maybe get a pic to share with us of him.
  15. Did you put them into a photo hosting site such as photobucket for if you did you can resize them there, but thanks for sharing some pics of Harry, he is a good looking Cag.
  16. """He's a terribly messy eater.""" They are all messy eaters but one point I would make to you is not to react to his messes, if you make a big deal out of it he will do it all the more for the reaction he gets from it. He probably is consuming some of it but yes birds do waste a lot of food.
  17. Zooman that looks pretty good, maybe with a little more time Zuri will come to accept it and enjoy it, just be patient.
  18. Denisp, if you would tell us a little more about yourself and this grey we might be able to help you but it sounds to me like hormones are raging.
  19. I'm sticking with female and Dan, you're on;) B)
  20. Ian, I have a grey book, "African Grey Parrots" by Nikki Moustaki that has red maple listed as a toxic plant so I wouldn't use that if I were you. On another note, glad to have you back and don't stay away so long.
  21. Some greys are closet talkers meaning they won't talk around any people, but Josey isn't, she talks right to me sometimes but Congo will talk but on her terms, notice I said her:lol: B)
  22. Night frights must be very frightening for both the grey and the owner, thankfully Josey has never had one and I hope she never does for it would unnerve me as much as it would her:ohmy: .
  23. I'm too lazy to make something like that, I just wear old T-shirts and when they get pooped on I just put on another one, makes for lots of wash but I don't mind.
  24. If she is 3 years old now she is doing just fine like she is, I wouldn't worry about correcting her now, she does not know she is any different from any other grey. How shallow they must be to not want her because she wasn't perfect, but their loss and your gain as Tracy put it.
  25. You can also use a regular emory board that we women use on our nails but the best thing is to get several cement perches for their cage and put them in spots they will use and problem solved. They do need a certain amount of point on the end for grip but not enough to pierce flesh.
