  1. Welcome. You make it sounds as if you knew this Grey three years ago, did you? I also have a Sun, also a Tiel along with my Grey. I am one of the lucky ones in that my Grey and Sun can be out of cages at the same time. Do your two Conures get along? Looking forward to hearing more about your flock. Pictures are always welcomed.
  2. Well, oatmeal and sweet potato seem to be the main likes. Miss Gilbert's palette must be maturing.LOL
  3. Welcome. That cage should work IF the perch is placed so the baby can stand on it without having to bend. Take small slices of apple to offer the baby. This not only gives him something to chew on, it also gives him some moisture. A couple small toys would be great. Two hours isn't all that long, so I think he will make it with less stress than you! LOL I also would not recommend holding him all the way home. Although, I will admit to doing that very thing before I realized how dangerous it could be.
  4. Welcome My suggestion would be to make a play station for them away from either cage. This could be something as simple as a few foot toys and treats on a table top to an actual playarea made for parrots. Have both you and your husband there and take them both, at the same time, to the play area. If they behave there you will know it was cage problems before. If they start to 'fight' there, then I would suggest separate out of cage time for them - at least for a while. Thank you so much for taking in an older pair of Greys.
  5. I don't think you are crazy for treating her like a human. After all, she most likely thinks she is human and the brain is mostly responsible for our health. I am so glad she is responding!! You are a great nurse!

    Warm Food

We just had sweet potato for dinner and since it has been awhile since we have had it, Peanut went nuts. It got me to wondering what everyone's favorite warm foods are? OK, your birds favorite warm foods - not yours! LOL
  7. I am going to try that. Wonder if cauliflower instead of broccoli would be OK.
  8. How cute. Please, next time read her mind a little faster! LOL
  9. Beat of luck with the foster. I don't know much about a Meyers either, so can be of no help, sorry.
  10. Best news! Love her while you can. Give her a gentle hug from me. I miss my baby so much.
  11. Does making a sound like my burp and then laughing count?? Oh wait, that is my Sun. sorry. LOL Peanut will laugh at odd times, but never makes a joke so to speak. At least not one I understand.
  12. Welcome. Boy, you don't let the grass grow under your feet, do you?? LOL I think you will be much happier if you can find a good breeder within driving distance from you. That way you can visit the baby as it is weaned and get to know it and it you before it comes home. Get a cage as large as possible. The bird should be able to stretch its wings inside the cage. Toys and foraging items enough to play with, but not so many as to block the birds movement. Have you done research into other parrots? If so, why did you decide on a Grey? Are you going for a TAG or CAG? Or maybe it doesn't matter to you. Enjoy your time researching!
  13. She looks so happy and content. Can I play Mom for a minute? I am old enough to be your Mom LOL. I would take my Tiel in the car like that years ago. And we both loved it. She would walk all over the car and the looks we got from passing cars were priceless. Then one day we had a fender bender. She went flying. Luckily, none of the windows broke - it was not that bad of an accident. But, it did get me to worry about her being loose in the car. Now, my birds are in the car only in a cage or with a leash on. OK off my soap box!
  14. Prayers coming for Zoey and you. This time is special. You will know in your heart when the time is right. (((hugs)))
  15. Welcome. Glad you joined us. It will take a long time - to you, to Kelsey it will seem very short. Take it as easy as possible. You may even have days that it seems like everything is going in reverse. Hang in there - Kelsey needs you to. Thank you so much for putting in the effort and making a great forever home for her.
  16. I use little pieces of almond. Both my Sun and Grey love them.
  17. Mine hadn't been allowed to fly either. It will come - it will take extra time - but, it will come. You are doing great.
  18. That was just a great story. I agree that dogs don't have the depth perception, but they also use their sense of smell first and foremost and your daughter's scent was not there - therefore, she wasn't there!
  19. She will connect it!! I am beginning to think that some greys just have a day or two a month when they are going to bite! Mine did it again last week. After his time out - which once last the rest of the day (he was in his regular cage), he is just as loving as ever. Just like our kids they each have their own personality and I think, some of them are just going to bite once in a while! LOL
  20. Welcome JoJo. Your intro was a bit sketchy. Please a few more details LOL. Looking forward to getting to know you and your Grey(s).
  21. Both my Grey, Peanut, and my Sun, Skittles will be extra giving of their kisses when I hurt. Skits will run from one shoulder to the other kissing each cheek. Peanut has come over and just pressed his beak onto my nose (that is our 'kiss') and will keep it there until I calm down. He did this the first time when I was reading a story about how someone had taken a mother Grey from her babies in the wild. I was softly crying and he came over to help.
  22. As above, but do it at least twice. Also, as hot a hot water as possible. Set in the sun for a few days. I have had a couple of cages I cleaned like that.
