  1. It is so sad. But maybe you could help in other ways. Extra cages or toys would probably be welcome. Any food you could spare? Maybe just your time to help calm the frightened birds. It is so sad when this happens to any animal!
  2. As with everyone else I have more than one 'dream' bird. Although my Grey was one of those at one time. I also want a Hyacinth and a Rose-breasted. I have held both and just fell in love. But, I would not, at my age, take on another bird. It wouldn't be fair to them or my daughter and granddaughter. My daughter told me that I could not have a bigger bird - Peanut's poop was big enough!! LOL
  3. Please read and take to heart what has been said here. I also had a problem with one family member about the birds transmitting disease. I was lucky and he was appeased by making sure the child always wash his hands after being near the bird.
  4. Now that is a close-up!! Looks like something out of the dinosaur age!
  5. Nice picture! She is surely telling someone off! LOL
  6. Welcome pinklips. Please let us know a bit about yourself.
  7. Nice pictures - handsome feller. Is he out of the cage a lot? I ask because I see no toys/foraging items in the cage. Or maybe just moved to allow a better picture.
  8. Beautiful. Looking dapper in the blue vest!!
  9. Sorry. I was a dog person, never had cats. Some people have good luck with the bird and cat commination, even to having them out together. I think you should take the time to get to know how they react to each other before actually letting them out together. Use common sense and watch with an eagle's eye! LOL
  10. Hello and welcome. How old is Budu? Does his name translate to English?
  11. Yes, I think it is more important to give fresh veggies and fruit with the avicakes and nutriberries as treats. I have a supply of pellets available to my birds at all times. My TAG eats very little of them, my Sun Conure eats them all the time, the Tiel also eats very little. They are getting seeds in the cakes/berries but I also give a tablespoon or so of a seed mix a couple of times a week.
  12. Welcome to Greycie and Angie!! Looking forward to hearing more about Greycie she sounds wonderful.
  13. Welcome. Romeo will be in a state of shock when he arrives- at least I assume he is not a seasoned traveler. So give him what he wants when you get him home. Most likely this will be some alone time, but not every bird responds the same. He may want you with him after being alone on the plane. As others have said - their time is not ours. It may seem to you that at two months he should be adjusted - but that is more like two days to some Greys. So take it easy and enjoy him.
  14. Wonderful!! You are right, if he tastes the food it is a huge step.
  15. Welcome. Great pictures. Looking forward to hearing more about you two.
  16. Welcome CAG! Looking forward to seeing and hearing all about your new baby.
  17. YEAH! Is he still mad at you or did he get over it as soon as he was back in his own cage? Mine would always be fine once they were out of the carrier and back home.
  18. Glad to hear the improvements. You have your hands full now!! LOL
  19. Congrats to both of you. Joey is blossoming under your care.
  20. I too am sorry Candi. I have had to towel a bird to get them into a carrier. But they seemed no worse for the wear. I hope with help you will be able to get Echo into the carrier tomorrow. Hopefully when you return home with him he will be able to start thinking that he can go someplace and still come home where he is happy.
  21. Candi, you and Echo are doing so well!! I see only the greatest life in front of the two of you. Oh there will be set backs, but they will be short lived, I am sure. It is so wonderful to hear all about him as he becomes the part of the family he is meant to be.!!
  22. I would keep trying to mist, at least until he is comfortable enough to shower. You might try different temperatures of the water. I have found that my Grey loves it on the warm side - real warm, just south of hot!! Not all birds like the same temperature. It is funny when I start to mist Peanut he HAS to have a drink first. He even likes his drinking water warm! This really surprised me, but at long as the water isn't hot I think it is better to mist with warm water than none at all. My Sun Conure would rather the water be cool, my Tiel doesn't like any but is better with it on the warm side too. I have never used the Aloe either, but have heard from many that it really helps.
