  1. Yep most of them love to shred and pull. An old adding machine tape worked for us.
  2. I am so sorry for your loss. Any death leaves a big hole in our hearts. The birds are aware of your sadness and will give you the sympathy you need. ((HUGS))
  3. What a wonderful burrito!! Cutest I have ever seen.
  4. I am so sorry Ray. But so glad she got to pass while in your loving arms. I know I always feel better when babies have passed with me there. The hole they leave in our hearts is large.
  5. Welcome! Fifi loves the camera! She is gorgeous. How old is she? Oh, by the way, my name Brat Birds wasn't earned by me!! LOL
  6. Try the dish on the bottom of the cage. If he won't go near it, try putting some large green leaves in it. If he has a favorite green use that. Sometimes they will start playing with the leaves and end up taking a bath.
  7. We seem to be hijacking this thread, but, yeah no fun in IBS or Hashimoto either. Sjogrens is the moisture producing glands attacking themselves so dryness is a major problem. Dry eyes and mouth are what usually sends a person to get a diagnosis. Of course, I had to be different and went with swollen glands in the neck that my doctor said looked like mumps, except she had never seen mumps! LOL The dryness can progress to the internal organs and then the real trouble begins.
  8. That sounds normal to me. What auto-immune do you have? Sjogrens here.
  9. Yeah, that was one of the reports I read too. I was hoping against hope that someone would know that weeping cherry is different from cherry. Oh well, not worth the chance, but I really would have loved some new branches for them.
  10. I know of someone who is cutting down his weeping cherry tree. I would like to use some of the branches for Peanut and Skitttles. But, I see on some lists that Cherry tree should not be used for parrots. Does anyone know if Weeping Cherry is safe?? It has not been sprayed in over twenty years.
  11. Welcome to the wonderful world of TAGs! We all love our babies to the hilt, and will love yours too! LOL TAGs are a bit more even tempered than CAGs but it does vary bird to bird. They are also a bit smaller than CAGs. Mine is a joy 99% if the time. Looking forward to hearing all about Gabby's home coming.
  12. Happy Hatchday Josey!! Glad to hear you're asking for what you want.
  13. Welcome. Sit next to the cage and talk softly to her, even read to her. Feed her special treats from your fingers. It will take time - to you it may seem a long time - but she will calm down and come around. Foraging toys are great when you're not home. You can start with some you make yourself. Take a treat she likes and wrap it in some tissue or paper towel and put it somewhere in the cage. You may not want to wrap it too much the first couple of times if she isn't use to looking for her treats.
  14. Wonderful that Alex got a clean bill of health. Was this an Avian Vet? The one thing that I would NEVER do is put tape in the cage for him to chew on. I can't help but think that the glue would be very harmful for his systems. The foraging is great. I use paper towel and some plain brown paper for foraging toys for my babies, but always folded never taped. Keeping him in the cage at all times doesn't sound right to me, but I will wait for others to chime in on that one. I always thought taking him to a small room with a perch (even the back of a chair) was the way to teach the step-up command if the bird was reluctant.

Don't you love it! Just like our human kids - they can't agree on anything. Except maybe how to worry us! LOL
  16. OK I think I made a big mistake. The brand I finally ordered - when I was too tired to think maybe, is not RED palm oil. It is just Palm Oil. It says it is made in Africa with no chemicals. Should I use it?
  17. I was going to mention that you should take home water with you. I did when I took my babies on a family visit. But, since no one else mentioned it, I am betting I was an over anxious mommy when I did it. Has no one had a bird have a tummy upset because of different water?
  18. Great idea to get in touch with his first owner - finding out about his likes, dislikes is very helpful. When are you going to the vet? Please let us know what the vet says.
  19. AWWW such a wonderful memory you have.
  20. Welcome Alex and John. You might try coaxing him into the carrier with some treat he loves. But, this doesn't work too often and you will most likely end up toweling him to get him in. You might try playing with the towel with him/or next to him to get him use to see it and make him less afraid of it. I have to towel mine every once in a while. He gets mad, but gets over it just as fast. They are smart enough to know you didn't hurt him so they don't hold a grudge - most times LOL. Please let us know how the vet visit goes.
  21. I have ordered some. I will be joining the red palm oil club! LOL
  22. WOW. 38 years. If you had to have it done now, knowing what you know, would you still have it done. Imagine how much different it would be now. They make so many improvements so fast in medicine. Glad you are doing so well.
  23. I just went online to order some. Have any of you ever tried it from Juka? It says it is 100% pure, organic, extra Virgin from Africa. It is a bit cheaper and I wondered if anyone ever heard of this company.
  24. Welcome Sharon and Kita. Thank you for taking in an older parrot. It does sound like the lady was doing great with Kita. That sounds like a very good base diet. I don't know what is in the Gourmet Seed mix, just be careful of peanuts - they have been know to have a fungus that will make a parrot very ill. I do know a lot of seed mixes do include peanuts either in the shell or shelled. I would add a few nuts - pine nuts, almonds -my mind just went blank. Others will be in with more suggestions. The amount of feathers sounds great. Sometimes there will be a handful on the bottom of the cage if he is having a heavy molt. We do like pictures.
  25. Welcome. She is a doll. From her expression I am thinking she doesn't especially like the camera. LOL Most don't. Glad you found this forum. Any question you have, someone or more will try their best to get you a great answer.
