  2. Sameera I like the idea of only half covering the cage and when you get up early to get her out and offer a snack and then put her back, she will get used to the routine as they can adapt.
  3. Harry is one lucky grey to have your company for the week Matt and he has repayed you with his love. Not all greys will talk in front of their flock, my Josey will but be patient and maybe he will too eventually. Who better to understand how you feel but a bunch of bird people like us, we are a superior breed.
  4. Wing clipping can be a hot topic here but it is an individual decision, some are firmly against it and some are for it but you go with whatever feels right for you and your bird.
  5. I don't know about Sameera but a lot of us would recommend you allow the flight feathers to grow out and let the bird fly about the house, as long as you are aware of open doors and windows.
  6. Aww more baby pics of Loki, how adorable he is!!! Poop grunts:blink:   I only have one complaint, the breeder should do a better job of keeping the babies cleaner, Loki has a lot of stuff on him especially around the vent area, I would keep on the breeder about this, not very sanitary for him.
  7. Now my grey loves any kind of pasta, rice or beans but keep offering them as sometimes it just takes a while for them to try them. Fix them different ways and see if that entices him to try them. I feed the Harrison's High Potency pellets but most of the brand name pellets would suffice as long as they are a well balanced blend. I think he is just trying out his wings and continue to allow him some flight time to allow him to learn how to land, it is sort of something they have to learn how to by doing so. But take it slowly, Brutus has only been with you for 3 days and he is still settling in to his new home, he will be more receptive to new foods after an initial settling in period.
  8. Hello Milks and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and this new grey. In my opinion, 450 miles is not that big a deal if it means the right breeder and transporting it shouldn't be a problem as my grey travels well in a small cage. I am not familiar with the prices in the UK as I am in the US but some of the other members from the UK will have more information about that. Please read thru the many threads for lots of useful information and do ask any and all questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. Don't be silly, you can dump all you want on us, we don't mind as we are all bird people and only people like us understand how we feel. Happy huntingB)
  9. Lyn, I am sorry to hear of your health problems and yes it does seem to pour when it rains but I hope you get thru this just fine, I will keep you in my thoughts. Glad to hear you have made an appointment with the vet to rule out any physical reason for the chewing but in any case keep us posted as we care.
  10. If you act real enthuastic about it he will not be able to contain himself for you see what he does when he sees you eating something, he wants it too and the toys and foraging items will be the same way, try it;)
  11. That storm must have really unnerved him but a good nights rest will fix him right up and he is already showing signs of being his normal self. It is amazing how quickly they grow on us and become a part of our lives and we cannot imagine how we got along without them.
  12. siobha9 wrote: Aww come on Siobhan, they deserve the best parts off your plate:whistle:
  13. I think we all get the urge whenever we see another baby grey, they are so adorable we want them all.
  14. Like the others said you may have to show him how to play and interact with the toys but several times should be enough to entice him to investigate. I know Josey goes straight to anything I put in for her to forage into, her curiosity gets the better of her:laugh:
  15. Different greys like different things but do check the baby section of stores for toy ideas, a lot of them are suitable for greys and safe, much less expensive than made for bird toys.
  16. If he didn't get a whole lot of sleep due to the storm then no wonder he is grumpy and of course he takes out his frustration on you but heres hoping tonight he gets adequate rest and tomorrow he is his ole sweet self.

  18. """My parents are also nuts about my birds. Whenever they phone me they spend more time talking to Liath than they do to me. Most people just ignore her chattering in the background, but my dad will ask me to put her on speaker""" Now that is what I like to hear Siobhan!!! My daughter usually comes in and goes right to Sunny's cage and gets her out if she isn't already. She likes her a lot but won't really admit it.
  19. I cover my grey and my sun conure at night, always have, I think they prefer it that way and I never hear a peep out of either one of them. I use a black sheet I bought at Walmart, the flat one and it works just fine, no need for the fancy ones that cost a bundle. When you are gone during the day and your grey feels like taking a nap, he or she will do just that. Ask all the questions you want, how else are you going to learn the answers unless you ask.
  20. Hello BlueCounty and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and your new grey. You have certainly came to the right place to find good information on all aspects of caring for greys and we have a lot of knowledgeable members who can guide you in the right direction. Congrats on your new grey and will this be your first one and do you have any other parrots or birds? Feel free to ask any and all questions as we love to help each other with our grey problems and we will help you in any way we can. When you get the chance to get some pictures of this new grey please share some with us so we can ooh and aah over it.
  21. Well its very becoming to him and I have heard of the blue color but not as much as you hear about the red factor, very unusual but lovely.
  22. Just give him some time and he will return to his normal loving self, he is all out of sorts because of the storm, once he settles down again all will be well.
  23. Lucky for you Berna and yes Elmo was probably a little unnerved by the goings on outside but she is your little hero keeping you company while things were going on. Glad to hear you have power, you don't really think about it until you lose it.
  24. Hello to you too Pat:P B)
  25. What a beautiful baby grey, he almost looks blue from the picture, might have something to do with the lighting when you took the shot, thanks for sharing him with us.
