  1. Great post. Only problem is not enough preGrey people will read it. Something like this should be posted in pet stores and at breeders - wait, that would affect sales - a no go to that!
  2. Welcome. So sorry about Missy. A Galah is my dream bird. Give Missy an air kiss from me. Tell us more about Izzy. We love stories and pictures.
  3. Awww how sweet! He knows Mommy needs to hear these things once in a while.
  4. It sure sounds like you are a very good Mom! You have gotten that baby through two rough weeks. As said, it happens now and then that a chick will need to be raised without the parents. You keep up the playing-as the chick develops-and I think you will have one happy and healthy chick. Since you have had other parrots you most likely know how to play with them and that will come in handy. Just lower the play to a newborn's level. As time passes, please let us know how you and your little one are doing and ask any specific questions you may have. We LOVE pictures! LOL Don't worry about your English - you do much better than I could in another language!!
  5. You might try an almond, that is my birds go to item if I want something from them. I trained them to go back into their cages with pieces of almonds.
  6. AWW never know what they will like. Mine never would push the buttons on the one I tried.
  7. I agree, she is still a baby. If you live 50 - 70 years you are a baby for at least 3. I fed my 'baby' an evening meal of warm foods well into his 2nd year. They still enjoy one on cold winter nights now at age 10 and 8. Slightly cooked and warm veggies are fine and she may enjoy them that way the rest of her life.
  8. What we don't do because it is good for, or what the parrot likes!! LOL Oh well, I am sure you didn't want any extra money hanging around!
  9. Welcome!! I agree, patience is your new favorite word. A couple of weeks to us seems like a long time -to a Grey that would seem like a couple of hours. They (or I should say, some) take a long time to learn to trust another person. Shadow's story doesn't seem as bad as some, but you still have a bird who doesn't interact well, simply because she hasn't been given the chance. Take your time, talk to her as much as possible. Always keep an even voice, even when you get bit. And she most likely will bite. Put her back in her cage as you tell her how wrong biting is. Hopefully you won't get any real bad ones. LOL I think you will do fine. Simple foraging toys can be treats or toys in a brown sandwich bag. If she isn't use to having them the bags are a good way to start. Make sure she sees what you are doing and don't close them to tightly - she will pick up the idea pretty fast. When she gets the idea you might want to buy a couple to push her ability.
  10. Greywings, I searched J.C. Donaho on Facebook. It came up author - fine- but when the page opened there was nothing to see and no way to ask for a friend notification. I liked the page but that got me nothing. I also would love to get a book for my granddaughter because boys aren't the only ones who like bugs! LOL I even gave my granddaughter a BUG birthday party many years ago.
  11. The wait will be well worth it! Looking forward to pictures and stories.
  12. Lucky you!! I got to play with one for a couple of hours and loved every minute of it. They are solid and heavier than they look. I think the beak looks just fine. They are usually so gentle with that big beak.
  13. Since I kill every plant ever brought into my house (my parents (both farmers) disowned me over it! LOL) I don't have that worry. Praying that Nilah is still good.
  14. So glad that Alex is settling in and enjoying his bath. Mine do the same thing - and no they don't fit well in the water dish so don't get a good bath, but it is better than nothing LOL. Way to Go Alex!
  15. AS one door closes another opens. Megan feels your loss. As you go to bed she has come to enjoy your moments together. It was a sweet, sweet story.
  16. I am glad that we could be, at least a little, comfort for you.
  17. I remember when I had a dog, that I would also just open the door a little - well it was a big dog so I think I was fooling myself ( a black lab/dalmation mix). One day I tripped as I reached for the door - off my shoulder and out the door Peanut went! We lost him for 6 of the most terrible hours in my life. When my daughter heard him calling from across the street. Luckily I live out of the city where it is quiet most of the time!! So, we got him home. For the next 5 years he would not go anywhere near the door - even when it was closed! I have never been so thankful that my daughter has such great hearing! LOL
  18. Handsome man!! Looking forward to stories about them both.
  19. LOL I know what you mean. I have a shower curtain hung between my living room and kitchen because I couldn't keep my Sun out of the kitchen. I couldn't train him to stay with me in the living room so he trained me to find another way to stop him! My Grey has a habit of opening the doors to their cages (from the outside) and sometimes when I put them to bed and step away I will hear my Sun's wings flapping as he comes to me. Oops forgot to check the other doors! LOL Luckily my TAG hasn't learned to open the doors from the inside - YET! I am so lucky in that I have trained them both to return to their cages on command. If I had to chase two free flying birds around the house to put them in the cages - well - I may not have them too long!
  20. Learn something new every day!! LOL
  21. That is wonderful!! What a happy little flock you will have. Thank you for taking in rehomes!!
  22. Joining the free flying club is a wonderful move. I so love the sound of wings as they take off to find me. The landings can still be a questionable thing for my TAG. He likes my head the best. My Sun likes the shoulder. So glad HRH has taken to flying so well.
  23. Yes, go to the nearest vet as long as you feel confident in their ability.
  24. The bird is 2 - she said in her intro. But, she didn't mention how long she has had him. It could be a slight skin irritant started it and the bird keeps it up out of habit. I agree, I would ask the vet to check his glands.
  25. Welcome to both Alexa and Levi. How long have you been owned by Levi?
